Ok i jst gave up on tryin to kill him on hard difficulty with my warrior i literally spent 1hr to get his hp almost half way down jst so he could use a potion and go almost back to full hp again. Then 30 mins later he potted again by that time i was out of potions and eventually died. I was lvl 18 with a 2 handed reaver based class and got rocked. I didnt have the doggy though or the dlable content yet dont know if that would have made a difference or not doubt it.

I did, but I had to reload after a few fails. My first playthrough my mage build was all wrong, so I was pummeled. I ended up having to load up on a ton of combustion potions. It was an excruciatingly long fight with a lot of kiting. Not proud, but like I said, my mage build wasn't up to the task. I killed him on normal.

It was still a long fight, but more manageable with my 2H warrior with Templar spec. I kept shutting down his special abilities.  I haven't tried it again as a mage.

Step 1: Run
Step 2: Dodge
Step 3: Summon Mabari
Step 4: Use cold things to slow him down
Step 5: Great Haste
Step 6: Don't get impaled
Step 7: Something boring happens
Step 8: Profit.

EDIT: He's also quite susceptible to stun, so using an upgraded Mind Blast from time to time is quite helpful.

It was a highly annoying fight, but basically chain stun/slow/root spells on him until he finally keels over.

Badly designed fight, imo.

Petrify and horror helps to lock him in place for a few seconds too. As others say it's a lot of kiting around :/

As a warrior if you equip a 2 handed weapon and target the arishok and simply run around a pillar you can attack through the pillar (breaking the fight, but easily beat him with minimal effort) It may seem cheap but without that strategy you'd probably be running around the room anyways, occasionally bonking him in the back of the head once then running, as a warrior you have little options otherwise, whereas at least as a rogue you can use evade rather effectively and as a mage, well the fight is cake with frost and or petrify. With any class you'll be kiting however...

Well I'm doing this on my mage right now. It was cake - and then he impaled me. My health bar was full, I have about 32 con, and the impale lasted about 5 secs? or so and took away 3/4 of my health. Before I could move again as my character was rising from the ground, he did the swirling blades attack which finished me. So the impale is basically auto-death for me.

edit: I just did the group battle in ~5-10 minutes because I got fed up with this kiting. My mage had only spirit bolt and horror to do damage with so it wasn't fun nor was it worth my time.

My build wasn't really meant for this and I didn't want to spend 30 mins kiting his ass:

force mage spells: pointless, since I had only fist of the maker and telekinetic burst
bloodmage spells: meh at best, pretty pointless in this fight also
spirit tree: spirit bolt works, walking bomb useless here, death syphon useless here
creation: heal! whoopee
entropy: horror works

Slaughtered him. Got impaled numerous times, but had two defensive (Time-sensitive) items in my arsenal, the shield and one for a templar...also Fadeshear was inflicting poison, and well- okay- was at a high level. I cannot imagine beating the beast at level 18! Did a lot of running and he hung me up on the blade several times, needing full healing. But he never got me below 30% health. I cannot emphasize enough making certain all quests, including hunting every spot for seemingly worthless items to help level up. Night-fighting was a colossal way for me to get rich and level up. What can I say- the warrior IS a scrapper.

Did him one-on-one on nightmare. frost spells does most damage on him, also used petrify horrow and gravity ring (care he can charge out of gravity). THe only problem is getting animation locked so take care when autoatacking.
Oh i also did not use a single potion there - used blood magic to cast spells and when goten low disabled it heal, use up remaining mana and turn blood magic on again. Nothing hard if you have rigth spells just takes long.

Advise (on hard)

- Activate Dog (if you have it)

- Dn't use a fire staff, learned that the hard way... even a random lightning staff as a random drop with significatnly less damage output fares better in this battle...

- Pillars are your friend, as you run away make close circles around the pillars, so you can avoid him hurting you but ALSO sometimes let him perform a move while you are not in his range, then unleash your attacks..

-Dodge the charge, and attack him while he's idle

- Have a spell (like stone fist) which can unbalance him even for just one sec (lightning dosn't do this btw) So you can escape if he's to close...

- Immobilize spell like Petrify works, but I tend to not use it ( only in emergency heal moments) becuase it increases his damage resistance..

- Heal potions, I recommend Restoration ones, ALOT

- Run away

I was a primal Bloodmage, And it was quite hard, don't touch blood magic though cause you need the health, Area of effect are a bit useless as well in my opinion...

Yes, I made it on Hard and it was not so difficult. Cast Horror or Winter Grasp orGravitic Ring. Cast every offensive/debuff spell I got against him (not firestorm off course: it would have been suicidal). Kyte untill cooldown is ok. Drink the occasional helath potion in cas I made an error of positiong. Repeat the procedure. Arishock is dead.

