So...I've been romancing Fenris throughout the entire game...might have made a few flirty comments directed at other characters every now and then, but pursued no relationship with anyone other than him. And some lovely people at the Blooming Rose. In Act 2 after I did his personal quest and we had the very sudden angry sex, he stormed out (as is scripted) and I did NOT choose the conversation option 'So you're ending it?'.

Later on, party members made comments about our relationship...I finished his personal quest by killing Danarius and telling him that killing his sister won't help him any, so he let her go. Then he says that he has nobody and I chose the romance option telling him that he still had me. He then storms out of the pub (again, as is scripted). There were no other romance/conversation scenes with him thereafter. This already seemed odd to me.

Now, it is worth noting that we were in a rivalry-romance since I sided with the mages and he, of course, hates that. Right before the final showdown in the Gallows, he was wearing the red armband and the family crest on his belt. When I chose to side with the mages, he tells me that he won't side with me and leaves the party. Later on, in the gallows courtyard, he shows up with some templars and I ask him whether joining me would be too much to ask for. He says yes and a fight starts, where I kill him (no remains, but he did go down).

Then, when Varric is telling the epilogue and gets to the part where he says that we all ran to the mountains but eventually everyone left to live their own lives...everyone, but Fenris. This is to say he stayed with me.

How the hell is that possible if I killed him with my own two hands/blades/whatever? Why was there no further romancing possible between us after the end of his personal quest? I read that if you are in a romance with him, he will side with you even if you choose the mages...does he only do this if you are in a friendship with him, or does it work if you are his rival too? This got me so very confused... any input would be appreciated.

This is a known bug. You get that line about whoever you romanced first regardless of the outcome.

Edit: and you need to be at 100% rivalry to get him to come back and side with you in the end. There's supposed to be a conversation after you kill Danarius but I only got it to trigger when I had full rivalry and I don't think I got a journal entry for it, I just went to Fenris' mansion afterwards with a full rival bar and talked to him and it triggered. When I had less than a full rivalry bar I never got it.

Alrighty, I'm friend!romancing him and I'm not quite at 100% and the same thing happened to me: he leaves but there's no storming off to his mansion and no follow-up conversation (and NO asking for forgiveness for leaving me in Act 2).

So I just have to try to bump him all the way up to 100% and it will trigger? And just to clarify, this is an extra conversation and NOT the same thing as the "questioning beliefs" one right?

Okay, replayed the third act just to get this right...the second romance scene can only be triggered once you have 100% rivalry/friendship with him...you go to his place and talk to him. And yes, I believe it is different from the questioning beliefs one.

Oh thank you! Good, I'll try that. I'm glad I don't have to start all over again; I thought it'd sabotaged myself by being too magey in the first act.

From what I understand, the conversation triggers like it should on the Xbox 360. So its definitely a PC bug.
