He seemed to only get less friendly with me as time went on, at least by Act 3 (of course, supporting Orsino at every turn probably had something to do with that). I also have to ask why you Tranquilized Feynriel...
I also though his turnabout in the final battle was rather odd. Meredith says that Hawke will share the Circle's fate, and Cullen pipes up with "I thought we were only going to arrest the Champion!" Except... Meredith said the exact same thing at the beginning of the Gallows siege, while Cullen was there. What did he think she meant that time?

Cause it's the same dialogue if you side with the templars. =P

DA2 isn't a bad game (I've played through mulitple times) but I think there's no denying it was rushed and some parts suffered for it.

OMG, that video with Greg Ellis talking like Barbossa made my day (and the fact that he posted the vids I made on his wall added to that! :D)

@Xilizhra, I think it can be seen, actually. How his personality and attitude evolves. In the act 1 it's only a year or two since Uldred's rebellion, and he says a few very harsh things (even Masha point it out), but still you can reason with him and he agrees that not all mages are bad people, and he's eager to do some work in the Circle, to explain the Order's position to the mages. So he's open for a dialogue. Of course, he probably fails, because there are always people like Alrik and Karras, who are a living proof that Anders is right. So Cullen is still very naive and idealistic in the act 1.

In the act 2, if you read his letter to Meredith (the mental image of Cullen running around Kirkwall and throwing about his letters, like Anders does with his manifestos - OMG), you can see, that he simply follows what the order dictates, as he should, because he's a templar. There is nothing extreme there, like "let's kill all mages!", he says that templars kill only those mages, who turned into abominations. And one of the options he proposes is a self-defence (to fight BACK physically - I quote his letter) and the other option is a sort of infowar. So, Cullen is still against the bloodshed. (I don't understand why my Hawke thought that Cullen supported the massive tranquility, I thought Cullen simply agreed that sometimes there's no other way than to make a mage tranquil. Even Anders agreed with that after I tranquillized Feynriel)

In the act 3 I think he's the most friendly to Hawke. He seems tired of that conflict. And he begins to question Meredith's orders. If you side with the templars in the end, you can feel how he's annoyed with her orders and prefers to listen to Hawke rather than to her. And even confronts her in the end. I believe the time was his healer and the good-old Cullen came back by the end of the game, which is awesome, because I missed that guy :)

There are Cullen Letters?

First I've heard of that. Where can you find them?

I've been following this thread for a while now, and I have to say that I love how at home I feel here. So many like-minded people!

I love how Cullen has grown in DA2. It would be a crime not to give him a more prominent role in either DLC or DA3. I'd be willing to wait until the latter if it meant we could have Cullen as a proper companion and yes, LI. :D

Oh and for those who love Mr Ellis - here I'm sure some of you have already seen it, but just in case! Love that man.

This is how I feel! I really enjoyed Cullen's brief parts in Origins. Much more fantastic for female mages too. After watching On Stranger Tides tonight, I realized it was time to admit that I want more Cullen in DA. Almost every time Greg got a line I had to smile and mention to my friends (who obviously didn't care) that he was Cullen, and as I said "Good-Anders, the Awakening one. Not DA2 Anders." :P

I was definatly sad at the Flag Scene near the end.

I had a wildly different interaction with him. As an Apostate that was on the fence for most of Act 3, he seemed to geniunely like Hawke. At first I thought this was pretty out of character with how he was at the end of Origins, but Gaider did say that the epilogues for any characters weren't set in stone.

In what situation does Cullen tranquilize Feynriel? Or do you mean the player? In one playthrough, (as that Apostate) I did tranquilize him myself. I just wasn't sure if he could be trusted with that power in Tevinter. Though with the Gallows, that entire section feels awkward and rushed to me.

@Xilizhra, my Hawke was an apostate and sided with mages, and still Cullen was nice to her. Of course I didn't pick agressive options, that was a diplomatic Hawke.
I tranquilized Feynriel because he asked about it himself, on my 2nd playthrough. On my first he didn't and I let him go.
Cullen's letters can be found in codex. One of them is "Mage rebellion". The other he sends to Hawke about Aveline in the 3rd act. There may be more, but I don't remember, because I haven't played the game for some time.

That was my experience as well, even on my more hardline mages, he was always nice.

He is a knight of the Templar Order, first and foremost, which is a religious army. As such, it isn't surprising he follows orders. But he still has enough backbone to defy them when he feels they threaten Hawke cross the line.

I have a question for anyone: what is Cullen's age in DA2??? I need an idea of his age for fic. Anybody have a clue? (I googled and found nothing)

Nobody knows. I just assumed he was about 20 in Origins because of his "This is all new to me" line. Unless he wasn't talking about templarhood but more specifically being in a Circle. I dunno.

That's what I was afraid of. *cries* That means I might have to make it up.

Oh well, thanks anyway!

I really hope he is  an LI in DA3. I really need to do an Amell playthrough of Origins to import into DA2...

Ah, love this one. Hmm, never noticed how really sad his eyes are. Pobrecito.

Yeah, in each of my playthroughs Cullen was increasingly friendly and supportive of my Hawke, and seemed to truly reflect on the strange Kirkwall goings on with the templars. Those were diplomatic and sarcastic playthroughs, with all classes. Never saw him get unfriendly with me, and every time he sides with me at the end.  Hence my oasis of reasonable.

@Gala - thanks for the heads up on the letters. Never saw those! Will have to go back through my saves.

I may have found it, under Lore in the codex. Could it be called Mage Underground ?

If it helps, in my fic, since he was senior enough to be chosen to stand guard at a Harrowing, I placed him older than the Warden and Alistair.  But younger than Zevran, who I assumed was upper 20s.  So... 24-25?

Yes, I misspelled it, because I was thinking of Uldred's rebellion. Sorry. Of course it's Mage Underground.

I already have a femSurana.  But I'd like to make a femAmell simply for the family connection, not because of Cullen's crush. ;)

That makes the most sense to me. Alistair was in his early 20s (at least it seemed like it to me), and he wasn't a full fledged Templar yet. Though he wasn't far off. If Cullen was a fairly new templar, I'd assume he'd be in the range of 21-24. It really depends on how old you want to make the Warden.

I had a femAmell playthrough, which I'll probably import into a fem Hawke mage. :P

In my fancomic I made Cullen 25 when the warden left the Circle, gave her 1 year and a half to stop the Blight and deal with the Mother, and I think by the time Anders will blow up the *place*, Cullen will be about 33.

I like that age too. Doesn't make as much sense to make him super young. Older men are better anyway. :o

Wish devs would clear up things like character ages. That's annoying not knowing.

Def. agreed. I will be very, very sad if there is no more (substantial) Cullen parts in the DLC and (preferably) DA3.

Aw, come on, you know Cullen just wanted to finally have the chance to watch Hawke. (like he did Amell)
