Here are some ideas I have come up with. Throw out your own ideas.

1. Play a harder difficulty (nightmare) or (nightmare+) mod whenever it comes out

2. Play using different companions then your first playthrough

3. Try soloing the game (involves a lot of patience and kiting)

4. Use a mod to remove friendly fire from nightmare, allowing you to use new strategies and companions

5. Play without using health potions

6. Play without a healer

7. Play without a tank

8. Try a new class

Anyone else have some ideas?

Yes that is a great one. I forgot to mention it since my first playthrough was nightmare no pause.

Play with only default weapons? (i.e. weapons unequipped)

Play without allocation any attribute points?

Play without allocating ability points to more than one tree?

Personally I don't like making Bioware's games hard, because for me there's plenty of replay value in imposing roleplay rules.

Play a class/spec/skill tree that you weren't initially impressed with. Figure out how to make it great and fun.

I'm looking forward to trying this on my next playthrough, but honestly I don't think I can do it.

Don't use quick save.

Don't use Maker's Sigh.

Follow a set RP path no matter what the consequences.

Play as a healer yourself
have your companions be 3 melee fighters

Just sit back and watch enemies get ripped apart

I found playing with a stunted/awkward party makes they game very entertaining. I fell in love with da:o and this was my favorite way to play through somi am going to try it in da2.

Anyone have suggestion on an interesting party set up?

Play with no activated abilities. Just passives and sustains. Health Potions allowed. And dog.

i like the roleplay thing myself... but playing on a lower difficulty setting with odd builds is pretty fun too.

on my next play, i think im gonna try all melee on normal, and see what happens.

Personally, I find this one a bit odd. If I want to play a challenging real-time action RPG, I play Demon's Souls. DA2 is not designed to be played without pausing the game. It can be done, of course, but given the default game speed, your mouse-clicking skills will be the decisive factor.

Of course, if this idea appeals to you -- why not? It may even require some interesting build adjustment (e. g., while playing a rogue, prioritizing Duelist at 7 over Shadow or Assassin is obviously the way to go with no pauses).

I grabbed the guide and went over everything in small detail.

Maybe I should qualify that as being fun by mentioning I'm a lawyer.

Play with the intent to either kill or force as many followers to leave as possible... after importing a DAO playthrough where you had done the same. This is one of my goals for a future playthrough to tie in with my 'Mass Effect' worse playthrough :D

As others have said, I tend to find roleplay reasons the best for replays, although I am tempted to do a full 'rogue' party playthrough (technically the only one you can do with a full complement from Act 2 onwards).

You can make it as challenging as you want, still doesnt make it any less enjoyable doing the same godamn poitnless quests in Act 1 though does it?

Decided if I ever play a third time, I'm just going to console myself the cash and XP and only do the main quest lines....screw the side quests.

I went for Unstoppable in Act 1 on Nightmare, and kept going with it the rest of the game. A no deaths run made some fights I didn't mind the first time more frustrating, but that was mostly because of stupid companion AI and their desire to be beheaded by my blade.
