If you  have him join the templars and he goes back and joins you, does he have templar skills? (obviously he should have) though im leaning towards making him a warden but a mage/templar sibling rivalry is just waiting to come out

From what I understand, no. He gets no specializations, but you get to assign all his points and skills, as he comes at your level with all the basic talent trees.

Sadly he doesn't gain templar, or warden, skills and is stuck with his original 5 trees.
