Btw, the convo Batteries mentioned goes like this:

Hawke: I've heard a lot about the knight-commander. What's she really like?
Cullen: She is not an easy taskmaster. But it is not an easy task. I would not have liked her when I was younger. I thought mages deserved a softer touch. But Meredith is never fooled by a sweet face. She always sees the demon behind it.

(Edit: New page, new Cullen. This time with puppy eyes =] )

I do wonder why he doesn't mention Surana.  He was possibly in love/had a crush on/stalked mercilessly the Fem!elf mage, too.

I mean, granted, the minute she left the tower, he never had a chance with Moira (Alistair and Zevran totally turned her head), but if your Hawke's a mage, I see no reason why a Surana wouldn't be brought up either.

Well he only mentions Amell because he knows Hawke is an Amell, it would be a little odd to bring up someone Hawke has no reason of knowing or having heard of.

All that would have been needed was, "You remind me of a mage I knew once, but that's neither here nor there."

So... Suranas are evil while Amells are not?  LOL

Do you have to have an imported game for this conversation?

I prefer Surana too, so it's a little lame she gets handwaved, but I'm brimming with optimism after Mahariel, who was pretty ignored earlier, got a ton of references and story connections in Witch Hunt and 2. So I'm all optimistic that the other origins aren't forgotten either.

I would've also liked some acknowledgement between him and Anders. Anders was at the Fereldan circle after all, pretty much all the other mages there seemed to know Cullen by name, and they even talk to eachother directly in DA2. And there's not even a throw-away line about any of that? Nothing?

At least ONE crack about escaping.  However, had he recognized Anders...  Oh, hell... plot bunny to cover to plot hole.

Hmm, dunno. I got that on my Dalish Warden import, so atleast it doesn't have to be a mage import.

You can get it after you've fnished the questline with the kidnapped templars, next time you come to the Gallows you can talk to Cullen more and have several investigate options.
For me the convo started with him saying something like "The knight-commander commends your quick thinking"

I was actually assuming that Anders was being incognito, trying to keep the mage thing a secret, then suddenly Cullen tells him to "Think what you like, mage."

Uh, wait, so everyone knows Anders is a mage? And no-one's bothering to confront him about the apostasy thing? Even though Hawke and Bethany have to keep the maging a secret.
And Anders being a Gray Warden seemed to be something of a secret too. So...

After that I was expecting some kind of reference to the Fereldan Circle, but no. I mean, Anders was constantly escaping, he spent a year in solitary. You'd think he was someone the templars would recognise on the spot.

Yeah.. hence my plothole thought.  You'd think the Ferelden Circle Templars would have his face memorized (Wanted:  Dead or Alive).  He's lost some weight, but not that much.... so why wouldn't Cullen recognize him.... Unless our Warden asked him to just let it be if he ran into him?  Or realizes since Anders is now and forever a Grey Warden, he's outside Templar jurisdiction?  But that still doesn't explain the lack of recognition.

I like Cullen with puppy eyes.

So, from what i understand he says that no matter what your origns is. So he propably had a crush on a f-mage and just comments on that, justifying his previous belief. You know, something like that:
You know, you can be fooled by a sweet face but Meredith can see behind that and recognise the danger all mages represent
As for Anders, he could have escaped for the last time before Cullen was tranported there, so he may knew the name but not the face. We dont know for how long Cullen has served in the COM and when Anders escaped for good. I suspect Cullen hadnt spent that much time in the COM, well, long enough to fell in love with a mage but not that long to has his beliefs and views changed by the other templars and their behaviour towards mages. What im trying to say is that had Cullen served long enough there he eventually had started seeing mages with diferent eyes, since most of the templars there were not mage friendly as him.
But he generally has a friendly approach both in DAO and DA2 towards  mages, that is clear to see.

Cullen is not mage friendly, not even in DA2. Ask him about the "tranquil solution" for instance. He also says "mages and templars can't be friends," and talks generally about how mages are not really people, just as he did in Origins.

Personally, I think they were trying to make him look a bit more like the Cullen on the right. Then again, I'm slightly biased... *coughs*

He says that in Origins after the events at the Circle....him being tortured and even feeling guilty being one of the few survivors cost him to hate mages for what they can do.....and its the Templar's training as well...a person that has spent his entire life under the Chantry's supervision cant change so easily his beliefs...and certainly after what Uldread did to the Cirlce...
And mages and templars cant be friends.....dont let Thrask full you...:P

If it's info from the toolset it doesn't have any bearing on the game. The toolset also lists Ali being around 30, they were just general notes from the writers for the voice actors and such.

Well, yeah that's the point; it's not true
