Yes, I think it has to be something other than Hawke being a mage.   He's so much more self-assured and balanced in his views in DA2 that I don't think even falling for a mage would unsettle him as deeply as it did when he was younger.

I wouldn't want him to go insane either.   I'd like the romance to be dark, but I'd like a happy ending.

He does look good, doesn't he?  He seems to have drawn a longer straw in the looks department over some of the other original characters (Alistair, I'm looking at you).   He's had so much love that I wonder if he's being set up for some DLC?  I do hope so.

But, well, one day Alistair and Warden will go to the Deep Roads, Leliana will join Seekers, Zevran will become a crow hunter, Anders will bite off Hawke's head. It's better to enjoy the fun of romance than to think of grim future, I guess.

Well I know he has an addiction, and it could make for an interesting plot actually. I just hope they dont add to much drama on top of that.

Me too, a little dark but with a potential for at least a partially happy ending.
Alistair looks like he has had botox or something, not so nice. I wouldnt be suprised if Cullen is being set up for something. A DLC or even a companion for the next game.  Hopefully he gets to keep his VA no matter what happens.

I don't know what it is about Bioware games that causes me to create PCs that want to hump everything that moves.  It reveals a rather alarming side of myself.

But...but...he's really good looking this time around!  And less crazy!  

I didn't really care for him in the first game, and though I felt sorry for him when I read the epilogue, and wished there was some way to talk to him after the Circle tower, I wasn't swooning over Cullen.  This time around, he's definitely set up as more heroic, and reasonable...which is easy, when most everybody in Kirkwall is crazy, but still!  I really do hope that we see more of him in the next game, if not DLC.

I'm rather fond of Cullen. But I'm pretty sure my characters would beat him with the Banhammer of Mage Liberation.

Cullen is awesome. I vote for LI in expansion pack or DA3.

And I agree. He is less crazy here, if in fact more reasonable.

I completely agree. I would love a morally or ethically conflicted Cullen. As long as he doesn't blow up a Circle or something.

I would love to see more of Cullen. He intrigued me in DAO, and I talked to him every chance I got in DA2, hoping to get him on my side. He'd had a bad experience in DAO, but I thought he could be brought round to liking mages. All it takes is a good one, right? The Lyrium addiction would indeed be an interesting story angle.

I like Anders' voice in DA2 as well. I found him slightly more annoying in DAO, actually. He's a little sexier as a revolutionary.

I couldn't agree more with the OP. I love Cullen! His character showed so much growth. He was adorable during origins, minus the "kill all mages" part, and he's totally hot now.

As of right now, I don't love Cullen, but I will say that I'm kind of glad that the writers decided to ignore the DA:O epilogue cards for him (especially the one where he runs off into the wilderness to become a serial killer).

He was much more interesting as a creepy crackpot.  As it is, he's just templar #1281.

Hawke already has plenty of love interests, if Cullen were to be a love interest, I would hope it would be in a game where there is a new player character so Hawke wouldn't have to leave Anders / Fenris / Isabella / Merril if he is already in a relationship with one of them!

I'd like him as an LI for my poor, poor Hawke who rival-manced Anders and ended up having to kill him.  They could bond over what it's like to fall in love with whacky mages.
