I'm worried about the game becoming too expensive if the warden were fully voiced with unique dialogue for specific DAO choices,

But then i thought "Can't we choose to pay for that?"

How about bioware make the *Warden* a DLC character? or even an expansion?

instead of charging 7 bucks for a character that we could do without, *cough* Sebastian *cough* how about give us the warden for $10-20 in DA3?

To make it worthwhile, every warden race/gender and decision is properly mapped out and voiced. Along with the usual DLC goodies of extra items, armor, special quests etc.etc.etc.

I know not everyone here plays mass effect 2, but a parallel i want to draw is with a character named Liara. She was present in Mass effect 1 but only had a cameo appearance in the main game of ME2. Bioware released a DLC that let you use Liara in a special mission with her. I thought that was a great idea, those that want her can have her, and it didn't break the game or the overall story if you didn't download her.... her actions (and the shadow guy she kills...) are still cannon in ME2 even if you didn't get the DLC.

I think the same can be done with the warden.

The problem with the warden isn't so much of "can it be done" but more: "how much will it cost"?

So the answer we have to give bioware is "how much we'll pay".

I'd fork out the cash just to have my Warden crack skulls again.,,, all 7 versions of him/her!

Damn, I would do this and wouldn't even think twice about it.  If we had "voice packs" for our Warden where we could get the voice we wanted if we didn't want the default and pay $10 for it, then I'd be all over that.  Since my Warden was human and male, then I'd assume that the default voice would be fine, but having the option for other races and genders would be awesome.

Hawke should be the companion for DA3

Teaming up the Hero of Fereldan & the champion of Kirkwall sounds great, pretty powerful too...but who would lead?

That being said, the game hasn't been out for 2 weeks yet so it's possibly that Hawkes story could be completed in the next 2+ years, assuming they're bringing one out that fast.

I want the Warden to. And stop talking about the ultimate sacrifice. Its not that hard to fix.

Orlesian warden if you did the ultimate sacrifice? I think and hope there was a reason that you could play as an orlesian warden in Awakening if you did the US. There are many hints in DA2 that Orlais will play a huge part in DA3, so bring the Warden back would make a lot of sense

So I would be really happy if he came back. I'm not sure if I want to buy DA3 if Hawke is the PC again. DA2 was not that bad, but not as good as DA:O, and Hawke didn't feel like my character when I played.

DA:O and the Warden was like an epic book, your choices had impact on the world and your companions. I could imagine how he felt about different things, how his voice was. I could set the pace of the game and make my own history. It felt like I wrote the whole story. He is a mirror of me in many aspects and this is what an epic RPG is about. I could reflect over things in the game even when I didn't play it.

DA2 feels lika a movie, they decide what I have to feel. The game sets the pace and decide what I shall do, it doesn't matter what I choose, it doesn't has a big impact anyways on how things proceed. Hawke don't feel like me since the VA tells me how to feel and react. I didn't care about my choices and the cheesy one liners in the game.

Maybe this seems weird to some of you, but this is how I feel.

Thank you for reading.

I would love the Warden to be the main Protagonist of DA 3 also. As many have said, I felt a lot more of a connection with the Warden than with Hawke (Who I did enjoy playing also). I love Gaider and his writing team. I think they do an excellent job. As such I would continue to play the DA Franchise if they were involved regardless. But constantly re-adjusting to new characters every title, in my opinion, make it harder for me to forge a connection with the World of DA.

Our protagonist is the main vessel by which we immerse ourselves into the Narratives and the game world. Having a reset switch each time a new game comes out, in this regard, hampers my immersion. It would be (I imagine) similar to if you were young and your Parents had to keep moving town/country. So every time you started to get settled into your Neighborhood, your School, make friends, get comfortable with the environment, your Parents say "Hey kid, time to jump shop again!" You get so used to the process that you start caring less about the very things that help you settle in. Making new friends, acclimatising yourself to your environment etc, just seem pointless, because you know you are just going to have to up and move again.

Even though I did enjoy DA 2, I feel this was a big part of the reason I didn't enjoy it as much as Origins. I just found myself wanting to move back to Ferelden (metaphorically speaking) and hang with my Warden.

