So, 49 pages. Shall we celebrate the 50 page somehow? With prompts, rain of awesome screenshots or trying to guess what happened to Cullen after the Last Straw?

Gala, I agree with the theory that Cullen isn't around for Cassandra to question. I'm pretty sure he's off being a companion to the PC of DA3.
R2, LOL @ the Circle meets Lost. I think it would have to have Flemeth.
Todd23, you won't find any Cullen hate in this thread. We don't want to dead him, we just want to bed him! :innocent:

As for prompts... I've got enough on my plate; however, I did manage to write a whole, reasonable chapter for my Cullen fic yesterday. *laughs* Maybe I already had this in mind...

This is something I've really been thinking about, too. Cassandra hasn't talked to anyone who was really there before Varric. If Cullen were happily toodling along as Knight-Captain or even Knight-Commander, she would likely have talked to him first. Or had read his official report on it already. So I've figured he either: quit the Templars, in protest or rebellion for the Order no longer standing for what he believes "being a templar is about", or was fired/imprisoned due to his insubordination. In all cases, I agree -- being a templar is his life; but the official position of the Order may no longer fit with his philosophy. So, for all these reasons, I think he's likely not a steadily employed Templar any more, whether he wants to be or not.Galagraphia wrote...
As much as I want it, I doubt Cullen would quit the templars. Not after his line: "That's what being a templar is about". The way he says it leaves no doubt that the order is his life. But from the way Cassandra speaks with Varric I got the impression that she didn't talk to Cullen. She seemed so surprised that Meredith was "the one to blame". I think interrogating a templar who opposed his commander would be the first thing to do, but she didn't do it. Does it mean she couldn't find Cullen? Or nobody believed him when he said Meredith was mad and sort of possessed? What if Chantry arrested him for insubordination? Or maybe he was one of those templars who rebelled against the Chantry? Because we all know initially the Maker's knights didn't follow the orders of the clergy and weren't controlled by lyrium. Cullen could join the rebellion to restore the Order's old glory.
The notion that Cassandra would likely track down Cullen after talking to Varric, for his own interrogation, conjured up a whole plot bunny for me that actually got me writing for the first time... But, the timing is weird. Cassandra isn't looking into any of this for three whole years after it happened. Could Cullen be languishing in prison this whole time? Or, is he off in the woods somewhere protecting mages his own way (hence my mage-templar happy commune idea)? Has he settled down in Ferelden for some farming with some wife and fat happy children (NOOOOOO!!!!)? Is he organizing a templar rebellion?
I was thinking of ways that Cullen could be a companion in DA3, so my crazy thought was that Cassandra+Leliana track him down and somehow coerce him into finding and joining up with Hawke (like, he can rejoin the order, or reshape the Order or something as his reward). But as their Chantry/Seeker spy on some BIG DAMN MISSION. So, he has all sorts of fun angst about being an ex-Templar, not being truthful with Hawke, maybe all this feeding into him be a LI.

So... not to rehash anything, but do we know how he ended up in Kirkwall? For certain?

Congrats! I thought it said in his DA2 codex that they decided to reassign him to Kirkwall because he was too harsh on Ferelden's mages but, erm, harsh enough for Kirkwall's. Don't really know the details, though.Sialater wrote...

After Cullen returned to his duties, it became clear that he would go
to any lengths to enforce the Chantry's rule. His zeal troubled
Knight-Commander Greagoir, who feared it unwise to let Cullen watch over
the men and women he deemed responsible for his torment.
Greagoir sent Cullen to serve under Knight-commander Meredith in
Kirkwall, and Meredith found Cullen's view of mages similar to her own.

I've finally bitten the bullet and started my own Cullen fic that takes
place after Last Straw (with Bekkael's kind encouragement), so I'm
curious to hear all these ideas!!
Hooray! I love all your theories, so I would be tickled to read any fic that emerged from such ruminations.

Congratulations on finishing your story! That's a bittersweet feeling, isn't it? I haven't done a ton of chapter stories, and never a long fic, but I'm always happy anytime I complete a tale. (Especially if people actually like reading it LOL.) Sometimes, I think I just write for myself, but that's not always a bad thing either.
So, your version of Cullen? *excite* Will this be paired w/F!Hawke, or ??, or just DA2 seen through the eyes of a chaste Cullen? Regardless, more Cullen love is welcomed with great enthusiasm. <3

BUT, I can get him to Kirkwall in my AU, and even involve Greagoir. As far as chaste? I don't know. I'd be telling Margaret Hawke's story and she's got a thing for the rebellious apostate and love/hate thing going on with the ex-Tevinter slave. No idea where Cullen would work into that mess. Or even if he's 100% over my Warden yet.

