The point of Tranquality is removing the infulence of blood mages or insane mages that are hostile/seek evil power/dominant over mortals, bringing havoc into the world, etc. Think of Grace 'Revenge loltrollface'! Or Torahne 'doubletrollface'... Should such mages be left uncontrolled? No the result would be worse than the Imperial.

Now if you had to choose between killing them, or changing them in a way so they could do great services to the community(like enchanting items and creating powerful potions), which one would you choose? Tranquality is a death sentence with multiple benefits for the society. Abusing Tranquality however, is monstrous and horrible.

That's true, love, but in those specific cases, I like to imagine what drove that character to act in that manner. Are they truly just evil at their core, or (As Anders intimates) do they feel like their backs are to the wall and they have no other recourse but to "fight dirty"?

If they pass their harrowing and then turn to evil, execute them. Why tranquil criminal mages? If a mage is tranquiled on the mere possibility that they may someday turn to a demon, well, I really can't see justification for that. Any non-mage might turn into a serial killer too, but you don't cut off their arms "just in case", ya know?

I'm for compromise, but I'm not for any drastic action on the part of templars unless it's warranted.

(I've actually chosen to try to explore Tarohne's personality and past to imagine how she might have become what we see in game. Bad guys don't always start out that way...)

Cullen pic because we need more love. <3

I'd say the only Tranquility allowed should be voluntary, and if the Circle really needs more enchanting done, they can hire dwarves.

I support this. If a mage is asking for it (it still seems so barbaric, but whatever), that's different. If a mage has gone to the demons, just kill them, don't tranquil them. That's seems...wrong.

Perhaps if they showed what was being done behind the scene to make a mage tranquil, I wouldn't have agreed with it at all.

Edited to remove a part of post because it contained Mass Effect spoilers.

That final fight against *EDITED FOR SPOILERS* still gives my poor Shep nightmares. And she had no Kaidan there to comfort her! :crying: Made me feel like this (skip to 4:31)

/off topic

Sorry for the off topic-ness, but...

When does Kaidan say that?XS I admit that he was never in my party. I usually had Liara and Garrus with me.

Honestly, I have NO idea. Been a while since I played the first  ME. That was a renegade, pro-human playthrough vid that was posted, so...?

He was ALWAYS in my party because I wub him. <3 Also, because I never played as a biotic, so I needed one and preferred him to Liara, I also always had Garrus, he's my awesome BFF. I'm one of the extremely pissed off types that Kaidan was only in ME2 long enough to snarl and throw hate at Shep. :( I stayed faithful (because I'm true-blue like that!) and can't wait to pick back up with him in ME3.

I totally suck balls at shooters and never play them (they're my ex-military hubby's thing), but ME is my exception. :wizard:

I think it's when Udina forbids Normandy to fly to Ilos in the end.

Back to Cullen: I couldn't go on with my comic and went to the happy AU where Cullen has a wife and a kid, and almost happy =]  (because I just can't make characters 100% happy). I will continue my comic in september anyway, but it's hard to write all that now.

Ugh, me too. Unfortunately, tried both ME and ME2 when got the second for free a few months ago... and found that even third-person shooter is too wobbly a perspective for me. After too many days with motion sickness, I had to give up on my dream of romancing Kaidan. *sigh*

So, Cullen still gets all my love. LOL

Gala love the idea of Cullen all husband-y. I read a cute kmeme fill like that about wishes being fishes recently (was it even called Fishes?). Of course, I'll probably find out someone on this thread actually wrote that but it was so darn cute. :D

When Kaidan says: "You bastard!" (see vid link above)

Gala, there is no 100% happiness, of course, but I can't bear to write a story that makes unhappy Cullen. Although, I'm fulling willing to hurt him a little along the way. He's already had so many difficulties. He deserves some rainbows and cuddles.

Gala's right, it's the Udina lock down line. Happens whether he's paragonned or renegaded.

And now, back to your regularly scheduled Cullen.

*giggles uncontrollably* You have to see my husband shake his head at me when I try to play ME. I spray semi-automatic gunfire EVERYWHERE and still hit almost nothing! My 16 year-old son also facepalms with the "my mom sucks" face. He did the final battle for me on my second playthrough of ME2...I couldn't take the stress of trying to keep everyone alive. Ah well. I'm just better with swords.

I read the Fishes story too. It was cute and very fluffy. I have no idea who wrote it. Interesting with Cullen as a gardener. A shirtless, sweaty Cullen digging in the dirt? Yes, please!

Don't let your son facepalm. Use the Cain and nuke the boss to death. :> Although, the most hilarious moment of my ME 2 playthrough was produced using that tactic. I charged the weapon and the moment I released the trigger, Harbinger popped in front of Shepard and took the shot to the head, standing barely a feet away. Everyone in the room died except for the Terminator. ><

Back to Cullen - I took this screenshot a while ago. There's just so much fail in it I don't know what to begin with. I guess 'Cullen pensively chewing on his shield' will have to do:

lmao that's exactly what it looks like:

"I can't see the demons. If I don't turn around they're not there. I can't see them."

