@R2, aww, now I kinda want to marry Sebastian. Really, not in the separate beds way.  (chantry boys are my weakness)

And for the top (because I will never get tired of this picture by PolymorphicGirl):

@Gala - Chantry boys are my weakness, too...  <3

@R2 - *hugs* Thanks... we'll get a taste maybe next chapter... *shrugs* As a whole, I keep messing with it, editing constantly, but I think I've got it mostly down save for a few issues. I've note planned out to the very end plus the option of a sequel or just an epilogue. I'd liken it to a rollercoaster, there are going to be high points and there will be some very low points. At any rate, I had a good prompt to work with it... except I've run away with it. :P

Sooo... got inspired to write Kiss Prompt Part 2,a fluffy follow-up to my short scene from above. It's a bit long, and the set up isn't that original, <insert extra self-flaggelation here>, but since it's done (and thinking of Seb and Cullen being friends was fun...), I thought I would share. Happy Page 50, Cullen!

Sebastian had almost finished speaking the Chant when he saw Knight-Captain Cullen sitting in the last row, in a shadowed pew. Normally a devout Andrastian, Cullen seemed oblivious to the Chant today, eyes lost in the distance.

When Sebastian had thanked the last parishioners, he approached Cullen who still had not moved to leave. Sebastian slid in to the pew beside him, and sat, hands clasped, in silence for a moment.

“Your thoughts are distant today, Knight-Captain.”

Cullen’s eyes finally focused, darting toward Sebastian. He sighed, brow furrowed. “Indeed. My… heart is troubled today,” Cullen replied.

Sebastian took a chance, saying, “Might this have to do with a certain… Champion and an… unexpected kiss today?”

Cullen immediately blushed, signaling that Sebastian had guessed right. “You, um, heard about that?” he said nervously.

“Aye, but I heard nothing shameful that should send you to the Chantry searching for answers. Or… forgiveness.”

Cullen let out an explosive sigh. “I didn’t start it, but… I’m ashamed that I wanted to… finish it.”

“Is a kiss so impure? You’ve taken no vow of celibacy. If you truly care for Hawke, then it is not sinful.”

“I’m a templar, she’s a mage…”

“She is not under your direct care at the Tower, so it is not fraternization.” After a beat, Sebastian began to softly quote the Chant:

Magic exists to serve man, and never to rule over him.
Foul and corrupt are they
Who have taken His gift
And turned it against His children.
They shall be named Maleficar, accursed ones
.

“You know, Andraste was really speaking about Maleficarum, those who would turn their magic against the Maker’s children. Not all mages. I think people tend to forget that,” he ended in a thoughtful voice.

Cullen seemed to consider this, but did not answer.

Perhaps a bit too casually, Sebastian said, “If it’s absolution you are seeking, my friend, than you can have it. If it would unburden your conscience, you may do penance here at the Chantry. Some rose bushes in the garden need planting. Physical labor might do you good.”

Sebastian waited for Cullen to head toward the garden before he started racing up to the balcony. On his way, he ran into Isabela.

“Ugh, can you please tell me where to find Hawke?” she said in exasperation. “Varric told me she was here, though I cannot fathom why…”

Sebastian motioned for her to follow, then ran the rest of the way up the steps. They stepped out on to the broad Chantry balcony that overlooked the garden.

“Seek and ye shall find,” Sebastian murmured, eyes trained on the scene below.

They saw Hawke digging furiously in the garden. She had discarded her usual robes and was wearing nothing but a thin chemise and sleek trousers as she toiled under the hot Kirkwall sun. She paused for a moment to wipe the back of her hand across her forehead, and then reached for the rose bushes waiting to be planted. Even at this distance they heard her curse loudly, and then saw her shake her hand and stick an abused finger in her mouth.  Hawke turned to throw her shovel away in frustration, and then suddenly froze.

Isabela and Sebastian turned their heads to see Cullen standing a few yards away from Hawke, similarly frozen in place. The mage and templar stood there dumbstruck for several minutes, until Cullen tentatively started forward.

When he reached Hawke, he said something they couldn’t hear and then gently took the hand she had just pricked on the roses. Hawke went perfectly still, watching him with a bemused smile on her face, as he tenderly kissed her wounded finger and then her palm. And then the inside of her wrist. Still holding her hand, he started to very slowly lean in toward her lips. Never one to be patient, Hawke quickly closed the distance, throwing her arms around his neck with enthusiasm.

