I hated the way the relationships were handled. I didn't feel the growth that was there in DAO. It was a couple of cheesy pickup lines, then people are moving into your house. it was very disappointing. And way to waste the most handsome character (Sebastian) in the game.

Hm....there were cheesy pickup lines and after sufficient gift spam you could boink your LI straight after Lothering. And after that there weren't much more, except for a personal quest, more kissing and more boinking off screen (unless you had mods). Yeah that's growth....

I agree... I feel like the love interests were executed better in DA2 than they were in Origins. Granted I wish there were more conversations but at the same time all you really did with your LI in Dragon Age Origins was as you said. You really could be done with the romance pretty early. And then after that there really was nothing else to it. Your LI would say "Hello my love" and then have no real conversation options.

I think what most people are wanting is more conversations that lead up to the actual romance scene, which I can understand. But I will say that I liked how DA2 seemed to actually make the romance matter a bit more after the fact that you did have sex with them. It also delayed some things, so you werent done with the romance by act 1. There wasn't a ton of content per say but there was more there than Origins I feel.

Think you're out of luck. According to Mary Kirby here: social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/306/index/6705707#6714743 sleeping with Anders or Merrill will end your relationships with Fenris and/or Isabela.

Hmm, maybe my game is bugged. My Hawke hooked up with Anders after Fenris had his meltdown, but Merrill is still asking Fenris about his love affair with Hawke. And Isabela remarked on her romance with Fenris, too, despite the fact that Anders is supposed to have moved in. Sandal and Leandra recognized the relationship with Anders, though. Maybe after Fenris' quest in Act 3, the rest of the party will take the hint.

I do agree with some of the people in this thread, the main thing that I think I wanted really was just more touching, hugging, kissing, ect. It just seemed like after the love scene my LI pretty much didn't touch me till the end of the game. xD

Which is sort of why I miss the "Lets just randomly kiss" option from DA Origins, as silly as it was.

I like the romances in both games, although the romances in DA2 are a little TOO dark for me. I think the pacing of the Fenris romance is a little better than the Anders one. With Anders, the romance starts off INCREDIBLY hot and passionate, and just fizzles out. I know it's part of his character arc, but that fact that you can't even get a forehead kiss/hug/hand-squeeze/fistbump at the Gallows at the end of the game (after all the CRAP you've been through together!) was a major letdown.

I need a mod for this. I don't care how much my companions frown at me for kissing a terrorist. >_<

Thx for answering.  So can i still sleep with Fenris then?  I won't let anyone move in.

There were some things I liked better about Origins, and some things I liked better about DA2. Overall, I prefer Origins, but there were some definite improvements in DA2.

I liked that there was some pacing to the development of the romances in DA2, but I felt it was too much at times. The amount of time you have to wait to properly romance Fenris is just silly. By that point in time, you've known him 6 years, and it's been 3 years since you slept together one time. So you're on friend status for three years, and with one apology to you, everything's cool again? I didn't find this believable at all. If you could actually be in a relationship with him that whole time, and maybe reached a new milestone after three years, I feel that would have been much better. I'm a pretty big romantic, but waiting three years for one guy who left you after sleeping with you once? That's not romantic. That's just sad.

With Anders, I got to hook up with him fully in Act II, and then things dissolve rather terribly in Act III with his emotional blackmail thing. I feel like my character would have broken up with him at that point, but there was no such option to do so. That really irritated me, and the option should have been there. You don't get a chance to break up with him unless you kill him, or until your final words before the last fight.

I also like the realism that the relationships each have their flaws. This was an improvement over Origins when it comes to realism, yet it was also pretty depressing. In some cases, I felt like it was overdone. For example, if you're playing a Lady Hawke as heterosexual, her options are psycho Anders and ragey Fenris. Each of them represent a different side to the big mage debate, and neither have much character beyond that.

I was so excited to learn more about Fenris in his Act III quest, but it's passed over so quickly, and then he doesn't comment much on it afterward. This contrasted greatly with the emotion you felt coming from Alistair about his sister in Origins, especially if you bring him into the Fade. There was just...more there.

I do love that your lover shows up to console you after Leandra's death. I thought that was a nice touch. However, even with the pacing of the romances, I still felt the romances in DA:O were more meaningful to me. I felt like I knew the characters better, and was more attached to them. Little things, such as being able to look the person in the face when speaking with them (contrary to them staring over the rail at your house and talking to you with back turned for a repeated one line comment), or being able to give them a kiss whenever you wanted...these things were small, but added a level of familiarity and intimacy with the LI that I felt was lacking in DA2.