Or, you know, it could just use the dialogue the Warden already had.

Varric: "By the Ancestors, The Hero of Ferelden?"
Warden: ">>[sarcastic response] Can I get you a ladder so you can get off my back?!"

If the Warden comes back what would they call it? I mean Dragon Age 2 is taken.

I wouldn't mind if they got rid of the talking protagonist, if they brought the Warden back that is.

It isn't that hard for them to come back for a cameo either, all they have to do is put a full frontal helmet on. No need for you to see their face then, though I'm sure they could reconstruct it from DA:Origins. I'm guessing that is what the transfer did from ME to ME2.

Also I believe it wasn't possible to transfer a dead character from ME to ME2, so why couldn't they do that here? Yes they said they would not retcon it, but technically this isn't. If you didn't perform the ritual, then perhaps none of what will happen in DA3 does happen. It seems extremely plausible, or they could atleast carry on with the Orlesian Warden from Awakenings.

It could be sought of like a DA:Origins 2, though I hope they wouldn't call it that, it sounds awful.

I have to put this out there, while I would love to play the Warden again or even have him as a Companion, and wouldn't care if he was voice acted, as he never had a voice in Origins anyway, this would be extremely hard, and near impossible for them to do(especially if he was voiced). The amount of different versions of him they'd have to do due to how many different decisions he could make in Origins, not to mention that if he was voice acted they'd probably need 6 different voice overs (Elf, Dwarf, Human. 2 of each for make and female).

Hawkes story isn't done, I can definitely see a sequel or expansion for Hawke, hell the Seekers are searching for Hawke to get him to set things straight all across the Free Marches.

All up, if Bioware thinks they can get the original Warden into a sequel as a companion or main character go ahead, I would love to see it happen. Hell I'd buy the game if they said he'd be in just one scene (like Allistair was in this) xD

Would be awesome if Hawke and the Warden were in the one party together in DA3, and you could choose whether Hawke or the Warden should be your main character.

Anyway, I really want to see Hawke again, as his story isn't finished. The Warden has potential if Bioware can do it.

P.S. Someone said the Warden died in the first for some people, and that is why the Warden can't be used again. Awakening is a sequel to DA:O, even if your Warden makes the ultimate sacrifice in DA:O he's somehow alive in Awakening, and Awakening carries on to DA2. Yes you can play as a new Warden, but it doesn't change the fact that your Warden is always alive if you import him :P

I don't see additional voice acting being hard or near impossible.... only really expensive. If we are willing to pay for it then i don't see why bioware would be unwilling to do it.

Maybe have a single, or even no, warden voice in the main game, and then offer a "voice pack" DLC.

For extra craziness maybe offer a unusual voice packs. I'd pay good money for a badass Arnold Shwarzneggar type voice.

"GET TO DA ELUVIAN!!!"

he wont return as a playable character. its just not feasible. writing an entire sequel with a character who's pretty much EXTREMELY vague.

what facts are universial about everyones wardens? killed archdemon, is a warden. bam, thats about it. how are you going to write a story that deeply involved such a vague character? you can't. if the warden r eturns they have to tip-toe completely around them and all the events to make everyone happy.

they have to make every version of the warden make sense in the story. and it'd end up being something stupid like "oh no......another blight of boring motivationless darkspawn......how interesting...."

I lol'd.

Games don't have to use the same main character for it to be called 2, or 3, or 4, and so on. Hell take Final Fantasy for example xD

SPOILER
I'm hoping you get to explore more in the sequel, as all the circles in the Freemarches have fallen, and I am assuming it's going to be based a lot on bringing the circle back or leaving it in ruins. Something along those lines. SPOILER END

Also I hope for less copy and paste of Dungeons, Alleys, Mansion, and so forth. Hell at the very least when you were doing the Dungeons you could have removed the parts of it on the map that weren't being used at the time :/

Hawke just doesnt seem to be as compelling as the Warden, I dont hate Hawke, but when the main person of the game doesnt really do anything Epic, it diminishes them.

