Obviously Flemeth is not just a mage. She didn't put a specialization point in "Dragon." She's either an old god or some rough equivalent. Her power transcends the pitiful limits of Blood Magic.

She is the very old and very powerful Witch of the Wilds.
I wouldn't suggest attempting such a shapeshift until you've eaten nothing but wheaties and spinach for a couple hundred years.
I believe Morrign points out in Origins that she is neither blood mage, abomination, and possibly not human at all. /shrug

Wouldn't it be interesting if she actually IS a dragon, and she learned how to shapeshift into a human?

Hmm, maybe she's an Old God who decided to abadon her kin??

I disagree with the Old God theory. Seems like she'd lead the darkspawn or something if she were. She seems like she'd take the chance to control the darkspawn and make her own country or something if she could. She had a hard enough time surviving Morrigan you'd think she'd want to have spare bodies in case someone like Morrigan tries to betray her.

I would man-squee from the sheer epicness of that revelation...

If she isn't a dragon... then her stylist certainly is.

Maybe Flemeth is the result of what Morrigan's trying to accomplish now: A Grey Warden's child infused with the essence of an Old God.

I believe Morrigan did that because she thinks its the only way for someone to be able to truely beat Flemeth. Meaning that you need such a ridiculous amount of power just to stand a chance agaisnt her true self.

And yes i believe she is probably the Dread Wolf too.

Then why call her ashrabellanar instead of the dread wolfs name?

I don't necessarily even buy what I said, I'm just brainstorming.  Personally, I feel like this is one of those Lost situations, where no one has really sat down and fully fleshed out exactly what Flemeth is.  Probably just keeping her as an ace in the hole for future plot devices.

Flemeth is actually responsible for the whole Dragon Age.

In THE STOLEN THRONE, she saves the teenage Maric and Loghain and sends them on their way to eventually recapture the throne and take Ferelden back from the Orlaisians.

In ORIGINS, she saves the Warden and Alastair from Ostagar, leading to the Warden ending the Blight before it barely began and the crowning of a new ruler of Ostagar.

In DRAGON AGE 2, she saves Hawke so that Hawke will end up making the decision that breaks the Chantry and its control of mages.

All through a minimal effort on her part. Pretty expert trolling for the long game she's playing.

God I hope not,

On some level I almost wish they would rewrite the the two games into one giant intertwined game Verric was telling that had like 10 chapters and we could see the changes as they happened and the ramifications that they had, video gaming's first epic if you will

That way they could reconcile all the continuity issues were having and use the new combat system that is so beautiful