Smiling, Sebastian watched the couple for a few more minutes and began to wonder when they might need to come up for air.

Isabela chuckled, and said to Sebastian accusingly, “This is your doing, isn’t it?”

Sebastian only gave her a wink and said, “That’s me. I’m a helper.”

Ah, I love it. And I can certainly see Seb and Cullen being friends

Interesting. I was going through act 1, and after I let Grace and her friends go and told Karras that they are dead, Cullen said that he regrets that they had to die.

And I began to wonder. Many people say Cullen is a bad person because he never did anything to stop other templars and Meredith. What if he did? What if things could have been much worse without templars like him, Thrask, Carver? It's clear that Cullen doesn't want to kill the mages. Even in the first act, when he's still traumatized.

New to the forums. I'm Jess, or Vae, or Vaeya... XD Relatively new to the games too. I've only started playing them about a month ago but already played through DA 2 twice and DA O twice. XD I'm hopelessly obsessed with Cullen. TwT He is so awesome... To be honest, I like him better than Alistair. Anyway, back to what I was going to say. :D

I totally agree with you. I don't think he was a bad person. He was a strict Templar, and even after his trauma, he wasn't as bad as Meredith, Karras or Alrick etc etc. Seriously, he deserves some credit for that! XD Though then again, we're all highly biased. XD Pffft.

I also want to admit that I read through this entire forum. Haha! XD You guys are my heros, such witty statements or discussions. Love it. :D I can't wait to participate in the community of Cullen-lovers. XD Yay! I also have a few ideas for one-shots or fics, possibly. But I'm a finicky writer, my muse comes and goes so quickly. XD

R2, thanks for bringing the moar. Sebastian was awesome. I <3 him in fanfic, but I detest him in the game. Strange, eh?

Welcome Jess/Vaeya! I'm Rebekah, and I guess we share obsessions, as I read through the whole board too before I posted the first time. I'm a little embarrassed to admit how many time I've finished DA:O and DA2. We're all addicts here; you're in good company.

As for me, I've had a lousy couple of days. It's back-to-school time here, and all the guff that goes along with it. <_< F.M.L. My muse is also being unusually difficult, and in a rare fit of pique, I came very close to going in and deleting everything off my FFN account, because everything I write just reads like pure rubbish (to me) and it aggravates me. I've never been so close to a deleting frenzy. Stupid hormones of evil. :?

Now that I've impressed everyone with my sunny disposition, I shall slink away like a thief in the night! :bandit:

Many thanks! I agree... enjoyed the notion of them as friends. Decided I need to add that in to my other fic... once they get past the jealousy thing. d'oh!

Hmm, that is nice to know. I haven't heard that one, but you know, it doesn't surprise me. Even when he's talking about tranquility and such (although I don't recall what act that is... prob Act 2), he has a very humane approach to mages.

He did do something to stop the templars and Meredith ...  he helped kill her, alot. :D But, indeed it would be preferable to think he'd been doing something all along.  I could see it, since he says such reasonable things... but then he also talks about them not being people... I just always get concerned about that codex entry that says he got promoted because his views are so much like Meredith's. Eeek!

@Sialater - I prefer that interpretation... EDIT: Or, even that it's Meredith who assumes their views are similar, not necessarily that it is the truth. I'm sure his devotion to duty could seem to her as fanatical as her own.

I do love Cullen, but I get confused with his personality. While in the beggining of the game he does says how he hate all mages and think they should be locked up for life (wich is okay, considering what happened to him in DA:O) he shows a lot more of sympathy toward mages in the rest of the game.

Eh, idk.

Well given that it is roughly one year after he was physically and mentally tortured by Uldred, when he says that, I think we can cut him a little slack for being not particularly in a good state of mind when he said it.

Presumably the rest of the game and being in Kirkwall managed to temper him back to being more tolerant towards Mages.

Awwww, R2, you always know who can kiss my boo-boos better. <3 I slapped the hormones of evil, and put them in the closet for a timeout.

A question for any knowledgeable Cullenite: Do we have any information about Cullen's background and upbringing before coming to the Circle in Ferelden, or is it all pretty much assumption and hearsay?

I've given him a made-up history, once or twice, but it would be nice to know if he has any sort of "canon" past.