Totally agree. I loved the Anders romance in act 1 and 2, but the 3 was too angst... I stayed with him anyways (really love that idiot), but it was disappointing not having a kiss in the last scene. Damn, my Hawke deserved that, and not a revolutionary speech! And not getting a romance outfit was bad too (I found especially cute the red band Fenris wore in the wrist if romanced).
And something I would have loved (I know it was impossible, but hey, one can always dream...) is more interaction with Justice. Even some kind of rivalmance with him... A hot, angry kiss with the spirit of Justice/Vengeance? Yesssss, please.

In general, I prefered romance in DAO. Zevran was really touching, seeing him develope feelings for the Warden, giving the earring and finally asking for a compromise... I felt more the romance there. And even if with him I couldn't kiss any time I wanted, I liked the possibility to go to the camp and have some kind of romantic scene. If I tried to talk to Anders at home, he only said he was happy to have my support or something like that. Really, Anders? No kissing? No sexy time? Bah.

I think that, if they take what they have in DA2 and put back in the stuff from DAO (like random conversation, quick check-ins with the sweetheart) and maybe add a dash more rivalry/realism... then it will be perfect.

Another thing that bothered me (spoilers people, I think we're past that but I'm putting it in anyway) was that I never WAS "in danger" by being with Anders, like he said, all the bloody time. If I'd gotten accosted at my home by some rowdy templars who thought to gain points with the Knight Commander or had to fight off extra thugs when I went out to "meet him at his clinic" that would have made sense, and given an element of danger/realism to being the love toy of an apostate abomination. Or - hey, since this seems even more obvious - how about Justice, who has expressed a problem with our relationship - comes out at some point and gets mean? I'll let your imaginations run away with that one, but I'm talking about something non-pornographic.

I guess the opposite would be true of having romanced Fenris, since he'd obviously kick the crap out of anyone who he saw sniffing around my mansion - which would be nice to see as well. Something for pity's sake other than "Hi, good to meet you" "Hey see you've got a problem there, I'm here for you" "Into bed we go" "Awww we really love each other no matter what" or "Yeah, this isn't working out" that seems to define all the love tracks in this game.

THIS. I loved being able to kiss Alistair whenever, wherever. I missed that so much in this game. I just wanted to go home sometimes and grab Anders and be like, let's make out, or let's go to bed. That alone would have made up for the lack of camp and extra conversation options. Although, I would have loved more conversation options leading up to the actual consummation of the romance.

Demarco09, monimakitten, fluorine7... This is my first post ever here since I'm more a reader than a writer but I wholeheartedly agree with you and thus, I also want to voice my disappointment with romances in DA2.

I so miss the occasional kisses and chats and tent visits with Zevran and Alistair, and the intriguing love scene with the best love song EVER. <3 I really relly adore the character design of Fenris and I like his rough temper but I so longed to see more of his lyrium markings.  I just don't understand why Bioware certainly seems to favour "chaste marriages" (Sebastian was a no-go for me after that scene :pinched:) . And it's not only about the love scene itself, the whole romance lacks depth. While I do like DA2, the romancing part was so disappointing that it made the game somehow incomplete for me. I hoped for so much more. Heck, I'd even pay money for any additional romance option. Might be a good DLC idea, Bioware. Oh well, I guess I need to continue re-loading and re-playing my Zevran and Alistair romances until then...

I also was disappointed on how the romances were handled in DA2.  I was SO hoping that Bioware would take it up a notch with the romances in DA2... I wanted more then what even DA:O had to offer. I felt such a connection with Alistair and Zevran when my Warden romanced them in DA:O and I loved how thier vocal tones and responses changed, when dealing with my Warden, as the romance progressed. The tent scenes were very rewarding when you decided to take it to the next level with your chosen LI (s).

Don't get me wrong- the first kiss with Anders was incredibly HOT and it did portray all the pent-up emotion that had been building between Anders and Hawk, but the bedroom scene was a BIG let-down. Would it have killed Bioware to make the scene a little longer and more passionate?!? I'm not looking for porn, but I wouldn't have minded a bit more "skin" or artistic love-making scenes.

I also missed the option to be able to kiss my LI when I felt Hawk needed a little cheering up or wanted to express her love to her chosen LI. After living in Kirkwall all those years- working and fighting alongside her companions/LI one would expect that there would be a lot more interactions between them. Where was all the conversations about their hopes for the future or what they have already gone though together? I mean, if you end up actually moving in together, there should be a lot more conversations and touching..shouldn't there?!?