But there will be an epilogue about what's happened to Cullen after Hawke sided with mages, killed Meredith and escaped, leaving Cullen to deal with the Epic Mess she started.

My main Cullen story is an AU as well, but he is very firmly paired with my innocent (?) Marian Hawke. It started as a oneshot, which tends to be my specialty, but then it, um, grew.
I also have an Anders/Hawke AU underway which time travels back to Awakening timeline, because I freaking hate the whole screwed up Janders thing, and the revisionist in me can't leave it alone.
All the writing has left me little time for reading though. I hope to catch up on all the great fics out there when the muse stops riding me so hard.
Edit: Gala, that all sounds awesome, and especially the part about Carver. I ship him like nobody's business! <3

I uh... can't seem to conceive of a sweet, innocent Hawke. Even my "good girl" is a hardass. LOL So, I don't know of a Hawke Cullen would mesh with.
Well, if you read mine, read the ff.net version. The BSN version can more accurately be called the rough draft.

@Sia - I love that your Cullen is a warden. Hmm, I wonder... is that one way to get him off the junk (lyrium)? I'll have to check it out!
@Gala - yay, more Obsession! I look forward to your epilogue. You've raised some interesting points I keep coming back to... like why the heck didn't anyone at the Chantry know what happened in Kirkwall? And, Carver and Cullen as bros is such a cool idea.
@Bekk- yay, more Twisted! Can't wait to see how he reacts to learning she's a mage. *gulp* Prep fireworks.
Jeesh... are we getting close to page 50? That would be cool since today's my birthday.

Which begs the question, COULD a Warden become lyrium addicted?

My Hawke isn't really innocent, not in mind, anyway, she was just a virgin before she got together with him. Also, I don't write a totally innocent Cullen. When he and my Hawke stumbled on each other, she was a virgin but he wasn't! I never explained that in my story, but in my head I imagine when he went all psycho in Ferelden, he made a trip or two to the brothel for stress relief, and to purge those images of Amell.
Well, if you read mine, read the ff.net version. The BSN version can more accurately be called the rough draft.
I do all my reading on that site (and the DA kink meme on LJ), so when I get around to it, it will be there.
R2, yeah, if I read other people's take of a character I'm trying to write too, it can screw me up. I'm okay reading a few mini fics or one-shots, but I can't read a long story without it infecting my brain. Someone on the kmeme is currently writing a cruel, demented Cullen, and it makes me weep! I won't be reading much more fanfic of Cullen until I'm done playing with him. Which might be, I dunno, never?
More Twisted...eh, we shall see. I'm really ashamed at how long it's been since I updated. The muse is a cruel and fickle mistress, it seems.

I still think his name doesn't say "team templar" as much as it sais "team edward".
Cullen \\c(ul)-len\\ as a boy's name is pronounced KULL-en. It is of Irish and Gaelic origin, and the meaning of Cullen is "good-looking lad; handsome".
Seems appropriate to me
Well done Cullen fanciers - scooting along nicely to 50.

I rather prefer FF.net for reading and although I do post on DA and AO3, I do frequent the kinkmeme for prompts and a few fills... MTA is a prompt-fill of mine and I've even prompted a Cullen-fill as well, which is currently being written and posted bit by bit by a lovely anon, much to my pleasure.

FFN is my fav site. I'm just spoiled by how user-friendly it is. I've been devouring fic there for years!
You prompted Cullen? *clears throat* I'm doing a Cullen fill on kmeme, at present, called The One.
I just ate chocolate after posting that pic. Ah, the power of suggestion!

And I still want chocolate... *wonders where she could find some decent chocolate chip cookies at the moment while she grumbles about More Than Addiction, the setting taking away from the story* Being a writer is frustrating, but some times you need boring chapters to make way for action... and for the love of the Maker, why can't I type properly or correctly?

If dear, sweet OP *snicker* would like to elaborate on what direction I should take that would be pleasing? I would be oh, so happy to comply. I don't want to bugger it up further or write something you don't like, as that would make me a sad panda. (Which I got the feeling I already did, sorry!).

Besides, I like the concept of fighting in the Fade and a chance meeting - an interesting tale to be told. And let's be honest, you're a wonderful writer.
If you've read More Than Addiction, I'm certain I'm not quite going where the OP wanted, giving it more of story rather than an easy one-shot that would have sufficed - sometimes, you need to take the time to tell the story.
Sent you a friend-request on FB if you want to chat - I don't really have any particular expectations for the fill beyond some down-to-earth, earth shakin' Cullen lovin' and some realization that maybe not all mages are bad and that he' doesn't always have to be a templar day in and day out, that there's more to life than duty.
