This is a thread for people to post their MainShep's first name and why they chose it.
For example my MainShep's first name is Alan. I named him after the real Alan Shepard Jr.. Alan Shepard Jr. was second man, and first American, in space. He also was the commander of the Apollo 14 mission and the fifth man to walk on the moon.
Your Shep's First Name (what is it and why?)

Femshep: Aemilia
Was a character a friend of mine made on some roleplaying site. She was an assassin.
Maleshep: Julian
The name my brother chose when he started a Mass Effect game, but never finished it.

I named mine " " because I cannot come up with goo names.
Funny thing is, that the game temporarily renamed him to "Marc-Antoine Shepard" during the import process. It was reverted to " Shepard" directly after though.
Funny, Marc-Antoine is the name of one of the animators in ME1 and a cinematic animator on ME2.

Alecto, from the character in the Aeneid. Yes, they made me read it in school.<_< She is essentialy an agent against what I consider an illegitimate invading force. She comes to the world, wreaks havoc in a number of different ways and goes back home, leaving behind death and destruction in the name of what she thinks is good. Her boss ultimately failed, but she got her job done.

My main femShep is named Artemis, after the goddess of the hunt. And, being an infiltrator who is an artist with a sniper rifle, she lives up to her name.

I haven't made them yet, but when I make a biotic femShep, she'll probably be Athene, and I have considered making another infiltrator or maybe a vanguard with sniper skills named Atalanta (who was a deified mortal huntress).
I like pulling names from Greek mythology. I had some good names for maleSheps the other day, but off the top of my head, I can't remember them, because I didn't bother building the character (I'm having a really hard time making a maleShep that I like... the face construction seems more limited).

Sandra. When I started a game on my now ex-boyfriend's game when I was house sitting, I used my cat's name (Sandeh) as the name. When I got my own copy, I went with Sandra.
My second Shep is named Serenity. I'm a huge Firefly fan D:

Well, my "canon" Shepard is the default ManShep but my secondary one is a FemShep called Sara Shepard. I just liked the ring to it. She's a badass btw.

Male:
James - My name, rather vainly. Generally a character with this name is my roleplaying character in any game with character customisation.
Henrick - Renegade with a scar face. Based on Dr. No. Works well with the Cerberus Scientist outfit.
John - Default Shepard.
Lister - Paragon, Red Dwarf reference, get to use other skintone other then white.
Grognak - Named after Grognak the Barbarian - a prewar comic book series in the Fallout universe. One ugly son'a****.
Female:
Gemima - Named after a girl I know, more renegade then paragon but takes the moral high ground. Punches reporters.
Lucille - Renegade FemShep. Name just sounds like pure evil to me.
Katarina - First time using the Infiltrator class. Went with a FemShep.

i currently have 4 "canon" femsheps:
-nikita shepard- vanguard
before mindoir, her name was nikki, but she changed it after those events to something more warrior-esque. it is also intensely fitting that the "nik-" in greek means victorious, and in some cases, especially in india, nikhita can mean "of the earth". even more fitting, considering her colonist lifestyle.
ara shepard- adept
her backstory is pretty in depth, but to make a long story short, she renamed herself after a streetsign in london (paradise walk) that no longer functioned properly, resulting in its display reading "ara walk".
rhiannon shepard- soldier
welsh queen. long story.
kyrah shepard- sentinel
well, kyra was a really awesome character in the chronicles of riddick movie, but that's not where it came from. but the name often has associations with warriors and whatnot.

You're on the Bioware forums, you're safe here, and those that say otherwise can shove it
On topic, usually kept with John Shepard for the male Sheps. Went with Ellaria or Ailyn for the FemSheps, just because I had read them in books and liked the names.

Male: Ched
It was an odd nick-name I had in college that just kinda stuck. The fact that it is odd sounding makes for great conversations with other people who play the game. "Ched Shepard, ladies-man of the galaxy!" They call him.
Female: Nike
Named after the Greek goddess of victory. Nike is a rather common name that I use for female characters in games.

I have two femSheps.
Urania Jane (UJ) Urania is a name I have called all my female characters for some time. She is the Greek Muse of Astronomy and Astrology.
Erica was so named for Erica Kane. I'm not really a soap opera fan, but I was playing Erica Shepard as a b*tch, so why not.

Alan as well, assumed he was Shep's namesake. My Renegade is named Jack which made ME2 kind of confusing.

FemShep:
Joy - I based this femshep on "The Boss" from MGS3, who's also known as "The Joy"

Femshep:
Rima- the name sounds cute and fits the look of my femshep.
Manshep:
Sad Shepard- because when he was a little tyke, Udina ran over his puppy with a lawn mower. or at least that is the story I made up for him. I chose the name when I was messing around with eyebrows and found some that made him look like he was about to cry. So, without my originality, I chose Sad.

Females: Kyliann, Chalin & Siren
Males: Dilan, Cole & Currun.
None of them chosen for exciting reasons, I usually just chose a name that I think fits their face/character and/or sounds unique.
