I personally don't find any of the companions' personal stories interesting at all. Sandal however... I wish they would expand on his story.

For example, how is it that whenever we find him by himself, he's surrounded by corpses with no explanation of how he managed to kill them?

During the Deep Roads Expedition, when you ask how he killed all those Darkspawn, he replies with, "Boom." So I'm guessing he makes explosives? Okay, that clears up some questions. But when asked how he froze that Ogre he says, "Not enchantment!"

Can anyone provide some insight on how Sandal operates? Posted Image

I'd love to see a DLC enitrely about Sandal and his story. Though I doubt many people would be interested

Bodain talks about how Sandal may be the first Dwarven mage. Possible the ability to use magic may have made Sandal some kind of savant. Hard to say w/o more data on his background.

Sandal is a cute little enigma for us to try to find out. The answer to the question probably goes back to why he was wondering the deep roads when Bodhan found him in the first place. If he was a mage that would make sense because that would scare the everliving **** out of any dwarf who had such a child. If he was a mage, he would have been a late bloomer. Most of them develop the signs as children, Sandal isn't that young.

I agree, none of the companions really interested me like they did in the original game. They all seemed bland and one-dimensional. "This guy's a brooding elf who hates mages, this chick's a prostitute, etc" I like Sandal, though, and I think it's funny how you always find him amidst tons of dead darkspawn all splattered in blood. I think it's supposed to be humorous, at least that's how I took it.

The first instance could have been written off as an attempt at humor.  Perhaps even a second instance in a large dungeon/series of dungeons where you would need to find a way to offload some junk or restock.  That incident in the Deep Roads in Act I and some of the monologues that you can get from him in later chapters indicate that he's more than a fool thrown in to lighten the mood a bit.  He fails spectacularly as a fool to lighten the mood later and at the very end of the game -- he darkens the mood considerably.

I don't know that he'll be a central figure in thing to come, but I think he'll play a much more important role than tradesperson and enchanter at some point in this series.

NOT enchantment!

We know that Flemeth comes and visits him, in your house, when he sleeps (where DO Bodahn and Sandal sleep?)

BTW - I study occult lore and Sandal made me think first of the angel Sandalphon. He is an archangle who is the twin brother of Metatron. Metatron is the Voice of God - Sandalphon is the angel who hears the prayers of Mortals and takes them up to God.

I love both Bodahn and Sandal. In the first game it was downright hilarious especially given the tension being built up going after the Archdemon. In DA2 I loved it as well, especially that as Hawke is approaching Sandal is just standing around scratching his butt. Their interactions (to me) came across as more heartfelt than anything within Hawkes own family. I admired Bodahn when he says that after spending some time at the Circle with Sandal to try and figure out his abilities, he left when some mages started looking at him like an object to be kept.

It's unlikely but I would love to see a Sandal DLC. Even just a short little level of Sandal wandering the Deep Roads annihilating hordes of Darkspawn with Enchantment!

Aren't salamander's considered to be fire demons or elementals or some such? Because they were thought to be fire proof?

Well, unless this was some sort of Pokemon reference. I never get the Pokemon references

After that little speech he gives if you click on him while in your house I want to know more about him.

He gives me an eerie feeling.

Yes, Salamanders are consider the spirits of the element of fire. Interestingly enough - Sandalphon also has connections with controlling elementals.

Salamanders = Fire
Sylphs = Air
Undines = Water
Gnomes = Earth

Bodhain did say that Sandal got a job in the Orlesian court, so I don't think this is the last time we'll see Sandal (and the next game's probably in Orlais, which is no doubt where Alistair was headed off to)
