If I want to use or purchase any armor at all, it says it's restricted to Hawke!  Okay, did I miss something somewhere stating that this would be the case for the game?  What's up.

And also, where the hell is the search functionality for these forums?  I'm sure someone already answered this.  Thanks!

You can only Change Hawkes armor, your companions change there armor/appearance depending on some things in game.

Are they all actually armor? Or does this include the accessories, weapons, and others you CAN put on your companions?

you cant change armor like Origins, but u can give them rings, weapons, belts etc.

I do miss giving armor to companions.

nope, for some reason BioWare decided they didn't want to model various armors onto your companions and instead give them their own look.

which renders a very large portion of the stuff you find and can totally worthless. Gotta love it.

no really.

you can equip accessories..that's it.  Rings, belts and necklaces.  you can find/buy "upgrades" for their non-changable "armor" and enchant it though.

yay?

yes it's lazy and lame.

I quite like having one less thing to worry about with companions but when I first read about he armour I thought it meant you couldn't equip companiosn at all so I'm happy with the accessories and weapons. I love how you get a storage chest so early on instead of having to do a separate mission to get one which I know not everyone would have had since the Wardens Keep mission was DLC originally. I also loved the inclusion of the "junk" section of inventory and being able to put unwanted armour and stuff in it. It helps a lot when working out what can be sold.

I'm just imaging...

Hawke - "Aveline, I found these slightly better armor pieces for you to wear"
Aveline - "Hawke, I'm the captain of the city guard, I can pick what to wear my-"
Hawke - "No Aveline! You will wear this armor adn you will LIKE IT!"

Makes money easier to come by.  Don't have to keep as much armor.

I'm with Mariefoxprice83 sicne you can still equip them pretty much all else weapons and accessories I don't mind not changing their armour since they have their own unique looks and their own armour is upgradeable. I am always sad in games when I have to take a companions special outfit away to give them better armour. This way you don't have to.

The only downisde is you can't dress the men in chasind robes anymore ::pouty emoticon:::

I was kinda iffy about this early on, but I soon changed my mind. It's less of a hassle, and you can just put every piece of armor, headwear, boots or gloves that aren't class specific to you directly to the junk "folder" to be sold at a single click of a button. And changing the accessories and weapons (and shields for Aveline) for companions does allow some customization.

The only thing I would have wished is that the upgrading of companion armors was less linear - that you could choose between "upgrade paths". If that was implemented, I suspect there'd be a lot less complaints about "dumbing down" the equipment side.

I'm annoyed by Sebastian being the only one a bow is useful for unless you're a rogue who has archery... and even then, since you can't switch weapons easily, switching between your bow and daggers are such a pain! I have a ton of bows and I end up leaving half of them so I don't have to take up room with them.

Personally, my main issue in not being able to change my companion's clothes is I would have respected Isabella alot more if I could have put some pants on her! I don't mind iconic outfits, I just wish we could switch through a couple. Anders only goes all black after you complete his quest entirely (which.. is sorta lame. It's not even a "Love you" change like the others. You have to indulge in his dark side to get him to...wear dark clothing. Wallowing in rebel much?)

I think it'd be fun to at least have color variety with maybe a few modifications. Like an outfit of just adding tight black pants to Izzie, or maybe a looser elegant piece for Merril (Though her white looks lovely if she's romanced.) Fenris...I suppose they could at least give him a couple shades to choose from. And Varric would look good in dark blue too. Maybe even give Aveline a choice for off-duty armor when she's with you. Of course, I loved that the cut scenes at least removed my dumb hood but I wanted it gone all the time. That thing was hideous on mages, though sorta okay on rogues. STill would prefer non-visible.

Someone on the non-spoiler board suggested a much better solution than DA2's system: auto-equip.

Like auto-level, but the script just has your companions toss on stuff that is the best for them (after you cherry pick the best gear, naturally). No hassle for the people who don't like inventory management without alienating those of us that do.

Not sure what system you're playing on but I know on the PC you can make the hoods and helmets invisible everywhere except the inventory screen so Hawke always seems to be bare-headed evne if wearing some sort of headgear.   There's a tick box in the Options screen or something - not in the game right now so can't say exactly where but I  know I use this function so I don't have to stare at annoying headgear all the time.

Don't like that idea at all!

The point of wanting to equip your companions is to make the choises of what YOU value more - should I give them the ring that boosts mana regeneration, or the one that boosts attack? I certainly don't want the game to make that choise for me.

The fact is that there is no straightforward way to judge which equipment is unequivically better than other equipment of a similar level, but different bonuses. And that's a GOOD thing. Further, to automate such a thing, you'd have to trust the AI's decisions on what is better. If you've paid attention to the star-system auto-evaluations of equipment, you see how buggy this system is, as it stands.

It seems to ignore all runes, and often I've seen it evaluate identical items differently: two rings, for example, both giving +2 to mana regeneration, with one ring having a two star evaluation, and the other a zero star evaluation.

Why not? You get to manage your party's inventory like in DA:O but for people too lazy to do so they can just hit the "Auto-Equip" button like they do the "Auto-Level" button.

Uh, even hobos don't wear the exact same thing for seven years. If they want independent characters at least have them change their own appearance periodically. And spend their own damn money on upgrades.

I like the new companion armor system because it is far less arduous and easier to maintain. The time I spend managing inventories when I visit a vendor has been cut by 75%.

What I do not like is that I cannot opt to have my companions run around in bikinis......lol.

That is a simple mod though.

As one of the idiots which kept several characters, such as Morrigan, in their default outfit for most of the original game + expansequel, I can't exactly say I dislike this decision. The only thing I'd change about the current system is still finding equipment you can't use.

Yeah, for most DA:O characters, I kept them in their iconic outfits. In fact, the only people whose outfits I actually changed were the warriors: I gave Alistair either the warden armor or the king's armor, Sten would generally get whatever massive armor I could find until I got Wade's, and Oghren would get Dwarven massive armor.

Lels kept her chantry robes, Wynne her high enchanter robes, Morrigan her dirty rags, Zevran his leather armor (upgraded, I guess), etc. I guess I gave Shale the pidgeon and some shinies, but that doesn't really count.

Ha, I always put them in the best armour they could handle with their stats. Morrigan always got something less revealing until I got her upgraded robes from the chest in Flemeth's hut.
