It may be the lowest rated of Bioware's games (bar SC:DB) but that doesn't make it a bad game! Even if it wasn't my favourite, I still loved it.
Accusing it of being a truly terrible game is not supported by this score, just that it doesn't quite meet the greatness of Mass Effect or DA:O. It's being damned by slightly less glowing praise rather than outright hatred by its scores!

82 is actually pretty bad. You can't use 82/100 in the same way you'd rate other things - in games, 85 is about average for a game that's good enough to be worth buying. If you look at all games that get 85+, there's easily enough there to satisfy most people between game releases. But of course Dragon Age II wasn't terrible - when did I say it was? It's just way below Bioware's standards and a massive disappointment after Origins, and with the other games on the market, probably not worth buying for most people...

I'm not saying you were completely trashing DA2, but others in these forums do all the time, and we've some ALL CAPS crazies coming in already!
I'd probably think 82 is worth a little more than you do, worth purchasing if you like the genre, but that's just minor differences! I've really enjoyed games down to 70 (though not often) enough to buy them

This is possibly the worst understanding of the 100 point scoring system I've ever seen. 80-85 is still above average, where 70-79 falls in the range of average games you should be wary about. There are plenty of 80-85 rated games on Metacritic that are worth buying (Resident Evil 5, Devil May Cry 4, Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Borderlands, Ninja Gaiden Sigma) that offer plenty of hours worth of quality gameplay. These are games that aren't flawed, just didn't meet the high expectations placed on them - see RE5.
However, I do think an 82 is an incredibly generous score to give DA2. At the same time, the 3.8 fan score is also quite ridiculous. If I had to score it based on a 10-point scale, I'd say it's anywhere in the range of a 70-75. The game is deeply flawed, but I don't think it's unplayable. To get it out of the way, I loved this game. I got through 10 hours of it on the first day and didn't stop enjoying it. I'm in the middle of my second playthrough now and am still looking forward to a third run.
Regardless of my personal feelings toward it, it's impossible to ignore the glaring flaws and the numerous bugs that were overlooked because of utter laziness from the developers. The graphics are outdated, reminiscent of visuals that would be just barely acceptable at the beginning of this generation; the story is linear to the point where your choices have 0 effect on the overall story and the game ends the same no matter what you do; character customization is almost nonexistent. Quite possibly the worst offense and the one that epitomizes Bioware's laziness with this game is the repeating dungeons. It's hard to get excited about quests when you know exactly what the dungeon's going to look like because of what area it's in and the fact that you've seen them all already. I would gladly trek through the Deep Roads again in DAO than have to see the same warehouse more than 10 times in a single act. The fact that a game of this quality followed Mass Effect 2, which was incredibly polished, is a slap to loyal followers of Bioware. I seriously hope that this provides a big enough stain on their reputation that they get their act together.

I wonder how Mike Laidlaw is going to explain this to EA along with supposedly lower sales figure as well.
700k before the end of March is a lot... i doubt they will top DAO in the long run given how DA2 seems to have shorter legs than the first game but given how much shorter the dev time and cheaper DA2 is than DAO i doubt EA will be too harsh on sales, the low metacritic will raise some ire internally at Bioware tho
regardless of sales tho, i think everybody - including those that loved the game - would like for the sequel to receive more attention and time and polish and thought, i don't see the point in playing "follow the leader" when it's just following the other Bioware single player franchise and not surpassing what you're following...

Also, has anyone put out the score for Awakening and Tales of the Sword Coast?

Seing Neverwinter Night with such a high score make me cry all over.
DA2 was disappointing and had lots of flaws, but it's still ten times better than the huge pile of crap that the official campaign of NWN was.
I agree that NWN 1's OC was garbage, likely the worst story in any Bioware game made so far and likely to ever be made. But NWN 1 was a triumph of game design because it was a solid, fairly stable game with a robust and intuitive toolset. The strengths to NWN 1 were mods and the community around it. People are still making mods for it.
DA 2 is severely limited as a game in it's scope and vision when compared to NWN 1's 3rd edition rules and toolset. The story is better but it doesn't take much to make a better story than NWN 1.

It's better than most games get, games I'm sure many here enjoy. Unless they walk the way they talk and everything has to be 96-100 to be enjoyable, in which case they're exempt from humanity on counts of being anal.
Anyway I love your post.
