So I was wondering what are some of the best ways to make money, with out using cheats and/or exploits?  I'd like to pad my wallet for my character so I can get some better weapons and some potions.

Do every quest you can find. Pick up and sell every piece of loot you find and don't equip. Profit. There really is no way to "farm" gold.

Indeed. That sums it up nicely. I had little to no problem gearing myself even with evidently overpriced items (at Bonny Lem's and Black Emporium, for example). Money is plentiful in DA2 in relation to the market prices. I guess it's a bit harder to gear a full party optimally (I play solo), but you don't really need to invest as much into companions as you invest into yourself, so...

Yea, I was trying to find ways of making money, and pretty much came up with nothing. By the time I had liquid assets to buy the fancy armor in the Emporium, I didn't need too. Potions don't sell for any worth while amount, but if you want to pad your potion numbers, drop all the pots you have into storage between missions or killing things. The game speeds up potion drops, up to a certain amount based on difficulty.

Also, don't be a pack-rat like me =(

Actually you can farm the gangs. Once you eradicate a gang and destroy their hideout a new gang will take their place. You can then farm that gang. I'm not a grinder but I saw the possibility existed to grind sovreigns if you need them.

On a side note gangs that you kill in Act 3 may drop Qunari swords that you can then sell back to the Qunari in Hightown (day).

once you wipe out the hideout, they don't respawn. And they don't respawn once you've gotten the quest to destroy the hideout. Per act, there is 1 gang per area, there aren't replacements.

[edit]

And no, the Qunari swords are specifically placed, and a maximum of 10.  Thats how many the quest requires before he leaves.  If you don't ask for payment however, and return all 10, you get the Arishok's sword.  Which is quite badass in the final stages of the game.

That pretty much sums it up.

You can increase the gold you get from enemies by creating and using multiple Runes of Prosperity (recipe purchased at The Black Emporium during Act I) for a bit extra edge. Early testing demonstrated they stack.

I'm not sure if the "enemies drop better equipment" stacks or not, but it can get your some extra cash as well.

Use the console and just give yourself money.

runscript addmoney 1000000 = 100 gold

I guess it uses the amount of copper instead of gold hence all the zeros.

Runes of Fortune, no? And yes, the property stacks.

After a quest is done use all four to talk to the quest giver for a reward. Use the hold to position all four around the NPC. Pause make all four talk to the NPC so it does it at the same time. You can get 3-4 times the amount. It does not work for all, but most. Even works for some cut scenes.

I got 32 gold from the witch of the wilds. This even works with crafting materials. Save before doing this to get your best results.

With cut scenes the people disappear but the dialogue still continues. I have not seen this cause any problems yet.

If you pay attention to Dialogue starters you can send each one to that area with pause/ hold and lining them up so they get there at once. Then move freely. It seems to work with dialogues concerning companion friend/rivalry given your choices you want.

Down side if you do this for everything make sure it not one where you give all your money away.

You may want to be mindful of crafting materials. Try not to go beyond the number intended to find. I do not know if there is a set number that you can collect. I may have over done it with the elf roots, but if you do not use them no worries.

Just position them correctly. Use hold to move them, pause then have each one talk to the NPC. Use move freely, then un pause. Try it with a side quest and with a crafting material. Just be mindful of how much you collect. This works with most quests, some dialogues.
I used it at the begging with Aveline at the begging up her friend ship forty using her to mediate, Carver went up twice as much, after talking to the merchants looking for Anders. You have to watch where the dialogue starts and line them up. It worked for Flemeth lining them up next to the altar. Few other places. I cannot remember them all, but it does work without having to do much but with timing. It does not work with all quests and dialogues. Before Act 1 if you talk to your uncle 4 times you get more items to sell. I have been slow at playing and I am not done playing I started over to see how much I can collect.
I have completed 10 side quests Act one, few main plots and one secondary, plus portion of the premium content. I have little over 79 gold and have only bought a few armor pieces for Aveline and Varrick, few potions and made a few runes. I started trying this half way through Act 2 first time playing through.