On my first play through, I ended up killing Anders ( WHAT a shock that was! I was devestaded) so that pretty much ended our romance, but you think there would be some sort of conversations with Hawks remaining companions about her emotional well-being after killing the love of her life, or how she felt betrayed.... something like that... where is the closure??

I also would pay $$ for some type of DLC or patch or update in order to get more romance and bedroom scene content in DA2 ( I play on PS3 so I'm not sure how that would work) .

All that being said, I really do love DA2... it just could be so much more if Bioware would listen to the payers and then apply what they have heard to the next DA game.

This! My Hawke is in love with Fenris and it would be so rewarding to share some tender moments with him every now and then or just chat a bit. I re-load all Fenris romance scenes every day just to watch those few precious moments but they are so short... a bit more touching and passion and conversation would be so great!

Good point as I wondering that myself. Especially now that I am playing a mage, hmm with me carrying my staff it is quite obvious of what I am. Most particularly when i am standing right in front of the templars and Knight commander. It would have made perfect sense to add something like that in.

The accosting idea you have above would make a great mod for the PC version even though us Xboxers or PS3ers would be out of luck. And of course more romancing option such as what we had in Origins being able to hug or kiss our LI anywhere in the game is definately lacking. But all in all I still am enjoying the game.

I agree with a lot of the posters on here, I think there needed to be more small things, like kissing, touching etc. throughout the game to make you feel more involved. Especially when you consider the vast scope of time thing game is supposed to cover. I am having issues coming up with the 10 years thing, as at the beginning of ACT 3 it's the year 7 save and that short act didn't cover 3 years, but I digress.

I have played 3 times and well I have romanced Isabela all three times, can't help it I like her, and she if by far the hardest to romance, because of her initial belief system. Where I love the fact I will most likely get to see her in DA 3, I would have liked to see the results of the relationship this time.

One thing I am a fan of and I haven't seen anyone mention yet is I do like the way the friendship/rivalry bar locks after you max it one way or the other. Which I feel is realistic after you reach a certain point in a relationship, and didn't require the constant gift giving to correct the yo-yo effect with some characters in the original game.

I would also pay for more romance content in a DLC.

I gotta be honest. I miss the graphic sex scenes.

It's not because I'm a pervert (though I am!), I just think Origins did them so artistically and beautiful... also my M!Hawke wanted to pound Fenris into oblivion... I mean... what.

Lol! That reminds me of my character's first kiss with him...after she slept with a male prostitute in The Pearl and he was entirely covered in blood (I don't remember what we had been fighting before).

I enjoyed the romances, well, Fenris' and Anders' at least. I haven't romanced Isabela and Merrill yet, and I'm not sure I'll be able to bring myself to do another playthrough to fully romance both of them. I agree that the romances, hell, the companion interactions in general, fell short. Even after knowing my companions for 10 years, supposedly, I didn't feel like I knew them as well as I knew my companions in Origins. Getting to listen to their stories, having them tell you about themselves and how they got to that point made me feel so close to them. And watching them change as they began to regard you as a friend or fall in love with you was wonderful, especially Morrigan and Zevran. I felt more touched when Morrigan said that I was like a sister to her, than Merrill saying that I was her first friend (or something of that sort), even though I had done all her personal quests up until that point.

Even when Anders was living with me, I felt like he was more or less just guarding the mansion instead of really living there. My brother, who romanced Merrill, said she was the same way. We thought we'd be able to get a kiss or be able to sleep with them while living with them! But no such luck. Another thing I miss from Origins.

I feel like there were supposed to be more to the romances and interactions, but they weren't implemented for whatever reasons. Time constraints probably.

Ah well, I suppose it's time to wait for improved romance mods (whenever the toolset is released) and/or DLCs, though I'm not holding my breath on that one!

Well maybe the devs didn't have time to include FOUR BAJILLION DIALOGUES. Dragon Age had, like, 10 years of development, while DA2 had...two. Limited resources and limited time means limited content.

I agree with everything has been said here.

Too few conversations with your companions in this chapter and no freedom to talk to them whenever you whish, even just to repeat the same things.

Why I can't kiss my love every time I want like it was on DA1?

I could bear with the fact that you can only talk to companions in their houses, I think that houses are just better than a camp, but the conversation possibilities are so limited and even the romances are more superficial that what we had in DAO.
