I can just Imagine what the next DA game will be like, The warden Leads (or the order rallying behind the Wardens death,) going into the deep roads with a massive army battling through the dark spawn, Hawke Rallying the mages and templars into a unified army and marches into the storm, The new Figure unifing the scattered armies of thedas and the Qunari into a last stand, the plans set in motion, bearing the fruit of Flemeth's labors, All to save Thedas from the fate of destruction at the hands what drove the qunari from their home and to spite the world for its wrongs against her.
Do you think a three pronged story would work? using 3 acts all with different characters doing different things but coming together at the end to work together would be feasible to do in modern gaming?
I think that would be fairly interesting, but having three protaganist would be a little difficult to deal with. Remembering what was going on at a given point, as well as the situation where you like one guy, but the others aren't what you want to play, but you have to play them anyway. If they were going this route, then I'd suggest they only use two characters. Hawke and the Warden would be fine. Still may be the case of one person liking one or the other, but at least there would be less switching in the end.

-Cursed mask/full body armor, to cover up the infinite variations of appearances and hide the figure.
-Have been made mute in the interrim, to avoid limiting the Warden to unacceptable voice actors.
-Have minimal/non-existent involvement with the rest of the cast, to reflect the impossibility of consistent characterization.
-To offer no opinion, no insight, or initiative. Again, to not negate everyone else's characterization.

However,Hawke is awesome. And,at the end of my original DA:O run,my Warden died to save Ferelden, and unless he can somehow be resurrected (which would be a major retcon that I wouldnt want.) It has to be Hawke again for the third one, unless we are going to be Alistair, which to me would probably be the definition of awesome.

Your bullet points are given me flashbacks to White Knight Chronicles generated character you could use online. He/she was present in the story, but seemed lucky just to get a simple nod from any of the characters. Personally I think that scenario would be a 'why did they bother?' situation. It would just annoy people.
I think if they were going to do it at all make it a cameo, at best a temporary companion (or one whose story involvement is somewhat minimal). Don't give them too much to say, but a decent amount you could get away with and record voices for either one voice actor for male and one for female regardless of their race.

I don't think that the Warden's story is over completely, just the main important part is.

That argument could have been made (although I don't see it as true) until she disappeared, leaving Ferelden without a queen. Obviously her story isn't over, because she's missing.christrek1982 wrote...

Hawke:"So Alistair, The Warden never says anything aloud do they?"
Alistair: "Really? i never noticed. But you're right."
Hawke: "Why not?"
Alistair: "Good question, the warden never told us."

All they need to do is let you create him again. From what I saw of the current character creator it was very similar to before. So that would be achievable.
The voice acting should be fine, as long as they get a good voice actor. Which Bioware usually does.

A silent warden would be awkward, but funny if played right.

Also... HAHAHA

Why do people keep talking about the Warden not talking? What do you think we were choosing when we were playing Origins? Sheesh. On top of that, it wouldn't be hard to import the Warden and maybe make a few modifications to the face where needed. Simple and easy.

I mean, it's such an obvious thing -- to bring back the main character of a previous game. If it were really a good idea, you'd see it all the time.

There are reasons that player characters don't come back as NPC's. Just saying.

I guess I'm confused about what you're getitng at. Care to elaborate a little more?

Allowing people to play as a new character will truly make the series stand out. We're talking about three heroes consecutively changing the world, all connected through peers and actions.

I REALLY don't want Bioware to shoehorn the Warden as the protagonist of DA3 and thus slap everyone who made the completely valid choice to have the Ultimate Sacrifice ending in the face by invalidating their choice

Even if your Warden is dead, there is still the Awakening Warden Commander from Orlais. People with the US could just play him.

But that seems to imply that people just want to play a Warden, to which I ask why? Warden's deal with Darkspawn and the Blight is over and any Warden story now should basically be a Deep Road's dungon crawl because well. . .thats where the Dark Spawn are.
What is this alure of playing old characters anyway? Its not the standard for cRPGs, TES, NWN, KOTOR, Deus Ex, Fallout all had different protagonists every expansion/sequel and games like BG and ME 1/2/soon 3 are the exception and not the rule. Plus coming from a tabletop background I just find it wierd as no DM I know would allow someone to continue playing their level 20+ character in a new campaign just because it happens in the same setting. Roleplaying is about portraying the lives of heros and villans in fantastic worlds, continually demanding that you play the same character over and over cheapens it in my mind

Hawke - gone.
Cassandra mentions this. It's time for a new hero. Hawke's story will be concluded in a expansion or you can conclude it in your imagination. It's probably the same story as with The Warden (if he/she didn't die) "Left Fereldan and never returned" and with Hawke it is "Left Kirkwall and went far far away and never returned." At least Varric claims so.

Also what if your Warden is dead? His death is acknowledged in DA2. If they did plan to retcon his death they would have done so insted of acknowledging it. Just like they did with Leliana.
