Love DA but bioware should have delayed release to work out all bugs.

WARNING: Before you continue reading there may be spoilers contained.

1. some times after killing enemies does not update quest or trigger the next event. You either have to walk around or talk to the npc several times and see npc repeat the same thing several times in order for the trigger to activate.

2. One example of a bad bug that froze the quest was the quest in the Alienage regarding Ser Otto. You were trapped in the room after killing the first boss. both doors were locked and you could not progress. I had to restart several times.

3.After deciding to spare loghains life you get him as a party member, and Alastar leaves.however when ur at Redcliffe castle talking to Arl Eamon instead of Loghain talking you hear Alastar talking even though its Loghain lol.

4. After closing the deal with Morrigan about the child, the scene after Redcliffe Castle is SEVERELY BROKEN! I swear this is the biggest bug in the entire game. The denerim gates scene does not load correctly and no triggers activate. you can walk throughout a burning denerim without seeing a single enemy or npc. if you talk to Eamon on the hill he ends up saying the same thing he says back at Redcliffe and screws up the denerim area, You end up seeing through the mountains and trees above you and water textures -_-.

So far no matter how many times i try reloading and using the debug cheat  it wont fix that part >.<

the problem with working out bugs, as you say, is that computer systems are so greatly varied in terms of hardware that it is literally impossible to fix every bug prior to release.

i'm sure that the game would not have come off the drawing board if it didn't function perfectly on the machines the programmers and game testers were using.

I've nearly finished the game and have put over 70 hours into it according to my savegame data, I believe it's actually rather longer when you count reloading.

Therefore given the size and complexity of the game, I think the bug count is quite acceptable... as a professional game programmer myself, I think they've done well.

But they've not done perfectly (perfection is not attainable after all) and what DOES make me angry is the total lack of response when bugs are reported. DLC is fundamentally broken, apparently for just about everybody, and there have been NO acknowledgements, workarounds or fixes, or even an ETA for such. I can't use Shale and I can't use Warden's Keep, both of which I paid money for, and I don't know if I should wait a few days for a fix, or give up and try to get my money back (a demand which I suspect would be ignored).

Bugs are inevitable - there's almost certainly over a million lines of code in this game and you simply can't write that much code without bugs. Can't be done. However, total silence when bugs are reported, and trying to pretend those bugs don't exist, despite the fact people have paid money for the buggy content - THAT is not acceptable.

@BittermanAndy. Surely as a programmer you know that Bioware have their hands tied by the publisher who for all intent and purpose own them and the rights to any work by them.

It is EA who will make demands upon the developers release patches and fix anny issues they feel need it. It is EA who operate the DLC servers and authorisation and it is EA who have the choice to offer the community any notice of work being done or not.

But as usual EA refuse to engage meaningfully with the community and we just have to make do with the odd postings on this community site from Bioware employees who probably have better things to be doing than reading through pages and pages of board posts all practically saying the same thing.

We'd better help ourselves if these boards were moderated, pruned and edited to make it easier to find useful information.

That is within Bioware's remit.

@ZootCadillac: not being part of that company, it is impossible for me to say whether Bioware or EA are to blame. I'm not pointing fingers at either one, let alone individuals within... I just know that total silence reflects extremely poorly on both of them. I actually don't really care which of EA/Bioware is failing, because I'm a customer like any other and I'm being let down.

Well all I can say is that I hope the next "patch" is a big one and not just a 1.0.1c lol

- fixed 3 spelling mistakes.

- fixed 2 grammar mistakes.

- See you in a month!

Hi BittermanAndy,

I can understand your frustration. As for the lack of responses regarding DLC, outside of a couple responses in the DLC thread (Jason Leong has asked for people in the DLC thread to contact him, for those unaware) there hasn't been very much interaction.

Part of this is because it's hard to make definitive comments about our potential solutions, while we're still working out the issues. Giving ETAs for the patches is us giving feedback, but it is also risky because if our estimates end up being wrong, then the frustration will still continue to grow (people get upset when games are delayed, for example).

I know this message is fairly hollow and in and of itself, doesn't say very much. I'm a QA Tech Systems Tester so I don't have much of the details for the fixes being explored for the DLC issues, but I will say that no one here is happy with the issues many of the DLC users are having, and we certainly aren't casually ignoring their concerns.

I'll ask around and see if I can get some more information, but at this stage it's difficult to promise very much. I'm sorry for this.

Take care.

Allan

I've had 2 bugs where characters stood on unreachable ground after cutscenes, however both where easily fixed by leaving the area (which i was doing both times anyway). Thats all i've had for at least 60 hours of playing.

Thank you for the post Allan, I think people would be happy just to have BioWare people would just post on the thread and let them know that indeed they are aware of the problem and are working not it. When people post problems and many others pop in saying they have the same thing going on with no acknowledgement from support staff they feel like they are being ignored, just my two cents for what its worth.

I understand the concern. It's in part why I made the post in this thread. It's tricky because there are a lot of threads combined with not enough time in the day. I have other, non-DA related tasks as well, and I have tried casting Timestop but alas it keeps fizzling :)

Allan: I understand completely that accurate ETAs are risky and not practical (been there!). I still think "the next few days because it's our top issue" / "the next few weeks - we're working on it as best we can" / "maybe never, we don't think it important enough" is not unreasonable to ask.

Even if it is, a sticky thread with the bugs being worked on - without an ETA - would be a decent second best. Aside from your post here, I've seen absolutely no acknowledgement (not even via the "official" support lines, let alone these user-driven forums) that EA/Bioware are even aware that these issues exist.

Thanks for providing such an acknowledgement - good to know someone IS actually looking into it - but it's an unsatisfactory way to do it... one would think EA could afford to employ a community manager?

Bitterman, I have definitely seen acknowledgment of the major problems from BioWare employees. They did not sticky the threads, however, and they have been lost in the mix by now.
