I'm sure he'll come back one way or another; I mean, they couldn't of just made him pretty and blonde(all male DA LIs, anyone?) for just DAII. Unless they pull an Alistair on him in DAIII. In that case, disregard everything. It hurts less.

But hopefully his mage-o-meter is fixed.

Cullen, sweetheart, you may need to find a new line of work.

Er... "pull an Alistair" Image IPB? I've never heard that before...

Having white hair is close enough, even if it was black at some point. B)

What I would like to see is that Cullen realizes that the Chantry/ Templars is/ are rather corrupted and is trying to find an alternate route to establish a circle... (remember when he says "I'll look ito it") Considering that he disagrees with the Circle in Kirkwall it would be plausible... However after whar happened in Ferelden he might also see the DA2 happenings as the last straw (oh wait wasn't that the name of the quest?? lol) and lose his way completely and leave the Chantry all together and would then be recruitable for whatever cause we are going to pursue in DA3. Who knows, maybe we'll be on the opposite side in DA3 and we'll be fighting against the mages... They can go nuts just as easy as Templars can... look at Tevinter... As it is right now I'll probably side with Leliana because I know her... she works for the Devine, right?

If you talk to Cullen at one point he says how he wonders if he is still serving the Order anymore or just Meredith. That the Order there has lost it's way. No matter the result you pick. Cullen draws the line when Meredith wants the Champion's head. You know the only person with as much if not more influence than her's?

When does he talk about this the Order and Meredith?

Cullen was a rat after defeating the mages while Meredith wants to execute you Cullen only wants to arrest you. (grumble) Ungrateful schleps.

I'm not sure how DLC with Cullen would work, considering after the epilogue the Templars have reverted back to independent status. I guess he could quit the Templars, but considering what he went through in DA:O, I doubt that he feels that mages are in the right. Remember he doesn't consider the Templars to be bad, he considers Meredith to be overzealous and ruling with too much of an iron fist. I think he still believes that Mages need to be controlled by the templars, but not to the levels that Meredith sinks to in the third act.

I don't think it would be a matter of him thinking the mages are right. Considering the events of DA2 I think it would be more along the lines as he realizes both sides are truly at  fault. Then what Meredith does at the end might make him question the way the Order has been run and the treatment of mages. I think it may just be a matter of "Questioning Beliefs." I can see him as a companion trying to restore peace and order between the mages/templars and our Hawk(if its a DLC or expansion, or new protagonist in DA3) helping him establish that peace to tame the chaos that sprouted form the events at Kirkwall. At one point Hawke states "There's fault on both sides. We need to find a way to live in peace"  after finishing the "Enemies Among Us" quest (depending on your dialogue choices). Cullen then replies  "Perhaps better education on why the chantry functions as it does. Perhaps they will not go against the will of Andraste herself. I will look into it. " So I think he would prefer peace as well.

Anyway, just my opinion/assumption.

P.S. I really hope that Hawke's story will be continued but who knows with Bioware. Image IPB

No I didn't side with the circle, I sided 100% with the Templars and wiped out Orsiono and his lackeys.  Then Meredith turns on you, and Cullen starts to pipe up and I think 'Great!  He's going to stick up for me!'  and he says they weren't going to execute the champion and his group, just arrest them.

I didnt finish my run as a rogue that sides with the templars but with my two mages (siding with the Circle) the impression he gave me was that he stands by me...maybe he was afraid of directly opposing Meredith? He supposingly didnt know that Meredith would go nuts at the end......
He was not afraid to oppose her when siding with the mages tho....
but lets not forget that a member of your party, a friend of yours has opened Pandora's box.....at least he should try to investigate..no?
dont say no Beer or you're a dead man :P

I'd expect Cullen to be with Cassandra and Leliana's faction of moderate Chantry loyalist Templars. Though if he was you'd expect Cassandra to be better informed.

How much time has past from the moment Hawke left till Cass found Varric?
And more informed about what? Cass may have heard too many stories about what happened so she may want to verify them with someone that really knew the Champion.

So maybe in these three years, Culen stayed loyal to the Order and was trying to rebuild what's left. But he knows only a little of what really happened and how all began...Cass wants to know the whole story...i remember at a point she asked Varric if the Champion new what would they find in the deep roads....assuming she was thinking that she/he may knew about the idol and did it on purpose....she needed someone to put the blame on....and Hawke was in the middle of it so she/he would be the primal suspect....

In the order you can't question your commander's orders. You must obey no matter how crazy these orders are. Cullen actually showed remarkable courage defending the Champion. Because Meredith could order to execute him as well. Which she kind of tried to do, but nobody listened to her anymore

So since the official Cullen thread seems pretty dead compared to this one, I figured I'd post my thoughts here.

I've seen a lot of theories and fanworks where Cullen joins the templars because he was given to the chantry as a child, which I rather like in the whole "he's Wynne's and Greagoir/Irving's kid" kind of way.

But one of his dialogues makes me think he really joined the Order on his own. After the fight with Uldred you can talk to him to get him to tell you:
"I wanted to be a knight, but I never really thought about why we were needed."

Thoughts?

We dont have any info on why he joined the Order or about his childhood so anything is possible. I dont mind whatever the case is.

SQUEEEEE!<3<3:wub:

@Kriselia : I personally DO NOT like the idea that Cullen is Wynne/Irving's offspring. First of all poor lad. Who would want Wynne as a mother?  Also, I really feel like he became a knight/templar on his own.Actually, to come back to that Wynne theory, do we know how old he is?

I've always thought he was young as heck in those early scenes of the Mage Origin.  Probably 20-22 years old, at the most.  In my canon, then, he's just entering his late twenties during the events of Act 3.

I do believe he's going to make a major appearance during the next Dragon Age.  I see him at the minimum coming back as a companion.  He'll probably be a love interest.  That's just me, though.  He seems to have grown more than just about any other NPC we see in the game.  He's also met and interacted hugely with BOTH the Warden and the Champion.  I can't imagine he won't be really important in the ongoing tale that is Dragon Age.

With that in mind, having him coming to terms with such a hugely pertinent fact of parentage would make for an amazing sort of twist to his story.  He's been so wounded by mages.  Discovering his mother was a mage would just be...incredible.

But we'll see, I suppose.

His interaction with the Warden wasnt that big.....he had a small role only if the warden was a F mage.
but i agree that it would be interesting to see him reacting to that revelation....

I'd also guess at an early-twenties age for him, his rather old-looking model in Origins made it hard to guess though. So he would be the right age to be Wynne's kid (Alistair's age) but I don't think he'd get stationed at the same tower his parent/s are at.

I prefer the joined-the-order-himself theory too, doesn't make for as much personal drama (which he already has plenty of...) but makes him more well-rounded as an individual.

12-year-old Cullen dreaming of the exciting life of a knight, joins the order and gets stationed at a rather boring tower, doesn't really have the mage-hating attitude to climb in ranks, but then gets caught up in some serious abomination stuff and gets a complete world-view overhaul.

Ah Cullen, you just-mysterious-enough, you...