On an ME note...I can't use the Cain - its function and use puzzle me. I stick to the Collector beam for my heavy weapon. I'm a noob I know (and I come from a FPS heavy gaming background...)

I think the part that mostly botherd me was his sword, going through his own body... *shudders*

On Cain - It should be at least on 100% (ammo capacity) before you can charge it . Just aim, hold the trigger, (watch cool animation) and DOCK! If you're not behind a solid cover, you'll be nuked along with the environment as well. (This I learned the hard way)

The Rite of Annulment confuses me.  I was under the impression in Origins that they 'couldn't' do it on a hallowed mage, not that they 'shouldn't'.  Probably me not reading codex's properly.

I've just run the magi origin again (no, not just to chat to Cullen...I like that first convo with Alistair as well "please stop looking at me like that.") and chatted to Owain.  Also the lovely mad Kieli in the Chantry.  I should go talk to the Tranquil in the camp at Ostagar too but I'm too lazy.

My feelings on the Rite?  I tend to the view that if used as intended its a safety measure for both mages and mundanes.

I would like to know if they 'expanded' the lore of the Rite for DA2.   The problem with discussing lore in DA2 is that there's so much inconsistency.  I mean, seriously, Grace hasn't been executed?  Does Thrask have the 'Holy shield of plotness' in his back pocket?

Thrask is another inconsistency imho but this isn't the place for me to air my grievences :P

You'll all be pleased to know my baby mage valiently resisted to urge to flirt with Cullen and thus send him running.  Its more fun to run past him during the opening quests and click as you go "You can talk to me anytime."

Oh that's all a bit disjointed isn't it...how unusual for me ^_^

He's a Blood Templar!!!  I knew it!!  That secret order of Templars that practice blood templaring.   It'll be a new class in DA3 I'll bet. :P

OMG, those are hilarious. What the heck?!?  And, he's really just standing there, while every one else is gearing up to fight. It's like a combo of his stand around with arms crossed look, but with sword and shield in hand.

Well, the Warrior class specializations certainly need to be changed for DA 3. Aside from the Templar tree, the rest are just 'meh'.

Earlier tonight, I created a warrior Hawke with the aim of doing a full playthrough in which Bethany is in the circle, Merrill doesn't shatter her mirror in the end, and also get the Mass Exodus achievement in the process. So far, gameplay of S&S has been boring - maybe it's because I've grown too much accustomed to Force mage and Assassin archer. Two-handed weapons are two manly for my taste... I miss my dual wielding warrior.

I'm probably going to use the save editor and add a couple of talent points. Maybe there are some interesting skills in the Vanguard tree.

Has anyone played a DPS S&S warrior? I can use some skill recommendations.

Back to Templar discussion - Does the codex state any differences between the Lyrium the Templars consume and the potions used by mages? I've seen people discussing the possibilities of having Cullen as a companion and the lyrium-drama that it would cause for him. But does it ever become a problem if he was with someone like Hawke or the next protagonist, who surely would have piles of potions?

Speaking of Lyrium and mana, the part that to some extent confused me was Templar Carver using his 'stamina' for spells. It would have made more sense lore-wise if the Templar specialization tree had a sustain ability which switched the stamina bar to a mana one for a short period of time.

I always two hand my warriors and yep agree, Templar is the only decent specialisation. I love Smiting the unholy (meaning anyone I'm fighting ;- ).

I can't offer Sword and Board advice I'm afraid - I don't like it in Bioware games, so I don't do it. Too slow for my liking..erm, not that I'm a DPS addict or anything.

I was actually thinking about the Lyrium issue myself (in relation to a fic I'm attempting to drag out of my brain and onto paper). How long does withdrawal take to set in? Can a Templar survive it without going mad? Is Lyrium like some drugs that require larger and larger doses to keep the effect?

I think Samson says something about 'the dust'. Perhaps Templars don't drink it but take it as a powder? Or perhaps dust is how the smugglers transport it?

So many questions without answers...

If it is possible to survive withdrawal then that would be a possible out. It could happen off screen and be done, or in its final stages, when the game starts.

Can anyone remember what exactly Rogek says to the Warden when he asks him/her to help smuggle the Lyrium from Dust Town to the Circle Tower?

At any rate, I don't think it's that difficult to find some 'appropraite' lyrium for a Templar companion should the need arise.

Five minutes on youtube and I answered some of my questions.  As usual due to bad memory and lack of attention on my part :

You tube linky

Its Godwin and not Rogek unfortunately but he does explain a bit about lyrium and Templars.  I knew I'd heard somewhere it required larger doses (probably more than one person says it but eh, I have the attention span of a...ooh shiny!)

My hunt continues....
