IMHO, my first playthrough was a primarily Elemental/Force Mage and I was making blood mages cry for their demon mommies. With all the firepower a mage can bring legitmately with them, I've never fully understood why Blood Magic is the be-all end all?
Why turn to blood magic?

Its a cheap and easy power source, all natural too. Demons teach people blood magic, and its apparently easier to learn from them than from a book. Also, this way a mage can draw on both their mana, and their blood when they're in a pinch(if they can get the blood of others, then they're really dangerous).

Blood magic is fun to play around with, but its not meant for every encounter since somethings dont have blood like golems for example.

It's violent and blood is everywhere, everyone has blood, a never ending source of mana and power. Untill you kill everyone of course.
How much blood is needed for a simple blood magic spell?

Because it allows things that other schools of magic do not, like the ability to control the minds of others and theoretically it allows for longer/stronger casting if one had a large supply of blood (like the Tevinter's sacrificing slaves).

I use it as a last resort if I run out a mana... I turn on blood presense (aka i dont' remember what its called) and use it.....only if I'm not the one taking direct damage.

They should have delved into the whole theme of blood magic a little more. They could have shown that it has beneficial attributes to it. You have certain blood mages that help society using blood magic. The Templars don't like this. Kirkwall becomes split. And you probably wouldn't need the plot crutches that that conflict had.

My Mage right now hates Blood Magic in all it's forms. And is going to have a pretty crappy life up until Isabela admits she loves him. 1. Bethany died 2. Carver is going to die 3. Leandra will die. And he will never turn to blood magic
He doesn't see the reason in it. His Father taught him better.

I would of liked to see the story change about blood magic.. I chose blood magic as my lvl 14 point.. BUt no one noticed....why the blank not... I think depending on your choices in magic should effect your story out come... I'm a dang blood mage and all they can do is pick on Merril, F you bring it to me I kick your arse :X

Along these lines, why be afraid of mages and demons at all, when 2-handers are the ones who have real pwnage?
DA2 just has a strong storyline/gameplay separation - much too strong, for my tastes.
