I'd like to point out that pure Lyrium also sings. Remember when you gave the Lyrium Ring to Justice? He talked about it singing, so it might be just the Lyrium....

Lol at the Soul Calibur reference. That's exactly what I thought..."WTF?? What's Soul Edge doing in Dragon Age?" But cheah, the tainted idol explains what Nathaniel was doing there.

Interesting idea you have there I tend to agree with you.  I had wondered if it wasn't some type of prison for a spirit or demon and that is what was causing the "singing".  One thing that I can't shake is just a small shard had an entire manison haunted what would a long sword made of that stuff do.  The first enchanters office was right next to Merideth's and how many years did she have that idol then sword.  I believe he too was affected right along with her by whatever power that thing had.  Of course he had his own secrets but when did he start babbing into the blood arts.

I hadn't thought of that connection. But that is indeed a good point. There certainly could have been some 'bleed' from what of the Idol was placed into Meredith's sword. I do believe Orsino did have a prior tie to Bloodmagic in the form of the Lilly Killer though. IIRC a letter you find in his lair is signed 'O'. I can't recall the content of it though. But yeah, who is to say the Idols presence in the Chantry didn't Act as a catalyst to the cataclysm, so to speak.

Shame the run in with the Grey Wardens and Nathaniel wasn't a bit more giving though. Looks like the writers are keeping their cards very close to their chest about that, no doubt because it will be promininet in DA3. Interesting stuff!

There's an obvious connection between Darkspawn, the fade, lyrium, and **** deep underground.

For example: Why do darkspawn come up from deep underground?
How come, the older dwarven thaigs are, the deeper in the earth they are?
Elves and humans also had ruins with mixed architecture underground. (Found in the origins dalish intro)

There's definitely some connection between the Fade, Lyrium, and DS. 

Whether we'll ever get to see what it is . . . .well, who knows.

Its on my list of random **** to ponder, along with Flemeth's involvement with everything.

Actually thats not really intruding. If she hadn't stuck her nose in you'd arguably be dead. Taking Morrigan and delivering an amulet aren't the worst ways of repayment.

Flemeth could have demanded the Warden/Alistair/Hawke have kinky sex with her.(Morrigan has pointed out that Flemeth is very promiscuous) And IMO, that'd be much worse.
