is it possible to modify a weapon skin to look like a dif kind while sitll animating like it's base form

example being making a dagger look like a 1h sword but still animates in combat like a dagger

Yes it is. That's what I've done in Mysterious Gifts, using a one-handed sword model as a dagger in game.

how? what do i need to do besides change the model of the dagger to a sword? or do i need to do it the other way around or...?

well... unless i messed something up the dagger still turn into longswords swing like swords i can't use my dagger skills etc etc. so.. uhh wtf?

So long as you use Method 1 you shouldn't have trouble.

Method 2 is much simpler and will change the actual item unless you change it to a item of the same type.

well i'm pretty sure i followed the directions correctly but my daggers (base form looks like isabela's daggers) that i changed using method 1 to look like the vigilence sword from DA 1 (which is in DA2's files oddly enuf) makes them look like said swords but in combat they act like swords not daggers.

Hmm, and you can't use dagger abilities?

I just changed a pair of daggers on a rogue I made too swords and they worked just like my daggers did. They maintained the dagger stance, dagger animations and I could use dagger abilities with them.

This was using method 1 btw.

hm... could you modify the daggers (w_dgr_002a i think) i was talking about into the longsword (w_lsw_ls09a) and upload the gda here? i can't get it to work myself

Edit: Btw there is a longsword with name w_lsw_009a and w_lsw_ls09

I edited in w_lsw_ls09.

Honestly this doesn't really require a file. I'll upload a screenshot of the modified item in item_variations.gda

This is what it should look like, be sure to save each line when you edit it and save as... and overwrite existing item_variation.gda when you save the whole file.

In my experience the only time this won't work is when you forget to save something your editing or don't save it properly.

still doesn't work it replaces the daggers w/ swords and all but it still behaves like a sword no dagger skills nothing

Hmm are you using any other mods or have you attempted to change the itm_base.gda files. I'm really at a loss here as to why your having trouble with this.

the only item related gdas in my override are the variations and properties nothin else related to em as far as i can tell.. so short of getting some1 to send me their item related gdas i think i'm screwed. cuz whenver i edit the variations to try and make the dagger's model into a sword it actually turns them into swords icon and it has the name of the weapon who's model i'm using. the game seems to classify it as a sword even tho it's ID under properties when i look at it through my save is that of dual wield (daggers) which should be ID 5200
