It's rather sad to think that Aveline's romance is the best in the game, but IMO, she's the lucky one.

I did prefer Fenris' romance to Anders but my point is all the broodiness....I got so tired of moody men. And I feel for the guys as well...

Yea I see what you mean. I wish Varric was romanceable. I find it inexpicable that he wasn't.

I'd feel for myself as well, except Morrigan raised the standard so high for me and I don't really mind

Why couldn't Varric and Aveline have been romancable options? Varric is level-headed, loyal, and just a little bad but not too bad. Aveline is level-headed loyal, and good but not too good. My lady Hawke would have chosen Varric in a heartbeat were not Bianca standing in the way. Damn you Bianca!

Look at it this way, then:

Bianca is her own Yandere.

Aveline, Merrill and Isabella all together. Plus an option to kill Fenris, not just tell him to leave but really Kill him in some very painfull way. If you're a mage and bring him to the fade you'll understand why, plus I never liked that two face knife ears... That aHole MFSOB...

Varric is the perfect example of "Benefits of a Friend" over the Friend with benefits ;P

Carmen_Willow, i agree with you. i think bioware went too far with all that constant angst. They could make it work if they add some quest to solve all these personal problems. Help Anders get rid out of Justice. Why not? We can save Conor in DAO, why can't we repeat the trick? A bit of happiness, or sense, not going to ruin all that "dark fantasy world on the break of war" setting. All right, all right, world is a mess, everyone is crazy, we got it. i got it somewhere in the middle of Act 2, can i have a cookie now?
I'm not saying that romances are bad, it's more or less subjective, i guess. I just know that i'm not going to romance anyone. I tried and i didn't like it. Strictly professional now. May be sort of alliance with Sebastian, who seems to be one of the few reasonable characters.
If i want that much angst-drama-horror-hopeless-not-happy-endy stuff i go play Silent Hill. Or Darkness Within. Or something like that.

Regular guys are for real life, Bioware games are for messed up ones filled with juicy delicious drama. :)

For real. My favorite Bioware romances are dudes I would not give the time of day in real life.

OK, I'd probably give Alistair the time.

Varric would have been perfect for my rogue Hawke, just as Garrus was perfect for the kind of Shepard I played. After giving Varric that signet ring gift snarky Hawke says something along the lines of "what would I do without my favourite dwarf? I would cry myself to sleep every night" I was thinking "I'm not actually joking ;3;". At least you can have the jokes if nothing else.

Hmm, carefree guy is hottest then? The kind who keeps his emotions inside of him and shows disciplined outside?

He doesn't go for humans :) He says so in a dialogue.

But all this talk requires a song...

*ahem*

Where have all the good men gone
And where are all the gods?
Where's the streetwise Hercules
To fight the rising odds...? ;)

Sure, Anders and Fenris are not boyfriend material. But you don't HAVE to romance anyone, do you? Why can't Lady Hawke stay single like Queen Elizabeth I? In Mass Effect 2 I didn't romance anyone, because well, none of them is remotely as good as Liara. Then LotSB came out and I was like "Okay, so I'll play some romance after all."

Seriously, what's the big deal? If you want a fantasy boyfriend molded to your every preference then play a dating sim or something. Quit whining.

I believe that after paying 50€ for a game you're not satisfied with you have a perfectly good reason to whine.
Romance options are rather terrible you must admit.

Isabella is so incredibly selfish that I was more tempted to kill her than Anders.
Merril is adorable and the only decent love interest but unfortunately she looks like one of those things from avatar movie.
Fenris is so angsty moody broody as said before by certain people in here.
Anders is emo terrorist CRAWLING IN MY SKIN! THIS JUSTICE IT WON'T HEAL!

I consider Sebastian a 'regular guy' if Alistiar qualifies.

I didn't care much for the companion roster this go, compared to Origins. Bethany actually ended up being one of my favorites, then she gets plucked away for the majority of the game. That pissed me off to no end. Invested far too much into that character to have her taken away.

Varric surprised me with how awesome of a character he was. I expected something... less awesome, but he turned out to be my favorite of the bunch.

Merrill made me chuckle a bit, but I found her background and motivations lacking.

Aveline was well-written if not incredibly interesting. I feel like a lot of potential was wasted by excluding her from the Love Interest possibilities.

Fenris annoyed me. Every time I caught a glimpse of something interesting under the surface he'd snap back into moping about mages and Danarius. Mages can't be trusted, they're too likely to abuse their powers and bring down destruction on th... hold on a minute, let me snap into a fit of uncontrollable rage and stick my hand in this guy's chest real quick... where was I? Oh yes, mages have too much power at their hands!

Anders. I hated Anders. There was not one facet of anything involving him in this game that I enjoyed. This is particularly annoying, because I actually liked him in Awakening. Maybe I just miss his damn cat.

Isabella. I like boats and sex. Did I mention I like boats and sex? Hey, I like boats and sex. Boats? Sex? Love 'em. She should have stayed in Origins to make room for something new and interesting. Terrible heir to the "Morrigan" companion slot -- although I will admit that Claudia Black voice acting anything instantly makes it sexy. Seriously, make her voice act for a lamp post in some DLC and you'll have everyone begging you to make said lamp post a romanceable companion.

Fortunately, there are enough companions that I can just choose not to bring along the ones that annoy me. And I have to say again, kudos on Varric. That was a pleasant surprise.
