I guess this really depends on your definition of an "enemy," and if templars and mages, by their very nature, must necessarily be enemies. I personally don't think so. In Cullen's case, for example, he specifically supports allowing mages to surrender at the end (so arguably acting in a non-enemy-like way), because he "believe[s] that's what being a templar is about."

Will he fight on the templar side of the current war?

Again, I think here we need to define what the continuum is upon which he is a hardliner. Going from Alrik & Karras to Thrask & Keran, I would say Cullen is in the middle. (I would argue that we don't actually know where Wilmod and the 3 recruits really stand, but that is neither here nor there). Does Cullen believe there should be a Circle? Absolutely. But, should the whole Circle be Annulled in Kirkwall? Cullen would, and does, say no.

Cullen is a hardliner of Chantry policy, not an extralegally sadistic murderer like those other two.

I think we have no idea. Especially since it's not clear there is only one templar side to the war. It seems there are templars still loyal to the Chantry and templars who have split.  This is something I'm very curious about.

edit for top-ish: Cullen gets forceful

It's impossible to tell right now because none of us have access to the notes of writers. The possibilities are more than a dozen. Arguing or assumptioning based on things that are themselve scompletely uncertain is not going to get us to anywhere, IMO.

At this moment, all we know is that what happened at the Gallows changed the views of people of Thedas... for better or worse. :)

Cullen's a fair-weather friend at best, and likely an enemy after his convenient killing of his commander finishes up.

Well, we won't really know where Cullen stands until we get his (promised by Jennifer Hepler) post-Act3 conclusion. But I think the fact that, after Meredith is defeated, he chooses to let Hawke go in either ending suggests otherwise. I personally think it's an evolution of his character as opposed to flip-flopping.

On another topic: Can anyone tell me when/where we find out that Meredith had already requested the Right of Annulment, but went around Elthina to do so...? I've been looking around the wiki to find something definitive, and failing. Thanks in advance!!

That is easy, go to the Gallows often. Always right click on Karras, Cullen and Thrask (Templar recruits too). Regardless of no sign above their heads, they will each say a sentence on what is going on at the moment. In Act 3, Karras and Cullen talk about RoA at the beginning of the act. Cullen is more clear on the matter.

I don't know if everyone can get the info. At the beginning of the game I tell Cullen that I support the Templar, and get that nice extra Cullen cutscene Posted Image. Then after that, they talk to me.

Go often because what Cullen says changes very quickly and seems to be linked to quests.

Which nice extra cutscene?D:

Also, you always get the RoA reference no matter whom you side with in Act III. If they don't say it straight away, just go on abusing them by the power of right click.

Ok, you say that you side with the Templar, then Cullen says that he is glad that you do, and you get a mini scene of him showing you the Gallows. Nice scene too, good for screenshots, sadly I wasn't expecting it to happen so didn't get a shot. I will retry tomorrow if I get that far in my latest playthrough.

A smile.

Oh, that one? You get it no matter what option you choose. I always say that mages and Templars should try to find a better way, and the next time I talk to him, just ask if he feels like he's achieving anything. Then that cutscene about "the image of a poor chained apprentice..." resumes. :>

Ah, thanks! I had been thinking it was in a dialogue somewhere but couldn't remember. Darnit.. I talk to them all so much that in most of my saves I just get the standard "I hope the Order can count your support ,Champion." But finally found Karras tell me that she had sent to Val Royeaux for the RoA. Yay.

Does anyone also comment explicitly on how she's going around Elthina, or is that just implied by the Val R. part?

Early act 3: Sebastian says that Meredith has stopped listening to Elthina. Read not accepting orders.
Soon after that we hear that Meredith has asked for RoA direct from the Divine from Cullen and Karras.
Leliana seems to suggest that Merediths words have been taken to heart by the Divine because she won't listen to our suggestions to take care of matters ourselves.

That is basically the skeleton of it, as Merediths madness goes downhill from there.

Lol. Someone should turn that into a signature. Anyone with Photoshop skills willing to that, or should I take up the shield myself when I'm less busy?

My take on the post-Act 3 sympathies of Cullen - I can't see him siding with the mages in a rebellion. He is considered a moderate but bottom line is he is a Templar. If there is a middle ground for Templars between "kill all mages" and "let the mages run free", that's where we'll find him.

But as has been said, nothing is certain with Bioware writers. If Cullen is in DA3 we're just as likely to find out he's secretly been a mage all along and this is all part of his evil plan to build a new Imperium. (If they use that idea btw I want royalties).

I think you guys are both referring to this scene, and yeah, that particular cut scene plays no matter what you say to Cullen on the "right side" dialogues, he just front-loads it differently.

@JIF, thanks so much. Drat, gonna have to go see if I can find some vids or dialogue of all that...

Now I'm wondering why this scene only played for me the last playthrough...11 playthroughs and nada at that point.
12th playthrough and I get the cutscene. I honestly thought it might have been a Legacy add on, like some of the new Sebastian scenes. It may simply be I've got a screwed flag somewhere from my many mods. Ouch, what a headache.

Thanks for letting me know.

A pleasure John - I love doing sigs :)

I just finished off a run I'd started in April...not sure why I stopped halfway through Act 3 but eh, its done now. Took me ages to figure out who I'd romanced and who liked me and how to play the darn char.

I'd forgotten that we don't actually kill Meredith - she pretty much self destructs...poor pet. Anyway, I caught this shot and it tickled my fancy.

Cullen: "Women, chasing me? Chasing...me? Ah. Oh. Where's an abomination when you need one?"

Ahem, so.... Avilia.... while it seems you are in a clever and artsy mood... what would you say to a "Make love, not holy smite" sig banner...? My own skills are rudimentary at best. :D:whistle:
