Hey it's my first time trying nwn multiplayer/online and I'm looking for something casual or non-hardcore, maybe a persistant world, or continuing campaign.  I'd prefer a Dark Sun or PlaneScape setting (favorite settings from way back in the day).  Can anyone point me in the right direction.  A persistant DarkSun world would be especially cool to find.

cool, I'll probly try and check that out.

also I've updated my NWN with the updater, but everytime I try to join a game it tells me I don't have some required file. Is there something else I need to download for multiplayer?

Yep. Basically each server (except some) will have custom content that adds more options to the game. If you search their forums, you can find hak files. Basically all you need to do with these is dl, extract, and place them into the hak folder (usually your main nwn directory called hak).

As TSMdude said, World Serpent Inn does fit what you are looking for I believe. Here is our page to grab the dls. They add a bunch of clothing, heads, and tilesets we use to make for a more custom experience.

This is the link to our Server Information section (changes, dls, information on races, custom class stuff, rules, how to get started, etc):
jenshumate.com/wsibbs/viewforum.php

This is the DLs section itself. It tells you exactly what you need to do to get it working. Feel free to ask if you are not sure and will be happy to help out.
jenshumate.com/wsibbs/viewtopic.php

Note: You only need the haks. The overrides, portraits, and stuff right on the bottom are optional and not necessary.

So just to make it easier, you need to dl these (if you don't already have the CEP 2.3):

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2: Community Expansion Pack 2.3: Required to play WSI.

Download here and run the CEP updater when you've got it installed.
This should be found in your NWN main folder.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3: Custom Haks:

Required to play WSI. Add to your Hak folder, located in the NWN folder.

1. Custom Heads
2. Custom Clothing
3. WSI Top
4. WSI Tilesets: To Download ALL tilesets... File 1 (29.4M) File 2 (29.4M) File 3 (51.2M) File 4 (260M)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We have some dark sun and planescape at the WSI, but also Forgotten Realms - the Vast. I'm not aware of any servers that are based primarily in Dark Sun. At WSI we're easy going, we don't force RP but we do reward and cater to it. Our RPers sometimes just want to log in and kill some spawns after a long day. No big deal. We also have a few campaigns that you can join, once you sign up to the forums.

And yes, many servers use CEP or other custom haks, so it's best to get the downloads over with. Quite a few servers keep the haks set up so that you won't have to download the bigger ones more than once, but they will have a few smaller haks that are custom to each world. It also really enhances what is now an old game.

Good luck and have fun :)

Thanks for all the info. I'll try it out after I get all the stuff downloaded and working, I'm a console gamer primarily so it's going to take me a bit since I'm new to messing with/finding file folders and all that.

Though in reality this is just servers he likes and not a Community server list at all.

It is better to honestly list here what you like and look around. Like we would not be good for you as we are very canon and rp heavy.

WSI has a setting you like and is a bit more relaxed for casual gamers and probally would be a good place to get your feet wet though regardless I still say check out a few servers and find that niche you like.

Heck...even the Harry Potter is pretty cool.

WSI is probly the one I'm going to try first. Right now I'm just trying to work through the technical stuff like finding the program that opens the CEP thingy and the CEP updater thingy.

Sorry! Missed mentioning that part. You're going to need Winrar (think like a zip file, just compresses the data so the dl doesn't take ages). You can dl the trial for it for free from their site. I'll link it below, just grab the one that fits your operating system.
www.rarlab.com/download.htm

Once that is done, you should just be able to right click the file and extract what you need from it wherever you want. Just make sure you can find them after. :)

If you need help give me a holler and I will talk you through it on Skype or another IM service.

Another planescape server type is Sigil I think it is. Supposed to be pretty good as well and is on the Role Playiing section of Gamespy.

I think I've fixed all the files, but I'm getting a "CD key already in use" message. Sometimes I've gotten that message and sometimes I don't; I'm not sure whats up with that.

Where did you get your copy of NWN from?

I get it sometimes too. Assuming you've got your cd key through legal means, sometimes you just need to wait 5-10 minutes and it'll work. Happens when you log into a server and log right back out. Basically the game thinks you are still on the other server and takes awhile to refresh.

Glad to have been of help. ^_^

got it on GOG.com. I've got everything moved into the Hak folder now and I'm not getting the already in use message, but I keep getting a cannot loade module because I'm missing "custom talk table Cep22_vl.tlk". I tried a different server and it said the same thing except it was "Cep21_vl.tlk".

I'll try again tomorrow, I probably did something wrong or put the files in the wrong place or something.

Put the tlk file in the tlk folder, not the hak folder.

Did you request your unique product keys from GoG?

Yeah I requested them, never got an email back (been like 2 days), but I also noticed theres a file in my nwn folder that says cd keys. I never had to put any in yet.

There wasn't a tlk folder in the nwn folder so I moved the tlk folder from the cep stuff to the regular nwn folder and i'll give that a try in a bit.

Nice Al Bundy btw (I forgot his real name)

What is wrong with you? I told you to stop pestering me!

Just because I put the "Community" name there doesn't mean that I automatically have to put ALL the servers in there. I am limited to having a couple of servers on the list. I choose to put servers there that I think deserve special attention. To just list the most popular servers there is just counter productive as players can easily find thoose by just sorting the servers on players and then joining one of the servers that have the most players which is the way most players seem to find servers anyway.

I go out of my way to find interesting and new servers there that need extra attention. I surely take any suggestions under considerations for the list...and I even considered your server as you requested me to do so. Unfortunately your server didn't fall in my liking as I personally think it is too messy and then also I think your announcments on theese forums and other places about your server are just a tad too much...which is a reason alone to not list you there...

Despite that I invite ANY server admins to announce AND advertise their servers on my Xfire guild. They can do it in the forums and also I would gladly write it in the news section. Both forum posts and news posts are clearly visible on the front page of the guild for a good period of time. Instead of accepting my offer to do so you choose to post after me many times and complaining that my Xfire guild MIGHT not be for the community....doh.

As I said before, I call the guild "community"...but it could be any community. It is just states that it is "A" community on Xfire...and doesn't necessarily have to be "THE" community....hence....it is pretty much my guild...but I still post a lot of servers there of which not all are my favourites. Some are just such that I find interesting and deserve special attention OR suggestions from others....
