As the title says I pop in the disc, the autorun pops up and I click to start the setup.exe but then nothing happens. I'm running it on Windows 7, and have it set to launch as administrator and even have it set in compatibility mode but nothing seems to work.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Also very disheartening in that any threads about this usually don't have answers, just people trying a bunch of different things that don't seem to work.

Edit: As an additional note this seems to work fine on my netbook, though I don't know if it'll be able to run it properly.

Have you tried running the file directly from the disc? and not using the autorun popup? It's strange because I just installed it recently on my windows 7 system. If you get it to install, do not install it in program files directory, install it in something like c:\\games or something like that.

Doesn't work for me either, apparently there's multiple versions of the game (or at least the installer) going around, and the orignal installer just doesn't work on new Windows versions. It seems the one from the compilation set does though (from what I've read).

Bit gutted as I'm using the original CDs and I can't get the setup.exe running at all (compatibility mode + running as admin = no go).

That's strange because I'm using the discs I bought when the game first came out in 1998. Of course you need to make sure you have directx 9 installed too here www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx The only other thing I can suggest for you to try is booting into safe mode and see if you can install it then. Maybe you have something conflicting with it.

Sorry I have been absent from this thread I've been without internet for the past few days but I thought I'd let you know I installed it on my netbook and it works there fine (with a slight bit of lag now and then). So I suppose I'll have to make do. I do though enjoy the notion of being able to take Baldurs Gate around with me :)

I'm having installation trouble of a slightly different sort, I was in the process of installing when my power cut out, at about 24% completion. When I was able to boot back up, the installer won't let me try to install or repair, instead the only options are play and uninstall. The former obviously doesn't work, but when I try to uninstall, either through control panel or through the autorun function, it tells me it can't work because the uninstall file is corrupted. I'm at a bit of a loss, since I can neither install nor uninstall now, and all I wanted was some BG :P

You might take a look at this topic in the Boards'o'Magick forum, from someone who described how to manually uninstall and re-install: http://www.sorcerers...ead.php?t=53871

Probably a bit late, but I just had the same problem with the Original Saga discs.

After trying all sorts of things without success I just tried opening the setup file and leaving it in the background like that for a while. About an hour later the setup finally launched and I managed to install the game normally.
I can't really explain why that happened, but with patience you might also have some success.

Good luck!

What i did to get the game to install was to copy the contents from the first disk into a temporary folder on my desktop. then i set compatibility to xp service pack 3 and shut off desktop compositing and windows styles on the installer program. installed fine after that. then to get the game to run i set it's compat the same as above.