Did it on Hard a few hours ago, wasn't too difficult although admittedly a mage was more irritating than the other two classes. As long as you have some sort of stun or slow, you're golden - you can do without them too I'd imagine but they just make things much simpler. Personally I had imp Horror so while goatman was flailing around like he'd found a tarantula in his nightcap he also took damage. I just lobbed Horror, Crushing Prison and Walking Bomb (corrosive) and ran off. Waited for the cooldown and did it again. Granted, I'd not win any points for my talent trees considering I took what looked interesting but in my defense, it was my first mage. Also, after he does his charge, you can throw down a quick aoe if you're feeling lucky - in my case, I threw down Hemo a few times but admittedly, it's rather idiotic to be in blood mode in a baddie encounter where HP is precious. Oh, and get a cold staff - lightning and fire are absolute tripe in this encounter. That Tempest spell I took that makes my balls feel big was no use...not to mention Hawke is stuck in place for like 4 seconds because he's a massive drama queen that likes twirling his baton around.
Overall, it was pretty fun - reminded me a lot of my aff lock in WoW where I'd just lob Curse of Exhaustion at things and run around in circles while my DoTs ticked.

Looking back at this bloke, I think mages have the hardest time with him. Warrior was boring as hell since it was just a matter of sidestepping and running out of stamina faster than potions could restore. Rogue was stupidly easy - just backstab kite and assassinate when he runs himself into a wall.

Oh and those Elfroot potions? They're bloody useful if you bork things - restore 80% hp and 40% power (mana/stamina). Cheers mate. Make sure you take his head when you finish - according to future rumor, you're supposed to use the tosser's skull as a gravy tureen.

*edit* Those potions? I forgot to mention - if you're in blood mode, make sure you disable it first hehe

One on one with a mage. It would have been much harder without paralyzing/slowing/stunning spells, but I had Glyph of Paralysis, Mind Blast, Winter's Grasp, and as a Force Mage, Pull of the Abyss (which slowed him to a crawl). And, of course, Dog. It wasn't difficult, but extremely tedious with all the kiting.

I'm starting another rogue playthrough (did the group fight on my first rogue playthrough), and I expect it to be significantly harder without being able to stun or slow him as much as a mage can.

I had Templar spec with silence, and some berserker for damage output.  Combustion potions to stun him, then scythe, sidestep, silence to prevent him from using rush (or whatever the heck it is).  Lots of the health/stamina restore potion.  Just keep dancing around him with combustion, scythe, mighty blow, and silence.  Stun him, then move behind him to increase chance for critical hit.  Takes a long time with his darn health potions.

Rogue:
Backstab kite. By that you just run around a bunch and hit backstab when you can. After charges you can usually get in an assassinate if you're nearby. Don't use twin fangs - takes too long to "leave" the hit animation. I'd advise you find some way to stack mana/stamina and crit chance/damage equipment for it - it'll make it simpler than chain-drinking potions. And turn off any modes you have on since you'll never be there long enough to hit him more than a few times.

Warrior:
Isolate which attacks do nice damage without requiring a) CCC or B) have a "cast" animation longer than a second. Conserve stamina for those and any attacks that can stun - can't remember any off the top of my head. Essentially, hit him once or twice and immediately sidestep to avoid his blows. Since he'll only land a hit if you're in front of him, a 90 degree turn will be sufficient. Keep a close eye on the goat for any charged up abilities such as his charge or whirlwind. If charge, get the hell away from the front 180 degree area and follow him to his end destination. You can use his recovery time to get a few hits in. If he whirlwinds, back up a bit and just wait it out. Impale cannot be evaded, you'll just have to eat it so keep your life reasonably high. As I said a few posts back, Elfroot potions are immensely useful.

In both cases, I imagine you could use grenades if you timed it correctly. I never did so feel free to correct me on that. Also, poisons are nice although I never used them on my warrior - I didn't think you could (and I still don't know - never bothered to find out)

Any melee class can now use poisons, unlike in DA:O/A.  I'm not sure if archers can; I don't think so.  But I'm sure about the melee classes since I've done it.

I think alot of fight havent had much playtesting to be honest . I've found all the boss fights very boring 30 minute fights on hard.

didnt help my mage didnt have many attacking spells.

From my 2 times dueling him, 2hand vanguard warrior and primal/elemental mage, I have had to kite him well, but using burst well, I killed him both times on normal, one shot. As a warrior, get Bolster sometime well before you fight him, and use it to regen while running around pillars, and then Scythe to being a quick burst. As a mage, he is very easily frozen from frost spells. I haven't gotten to him as a rogue yet, mostly because I have had a hard time picking between archery and dual wield.

Probably said before, but Arishok is basically the same fight with any class. He has 3 potions. You have as many as you can carry. Don't let him hit you enough to kill you and keep pecking away. It's easier (i.e. it tends to take fewer potions on your part if you are impatient) as a class that deals ranged damage.
