In the
first game, Reaver could only be gotten by making choices that would either
lead to disapproval or characters in your party fighting against or leaving you
outright. It was part of the features I loved. It was something I had hoped
would make a grandiose reappearance in this game with further enhanced dialogue
/ gameplay and larger supplemental talent trees for diverse and fun play
troughs.
Only like so many other features that could have been added it just is not
there.
I don’t know about you guys but in real life most of us pick our professions
and line of work before we grow 30 years old and considering that this game is
about Hawke and his choices as he grows from rags to riches during the time
span of 10 years as a grownup it really strikes me as odd that Bioware would
not take the opportunity to do have some (A LOT OF) Character development.
Hawke does
not really change at all from act 1 to act 3 and when things happen and people
die Hawke just keeps on existing.
Yea you can
tack on fancy titles and spray on some earned political power, but the Hawke
you started out with is the same Hawke you end the game with and outside of character
relationships Hawke has done very little with HIS time
I am
certain that his time is occupied with doing nice or funny or angry things with
everyone else, but I mean every human has the same amount of time and they
usually invest that time on improving themselves, not just others.
Thing with
Hawke is that from the start to the finish he or she is in my eyes a very
generic swordsman / rogue / mage. There is nothing that implies how Hawke hones
his skill and what those skills consists of, nor how he gets them or who
teaches him.
Shepard in
Mass effect 1 has Military training, a background story and can advance to become
better at his profession after doing some missions for Admiral Hacket and his
earth guys.
Hawke can
choose meaningfull talents like Reaver, Templar and even Bloodmage (I am sure
there is more) but all those come with A LOT OF LORE BAGGAGE that
when currently applied to Hawke does not make a whole lot of sense.
TLDR: This
very basic template is nice and all but erm, some character defining things to
do in the game would be nice.
Talent tree related quests please, i know you can do them.
