Is the skill that Hawke uses in the trailer to rip the Arishok in half not in the game? Started 3 games, one with each kind of character, finished game with Mage, havn't found it at all. Also found Blood Mage specialty useless.

Yeah, it's not in the game. I'm pretty sure that Bioware lied about finishers being in the game.

That was such a cool spell, was really looking forward to ripping lots of enemies apart.

The only finishers I can really see are like the one that was done with the Orge during Varric's opening embellishment tale. There's a few others here and there but they're cinema ones, not really something that happens during normal battle.

It's the 'finisher' move of the crushing prison spell, but you do only see it on the first ogre (and the destiny trailer) I believe...

Untrue. It has a very small chance of firing if you hit with a critical on a near death Orge. Has only happened for me once outside of the cinematic.

I've seen it twice in the same game (rescue Nathanial), but only on ogres. They might be the only one's big enough for the hands to be obvious though.

Finishers only occur against bosses usually. They weren't lying, mages had no finishers in DA:O and now they technically do. They just removed finishers against non-bosses.

Yeah I've seen it a few times as well against Ogres.

Just echoing what everyone's saying... Merrill's ripped an ogre or two apart.

Really, it's on the crushing prison move huh? I'll have to keep that in mind.

Upgraded Crushing Prison + Staggered Target + Target ~ 10-20% = Hands of doom ripping in half.

If you watch closely when the Mage casts the spells their hands are envoloped in energy like in the trailer. And If an enemy is close to death they get ripped in half by small hands. :P

Well, Merrill didn't call it crushing prison.

She called it foreplay.

Makes no sense that it's a finishing move of the Crushing Prison spell imo. Havn't gotten it in my playthrough, but in DAO it was like locking a target in place by placing great pressure around him, essentially killing lesser mobs and doing a lot of damage to bosses. But now it's a summon demony hands from magical portals into the Fade and rip a target apart, and not doing any crushing at all? It should have been a expensive dot/disable of the Blood Magic tree imo, an unique spell.

I had it fire today for the first time and it seemed to get triggered through one of the Force spells. Though, it's possible Merrill was the one that triggered it with Crushing Prison at the exact moment I hit it with a Force spell. Maybe a combo of the two, combined with staggered?

I'm not even sure it is triggered by crushing prison since I don't have the spell on my Hawke mage or any of the companions.

not sure but when killed an ogre, the hands had the same color of the "walking bomb" spell (black and purple), ofcourse we had a whole bunch of spells and debuffs on him, crushing prison could've been in the mix.

huh, I gotta replay as a mage and pick up crushing prison just for this lol
Still, I wish the ripping could've happened in the cutscene after fighting the Arishok instead of him just bleeding out on the steps. I fought him in tough single combat because I thought that's what would happen but it's just the same scene when you fight him with your party.

I don't know whether that's sexy or bloody horrible.

Alright so I went into the Deep Roads to find Nathaniel since I know theres an Ogre really early in the quest. I waited until it was about 10% HP, shield bashed for the stagger, then pull my companions off so I could finish it off with Crushing Prison (upgraded). From what I saw, the ogre is lifted into the air and the animation is similar to what we see in the exaggerated prologue. However, my Hawke never did the whole tearing motion with his/her arms. The ogre just explodes in mid air. Not sure I'd call that a finisher deathblow.

i wonder if the arishock gets ripped in half on a cutscene where you kill (only if you didn't earn his respect otherwise you'll just look at him and watch him die) him like if you're a warrior you jab with you're sword and if you're a rogue you stab him with them
i havn't gotten that far as a mage yet though

I have. The same cutscene plays but the way Hawke kills the Arishok differs slightly. I won't spoil it for you though.

Sorry for bumping this but i was rather suprised when i saw it first time, and i had to screenie it. =P

And yeah its crushing prison. I think the mob have to be "staggered" first or possible just in the 10% health area.
