I'm sure Saren did plenty of nasty things too. Heck, there's a book on one of his deeds. Why wasn't he arrested?

Oh, yeah, that's right, he was a SPECTRE. I'm really not sure the notion of this power of legal exemption that Spectres have is sinking in.

Yeah, well, guess what? For Saren's crimes he is

DEAD

So he paid for his crimes.

Why? Here's a list of crimes Shepard has committed:

1) Mineral scanning

When scanning for minerals on certain planets, some of them are already being mined. Others may even have the rights to mine there, while Shepard more than likely does not. THAT IS STEALING.

EXAMPLE: In the Valhallan Threshold (where the Migrant Fleet is) there is a planet that is already being mined by the quarians. Shepard can just stop by and take all the highest amounts of resources. How come the quarians didn't stop this heinous act?

2) Those two asari on the Citadel. They were having trouble going home. Shepard can slip them something (a pass or something) that they can use to get home, despite that being against regulations.

3) Extortion. Shepard can basically threaten shopkeepers into giving him/her a discount. THAT IS A CRIME.

4) Garrus' LM. Those two krogan bodygaurds Shepard can kill, even though they didn't do anything. That is MURDER.

5) Shepard can allow those workers to die in Zaeed's LM when he has the ability to help them. That's INDIRECT MURDER.

And many more.

Shepard is a criminal?

Discuss.

Ramirez, this can all be ignored by being a goody two shoe like myself! paragon ftw!

@Ericzio I am a paragon player. But I find some of the things Shepard can do is just pure criminal.

@Fingolfin09 With all due respect, please use complete, sentences with correct punctuation. Comments like that will make you look childish.

The Council can't prosecute you for what you do in the Terminus Systems, it's outside of their jurisdiction. It would be the equivilant to me not commiting a crime in my country and then coming to your country for a visit, only to be instantaneously jailed and sentenced for following the laws of my country.

I'm not sure Shepard has yet to commit an act as serious as openly attacking a colony of millions of Citadel citizens.  There is a limit, such as such open brazen warfare against an associate member's entire colony.  Shep has yet to cross that limit, before the Council declares a Spectre as rogue and sics another after them.  Shepard's "crimes" in his activites as a Spectre are as petty as <$10 thefts compared to capital murder.

And as I said before, the powers of a Spectre's legal exemptions are not really being comprehended here.

Actually, depending on where you live, you can be jailed.

Blatantly allowing innocents to die, assaulting innocents, yeah that's REAL minor. I already know about Shepard being a spectre, but once again, THAT IS SUBJECTIVE.

Still missing the point.

Shepard's otherwise-would-be-crimes = <$10 petty thefts.

Saren's crime of attacking an established colony (not just some frontier podunk): Capital murder.

Whether or not to prosecute a Spectre for their (mis)deeds is entirely the perrogative of the Council. They are the only ones that a Spectre answers to. Saren openly attacked an Earth colony and the Council was provided proof that he was not acting in the interest of the Council, and he got sicc'd on by newly-minted Shepard. The Council was convinced that they were white-washing Shepard for merely siding with the only people who would believe him and they eased off.

Entirely the Council's prerogative.  That is the nature of a Spectre's legal carte blanche powers.  Odds are if you file a grievance against a Spectre, the Council is gonna side with their guy, unless you have an ironclad case of a seriously huge transgression, as was the case with Saren.  You're not legally compelling them either.  You're merely convincing them.

This whole argument seems mundane, you're not going to be arrested either way...If you did there'd be no game and there'd be little point to a paragon/renegade system if as soon as you perform a renegade action you're sentenced.

Alright, after Shepard saves the civilized galaxy from annihilation feel free to charge him and lock him up. Then see how long it takes before a lynch mob frees him from jail and hangs you for stupidity.

Let's look at this practically.

"I am Commander Shepard. I am the most highly-trained killing machine Humanity has ever produced. I have a fanatically loyal team of a dozen immensely-skilled operatives, any one of which is worth at least a platoon of soldiers by themselves. I have a one-of-a-kind warship with stealth technology, the most powerful weapons in the galaxy, more armor and shields than a heavy cruiser, and a set of engines that will allow her to outrun anything in space. I also have the best pilot in Alliance history to drive her."

"I've killed Krogan Battlemasters, Asari Commandos, Geth Collosi, Thresher Maws, Reaper Avatars, and the entire Collector species using nothing but an assault rifle and my guts. I've stopped wars with my words, and held the fate of entire races in my hand. The Geth fear and respect me. The criminal triads of Omega flee when they hear I'm coming. The Reapers themselves feel a twinge of doubt when they hear my name."

"Who, exactly, are you going to send to arrest me?"

Well Major Antella is insane enough.
Admiral Steven Hackett is trying to save him and poor Alliance soldiers that are send in certain death.

One of the most accurate statements I've seen on these forums.
