... have Zevan suddenly show up? There wasn't a cutscene or anything, he just appeared out of nowhere during the fight with Meredith and starting fighting her. I couldn't talk to him at all since the game was over afterwords, but I'm really curious why he appeared.
During the final battle, did anyone else...

Yes, he and some of the other folks you've helped throughout the game can show up and help you out.
Nate Howe shows up if you helped him, too.
Edit: I thought it was cheesy and stupid.
Howe's got Grey Warden business to get to (which by all accounts seems to be some serious business) and Zev's surely got more interesting places to be.

I enjoyed it just because it's nice to see a familiar face. It would have been worse had they made some sort of heroic entrance.

On Nate, he's not going to leave immediately, and you saw a Templar jumping 20 feet in the air and possessing statues trying to kill everyone, would you stand by?

Honestly my first playthrough I didn't even notice this. I think thats sad...This could have been done better. At least give them a line or two! But oh well.

Fair enough, and I suppose he does have the skills to help, and I have to imagine the Chantry blowing up and Meredith hopping around like a grasshopper on meth tends to attract attention.