(I always assumed he didn't which is why I make stuff up. )

Oh my gosh, Bekkael... don't do that! I love all your fics... they're so epic. XD And I don't think Cullen has any solid background, except that he is a Templar and most likely from a religious family or given to the Chantry. I've heard a lot that he was an orphan, but then again, that can just be people drawing their own ideas etc.

...One of the reasons I really really hope he is a companion/LI in DA 3. TwT To get a backstory AND just because he is awesomesauce. XD

Quick newbie question. o__o I've done the character creator for Origins and such. Is there any way I can make that my avatar..? I can't seem to figure this place out. Took me two days to figure out why I couldn't post here. LOL. XD *fail*

@Vaeya, welcome to our friendly thread! :)

@Dhiro, he doesn't say that he hates mages. He only says that they must be watched, because in Ferelden he saw what happens if templars are not vigilant enough. And he's against killing them. He accepts it only as an act of mercy, when a mage turns into an abomination. As the screenshot above proves, he doesn't want mages dead even in act 1, when he's still not fully recovered after Uldred's rebellion. Which makes me hope he'll be among those people who don't want the war in the end, like Cassandra.

@Bekkael, I couldn't find anything about his past. But I noticed that he doesn't have a family name, like ser Alrik, or Meredith. So I assumed he was an orphan. I also believe that he was raised in the Chantry, because 1) he's a very pious and loyal andrastian, 2) he seems like he's not very experienced in mundane things, like if he had a pretty secluded life. He's definitely more shy than Alistair, who had 10 years of normal life before the order. But then Cullen seems more responsible than Alistair, even in Origins he was ready to make decisions while Ali prefered to let the Warden decide everything. Actually it amazes me. In Origins I had the impression that all templars are terribly brainwashed, because they must obey the orders without questions. But I guess they are not some sort of Chantry zombies, it's just discipline. Anyway, back to subject, I think Cullen was sort of raised to be a templar since he was very young. Maybe one of us should PM Jennifer Hepler and ask? Or maybe Sheryl Chee (I think she wrote Cullen in Origins). Because I think devs don't read our tread. (It's a shame, we don't only post shirtless pictures and squee here, you know! We also dig into the lore!)

I agree with Galgraphia about Cullen's past... then again, her comic has been one of the things most responsible for making me like Cullen, so I guess that's not surprising.

I'd also recommend Fledgelings, a really cute fic about Cullen and Alistair meeting during their templar training.

Together, those two pieces have pretty much established my headcanon for Cullen.

Thank you, I promise I'll try to behave. :) Yeah, I really want a backstory too, badly. Also, Captain Awesomesauce is one of his formal titles, only for use on special occasions.

Wow, I can't believe how much I like the idea of him being a soldier before becoming a templar. I like the thought of him having a range of experiences before he joined the Order. *strokes chin thoughtfully* If you find the source, I would love to read about it! (If you made it up, then I salute you.)

Those are all very good points to support Cullen as being Chantry-raised. That would be great if you PM'd one of his writers for more info. Yeah, we are definitely not the darlings on the boards. Not even one itty bitty post or acknowledgement from the devs of our fan dedication to Cullen. :crying: It makes me feel like the awkward country cousin. Perhaps eventually, our unrelenting devotion will sway them? Let's hope they at least take note of his growing fanbase. We're doing all we can to spread the love for him all over the interwebz!

@CulturalGeekGirl, aww, you make me blush terribly! And thanks for the link, that story is so adorable! I like to think Alistair and Cullen met before. It could happen. Ferelden is not very big and was hit by the war and occupation hard, so I believe there couldn't have been many monasteries, capable of training the best warriors in the country. It requires too much resourses.

@Bekkael, well, devs ignored our first Anders thread as well. I mean, they didn't post there anything. But there are things in DAII that look like they were taken from our prompts. Like Anders' dirty spellbook! So, maybe they read something secretly :)
(Actually I'm scared to PM them. They are writers, they will hate me if I misspell or make a grammatical mistake, and I do that a lot.)

@Gala - *hugs* It's the thought that counts... but I'm the same way with the regard, too afraid of making a fool of myself.

Any road, I think I'll make up a "Support Cullen" banner for my signature... later, though. Too busy working on my canon playthrough. Mages - 2, Templars - 2 at the moment. Trying to get Mages - 4, Templars - 3 by the end game when I reluctantly side with the templars.