They could easily make the Warden a voiced character if they wanted to and use the same formula as DA2, of course that means no elf and dwarf main characters tho.

Yeah as I said would be extremely hard to do and would take a loooong time, would also cost a lot of money.

However I think they can still have him in it as a side character, much like what they did with Allistair in Dragon Age: Awakening. He was still involved in the story without being playable. I think that could work with the Warden... have a few scenes using him... keep the Warden in the story but not as a playable character, that could work.

Hawke definitely has replay value though. I would love to see him in a sequel, or expansion, or both. I dislike having too many main characters in a story, and I am hoping Hawke is the last.

Hawkes story hasn't finished yet though ^.^ The ending was a bit of a cliffhanger so he still has a chance to go mega awesome if they made a sequel or expansion xD

I'm not too fussed with what race I play, oh I have pointy ears, oh I'm short or, oh I'm a ****. Doesn't change things a great deal, you just get the occasional Knife Ear comment, Shemlem comment from those bastard elves and well I just hate playing as a fat ugly Dwarf period. Garric is the first Dwarf in this series I actually liked.

I don't see why you'd have to have six different voices if they wanted the Warden to have one. Humans and dwarves and city elves all already sound alike, and they can just say that spending so much time out of their tribe has softened the accent of Dalish elves to where it's more or less unnoticeable.

yeaht he warden would be reduced to cameo level, maybe a quest giver at the MOST. i'd rahter have him not be in the game than be reduced to sucha  minor thing.

kill him off and close those loose ends imo

I dont know there is a cannon dragon age in there somewhere with the warden being a male warrior human thats got to be Mr Prince/King Cousland who is the Champions relative so yes they could both be in DA3 as there both missing and the GW have a super important secret mission at the end of DA2 conection me thinks so.

Would be a cool party hero and champion maybe flemeth can be the mage for the group i dont think they would need a fourth.

(i played my dead ultimat sacrefice warden in the Awakening game so it not like its impossible for unreasnoble things to start happeing)

I keep thinking of Dead Rising: Case West whenever I think of this subject. Honestly, I think DA2 should come out with a DLC "Sequel" that features Hawke and the Warden fighting alongside one another against some other never before seen foe more ancient than the Darkspawn themselves (Or perhaps another variety of Darkspawn, Iunno.) If the logistics of a storyline are too difficult, Hawke could simply just have a dream one night about a grand adventure with the Warden, and Bioware could plug said dream full of foreshadowing for a possible plot in DA3.

Something bad is certainly out there.

We have Sandal's prophecy, Leliana and Cassandra saying that both the Warden and Hawke being gone can't be a coincidence, the OGB, (/child now), who may/may not be related...

And then possibly Morrigan and the Warden both vanishing into the Eluvian... I just don't see a way that they can reconcile all the possible different endings and outcomes to make a coherent story without completely making your choices worthless in both games.

I guess we'll see.

I hope by kill him off you mean, don't use him in the story. I want my Warden to end up with Morrigan or Leliana by the end of this series xD

Whatever they end up doing, if they go all out with it, it's probably going to be at least 4 years, there is a lot of potential for Dragon Age 3. I'm actually hoping it takes that long, I want the next Dragon Age game to be as long and as epic as the first. Hopefully using Hawke, and having appearances with your old companions... even keeping some or getting some from the original back.

Wouldn't be bad if they made your Warden, from Origins or Awakening, the First Warden. Then he could possibly be quite a major character, though not a companion, and perhaps he could fight with your character, whomever he is, in the last battle. It would make it more interesting than just saying he died, I would be dissapointed if they ended the Warden with that.

Or they could just use the Warden from Awakening, it didnt matter if your Warden died in Origins or not for the Awakening expansion, your argument just doesnt hold much merit.

I must say I think your idea is absolute genious. Having the Warden from Origins become the First Warden. This way, he'd only need to apear occasionally, or only be mentioned, he can be referred to as First Warden as he didn't really have a name that can be voice acted, and he wouldn't be reduced to a minor character, he'd become the friggen First Warden! If he did appear in a few scenes, I doubt it would be too hard doing 6 different voices for those few scenes.
