Hyperboles, hyperboles everywhere.
I'm surprised the route they took with Anders in DA2

I put a lot of faith in Anders on my first playthrough and romanced him too (and he broke my heart). Playing through again ... he lies SO MUCH in Act 3. All through his personal quest he just constantly lies to Hawke's face. I wanted to punch him whenever he said "hmm, I need more drakestone" even though I was RPing that my Hawke thought he just needed it to help him and Justice. More drakestone is it Anders? To blow up a bunch of innocent people? Sure! Why don't we go disembowel some kittens while we're at it.
Sooo satisfying to yell at him for blackmailing me though when I turned down the very last chantry quest.

I'm glad I romanced Anders on my first playthrough, because I can't bring myself to do it again.
Anders was my favorite character in Awakenings. Even though my warden was married to King Alistair, I secretly wished for a romance option with Anders. I thought I got my wish in DA2. I knew he was up to something 'bad' against the circle, but I was completely stunned by what he did in Act 3! I honestly stared at my dialog choices for about a minute. I wanted to dump him, and execute him on the spot. But since I was playing a mage, I decided to go vigilante with him, just so I had that ending for DA2:2 or DA3.
On my second playthrough, I found Fenris makes a lot more sense. I executed Anders, though I was more emotionally conflicted than I thought. The knife reminded me of Wesley. As horrific a deed
Anders committed, he was my Warden's friend, lover (in a former playthrough), and companion to Hawke. Third playthrough I intend to release my former friend and tell him to get out of my sight.
On subsequent playthroughs, it is easier to agree with Fenris. In Awakenings, Anders was a carefree guy. Merging with Justice changed them both.

Good question. While my Warden tried to do the greater good, she wasn't a saint. She allowed Morrigan to do the ritual because she didn't want to sacrifice Alistair or herself. She knew no good could come of whatever Morrigan had planned (and still don't know what that is). She couldn't let Anora keep the throne of Fereldan, so she figured she would allow Morrigan to do whatever she planned. My Warden figured she could just deal with whatever Morrigan was up to later!
So was Anders stronger in his convictions because he was willing to die for it? My Warden would have thought maybe so. She should have refused Morrigan, and sacrificed herself, but she didn't. She could not have killed Anders, but would mourn who he became. If the Warden reappears in DA3, she will certainly condemn his actions. Her loyalty to her friend stops at mass murder of innocent people, and inciting a war.
