In DA:O, I actually liked all the companions. Sure Morrigan was mean, but under it she was thoughtful, sure Ohgren was annoying sometimes, but also funny others...
In DA2 they all annoyed me/my character at some points, which to me is much more in keeping with a 10 year friendship.

His distaste for slavery isn't based on any sort of "universal principle of freedom." I think his views on slavery and his support of keeping mages in check are compatible with one another if you examine the reasons behind them.
The real hypocritical one is Sebastian. "The Make let the magisters kill that boy for sport for a reason, Fenris. Oh, God, Elthina died, I'm going to burn Kirkwall to the ground!" He's just such a crybaby.

Come at me Crybaby. I'm sure you will succeed where the mighty Qunari failed.
What a ****.

Keep in mind, though, that for me choosing your most hated companion in a Bioware game is like picking out my least favorite piece of candy in a delicious box of chocolates. They all have some enjoyable merits.

He supports having mages in a Circle because he was oppressed, tortured and enslaved by a society of evil mages. He knows what some mages could be if left unwatched; like he says, he knows a mage!Hawke is strong, but not everyone is Hawke.
I think he does border on the hypocritical sometimes, but it's not like he doesn't have good reason. He's been abused by mages his whole life, culminating in a horrific ritual that destroyed his memory; like the poster above me said, I think his views are fairly compatible with one another.
ETA: I agree with everyone else. Sebastian was a snooze-fest. We really got him too late in the game for him to matter as much as the other companions.

Fenris supports what the templars do because he believes every mage is a evil and dangerous threat that is only capable of destruction. He paints them all the same color because of what he experienced in Tevinter and refuses to see anyone elses point of view. I know everyone doesn't have the same opinion as me but Fenris just rubs me the wrong way. Him constantly insulting and bringing down Merrill doesn't get him any points in my book either... the guy even had the nerve to call her a monster after Pol died and she was clearly distraught over it... I wanted to snap his neck. Alright I'll shut up about it already.ishmaeltheforsaken wrote...

Though Isabella annoys me by never staying by my side towards the end, but that's mostly my fault...

I'm frustrated at Merril for acting like a slowly developing infant and putting her hand on the stove over and over and over again even if grown-ups tell her not to. I kinda wanted to kill her after what happened with the Keeper but she is just so pathetic. Hope she learned her lesson.
I'm annoyed at Fenris for being a bit...bi-polar but at the same time it's highly amusing. At least he can make fun about his own attitude.
Isabela...the mandatory sex-on-your-face character. She seemed nice enough but the whole selfish, money-hungering thief thing is so overdone. She left my party before the Qunari war. Would've loved to release the Qunari on her for stealing the relic.
Sebastian...hardly worth taking note of. Shouldn't have bought the DLC.

I'm surprised how many people dislike Fenris and Carver. I got along with them great when I played as a mage even. Fenris seems kind of irritating in the first act I'll admit, but if you befriend him he is a lot more tolerable. He's just serious. He reminds me a little of Sten from Origins.

This. Dear God, this. I can't stand him after seeing him agree with Hawke when s/he sells Fenris back to Danarius. Not only that, but you get a +5 friendship boost. Stay classy, Anders.mrsph wrote...
If we are going to call anyone a hypocrite then Anders is a big one. You know, with the whole supporting of selling Fenris back into slavery after ****ing about how no one should be a slave for the whole game.

You know, I have never heard this complaint about Anders before. Is the fact he's possessed by a vengeful spirit-turned-demon who is slowly driving him insane and who is obsessed with freeing mages at all costs before sparking off a revolution that spreads throughout Thedas really dull? It's many things, I know, but boring?fchopin wrote...

Sorry if you like the guy but he is not only boring but also a hypocrite and a liar, the only reason i used him in my first game was because my sister died so i had to use another mage.
I will not be using him in any of my DA2 games again.
