Interesting that the Hawke's never met Leliana in the months she lived there.
Also interesting how MageAmell ended up in the Ferelden tower too!
Lothering's a pretty small town...

I don't imagine the Hawkes were regulars at the chantry. Bethany says she knew all the templars by sight, but only so she could more easily stay away from them.
Also I imagine, like many video game villages, there's more to Lothering than what we see.

What about the tavern? That is where you find Leliana ironically enough.

I can't remember exactly, but does it say that Lelianna knew nothing about Hawke or his family?

Hawke didn't, but Aveline did.

... The chantry was the center of Templars.. And they lived on the outskirt farm lands..

Doesn't Bethany mention a Sister Leliana? It may just be in a note, or something. Someone mentioned enjoying Sister Leliana's stories. It was on my first playthrough. Aveline mentioned a 'red-haired trickster sister' if you click on her in the Chantry.
Having magic in your line is considered a curse amongst the higher born, something dirty to be ashamed about. It's plausible Leandra's cousin sent her children to Fereldan's Circle to avoid having a visible stain on the lineage.

I'm pretty sure Hawke didn't exist in the writers heads when DAO was in development. Also as someone else mentioned, Lothering isn't very big in the game but there were a lot of people living there.

Actually they stated that developement for DA2 started in early 2009. DAO came out in November of 2009. Granted DAO was finished by early 2009 and released in November for marketing reasons I believe so take it as you will.

Well, for all we know, Leliana was trying to lay low...didn't interact with lots of people except for Chantry sisters.
an apostate going to the tavern...isn't it a bit too out there and noticeable?

As I recall Leliana wasn't running around too very much herself during her Lothering days. It didn't take long upon her meeting the Warden for her past to realize where she was and track her down. Lets face it, she would have keep mostly to herself in Lothering to escape tales of someone as distinctive as she in that farming town.

I thought there was mention of surrounding farmland in Lothering as well. The Warden could have ran past a member of the Hawke family but Lothering was mostly nobody were knowing at the time in Origins.
