My first name is Jon although everytime I look at his name I think of John Sheppard from Stargate Atlantis.

When I am given the opportunity to customize my character, I always make the initiative to put MYSELF in the game. It makes me feel apart of the game and play as I see through my own eyes. I cherish the character I created and I take a LONG time to create my character. Being widely known in The Sims community for making sexy sims, I make sure that my customizable characters on my games are just as beautiful as their creator be it male of female, white, black, asian, or alien.

So, I named my "Shepard" after me, "Whitney". Whitney touches people and does the right thing. Whitney is strong, classy, and refuses to be treated unfairly and disrespected. Whitney is her own individual self. Whitney is ME. That's why she is named "Whitney Shepard".

My canon Shep, April Shepard *points to avatar* -Birth (RP) name is Aibreán, the Irish word for April.  She's named after April Ryan, the main char form one of my all-time favourite games, The Longest Journey.

My other, mostly cryoed Sheps include:

F - Xanthe (my first ever Shep from back in '08), Harper, Logan and Siranee (named after a good friend of mine)

first Shep was Leah, because its the name I use a lot personally and first game for me is always the "explore and make choices based on personal values" sort of thing. then of course she went ahead and evolved into her own character that has only a few things in common with me, but there you have it. She also exists in 2 incarnations - as a soldier and as a Sentinel.

Second shep is Simone, because I wanted a slightly vampy renegade and Simone sounded like a nice vampy name.

the rest of the shepards names start with J and somewhat reflext what kind of shepards they are...somewhat.

Jean Luc was named and modeled after captain Picard, Jensen was based visually on Jensen Ackles, so he ended up keeping the name as well, James was very loosely based on James Bond, I just like names Jeremy, Justin, and Joshua. I wanted Jade to look Japanese so I modeled her after several photographs of Japanese beauties (literal search term that I used) - Jade is a popular gemstone in Japanese art, and it starts with J. Johari was inspired by Storm and Uhura, so I wanted her to have meaningful African name - it means "gem, something of value" in Swahili. Jewel started out as an experiment, so I just picked first thing I could think of that started with J and sounded namelike, and then I fell in love with her.

Main is named Hela - after a Deus Ex character. Oddly the first name that occured to me when choosing. The setting fits, somewhat...Though I do not play renegade all that much as the name would demand.
Thought about a homage to Major Kusanagi, but I can´t get the voice working. But I´l try it out eventually.

I tried to pick names that sounded well with "Shepard" and fit her background and role.  Most of my Shepards go by nicknames or shortened versions of their real names.  I was aiming for names that are short and strong, nothing flowery or prosaic, but still feminine, likw how I imagine Shepard herself: tough and capable but still a woman.

Other Sheps though have names like Angel - Paragon Female, and even Evil Shepard. He's evil and killed everyone. Just helps me determine which playthrough is which.
