 what is the easiest way to change the skin of a single weapon?

I'd like to change the skin of last thought staff into the staff of parthalan one but I'm totally incompetent in this field xD

The model ID of the Staff of Parlathan is w_stf_001a

I succeded with the savegame editing method but I'd prefer to use the override one.

I found the model of final thought (w_stf_st105a) and I substituted it with parthalan's one, put it in override but nothing happens. I followed the instruction precisely but I don't know what I am doing wrong
