After I updated my Microsoft Visual C++ libraries, I've had no problem running Dragon Age with the 1.01a patch, so do I really need 1.01b?  Since I already updated the C++ libraries, will using the new patch mess things up?  Thanks for any help provided.

The shortcuts were messed up, regardless of if you are running fine, those are not. The only shortcuts working are if you use steam, or are booting directly from the DvD menu to play.

You don't need to patch then. The only two additions were the C++ thing and the fix to the Windows Explorer short cuts.

So they patch cosmetic issues and deliberately let all serious problems reported in these forums remain *sigh*

Your experience is not the experience of the community as a whole. Clearly complaints have been made in large numbers, just because you have no issues, doesn't mean others don't.

Not to mention the last to HOTFIXES are not full blow patches. These have only been hotfixes. They are not the first patch expected. As has been said many many times now by bioware reps.

Not sure if you were responding to me or not, but I never said or even implied that others were not having problems.  No offense meant.

Also the b patch adds some damage and defense in Normal mode...so if you're in normal mode and working fine, you still want the patch IMO.

My apologies, it's rather late and I took your meaning to be that you were suggesting 1.01b wasn't needed at all. No excuse for my snidey response.

Again, sorry.

I think BioWare is working on the larger issue. They are just more complex and take longer to fix. I'd rather have the smaller ones fixed right away instead of waiting for everything in one big patch down the road.

1.02 is meant to comprise of much meatier fixes than 1.01.

Really?  The 1.01b patch notes only list the below items as being different from the 1.01a patch.  To my knowledge, the damage and defense stuff in normal mode has not changed between the patches.

fixed an issue with Vista and Windows 7 Game for Windows Explorer

fixed an issue with Dragon Age and Windows Game Explorer

updated Visual C runtime libraries

It would be really good to know which bugs have been acknowledged/reproduced by Bioware and which ones they don't even have the slightest clue about.
