I would like to know this too. He seems like the armor smith from the Origins and the Awakening.

Thank You! I have been wondering that hell purpose he serves too! i mean why make an interactive character that has no purpose!!!!!! I think something was skipped over here in the rush to release the game.im thinking he was intended to be a smithy that you could find resources for and have him make armor or weapons for you but was never finished.

He's involved in some quest like "Picking up Pickaxes". It's comes from the miners at the Bone Pit

Do you know how to get this quest? I have been to the "Bone Pit" many time during act 2 and the only additional quest I recieved was clearing a mine of spiders. I think it was from someone called Jensen.

You have to talk to your partner, the Bone Pit quests do not register on your quest log except for the one with Brekken and Pick up Pickaxes. Imo, Bone Pit overall felt like it was meant to play a bigger role originally but the content got cut due to the time contstraint.

I don't think it was meant more to be a place where you drop by to bash some skulls.

I don't know, the quests weren't just about bashing skulls in the mine, it's about helping your fellow Ferelden. Yet nothing seem to come out of your action at all. Not to mention the fact you can actually acquire the mine in Act 3 after you kill the high dragon, yet you can't do anything with it.

Huh, I never got any pickaxe quest, though I got the spider one and the undead one. Guess I'll have to check Hubert more often!

I think he is a qunari convert. Smith is probly his "role" wich would be also his "name" in the Qun.
Atleast thats my bet

For the quests in question (During Act 2):
1. Go to Bone Pit. Do the quest to kill the spiders.
2. Leave Bone Pit and go somewhere else, or go deal with the evil tome in the cave.
3. Return to the Bone Pit, talk to Jensen again. He gives you a quest to go kill undead. Go kill undead.
4. Leave Bone Pit, go somewhere else.
5. Return to Bone Pit. Jensen will ask for Pickaxes.
6. Go talk to Smith. He'll sell you pickaxes (15g).
7. Return to Bone Pit, give Jensen pickaxes.
