Getting owned regardless of my party. This is the first time I had to bacm the difficulty down to normal. Those shades and rage demons just rip up my mages and varric!
Hybris hardest fight so far, for me, playing on hard.

Use more warriors in your party and summon dog a lot as Rage Demon assassination bait.

Yeah, it seems like warriors just aren't hurting him quick enough. I have Varric running around focusing on shades as they appear. Got overwhelmed after a while. I have cold elemental weapons to counteract rage demons.
Finally able to blow it up on Normal. Maybe Fenris would. Fare better in crowd control.

On that note...the High Dragon was easy for me on Hard.

I've tried Fenris, Aveline and Merrill on him on Hard, and I just get owned every time. Have given him up for now.

I atually forgot to summon dog now that I think about it, I usually set it to tactics so he probably eventually found his way in when hawke had a moment. It was fairly easy once I figured it out. On hard difficulty by the way, it took me 3/4 tries.
I had Fenris hold all of his aggro and obviously got everyone out of the was when he does his AOE Prison thing. Other than that I left Fenris to do his thing and just healed him when necessary.
I was a DW rogue, I had Ander's Healing and me and Varric left Hybris alone and took on all the shades and rage demons the second they spawned. If you don't kill them fast they overwhelm you bad.
Assasinate, Twin Fangs and Archers lance were very usefull in thinning their numbers.
By the time all the demons were gone Fenris had wittles hybris down to about 30-40%. I was actually pretty impressed by that.
Oddly, I found the Revenants earlier in the quest more difficult.

Yeah I am on this fight now with Hawke (2H warrior tanking), Anders (healing), Merril (DPS/Debuff/Controller), Varric (DPS/Debuffer)... and I am paused right now, probably about to wipe with him having a sliver of health left... omg this fight is ridiculous lol, but super fun.
Hardest fight for me so far... wow.... already did the High Dragon and the secret demon guy from destroying the books.
EDIT: 3rd times a charm, micromanaged a lot better this time, and got him. Still hardest fight I've done far, High Dragon only took 2 times because I crashed the first time after the 3rd landing heh

They're raising the dead! They must truly be desperate.
I'm guessing you didn't fight Xenebeck yet? Anyway Hybris is not that hard actually, just don't focus on him, but on the things he summons, first. And avoid the vortexes he casts if you don't have dispel. And the rushes. But I don't have to tell you this, I think

if they eat your party, why not focus on demons>abominations>whatever undead else spawn
also
i did that on nm, no sweat at all, just micromanage the party out of his crushing prison,
and - crushing prison had a plus - try baiting those things into it. i think on my playthrough hybris did more damage to them than my parrty, they just constantly sat in there chillin' while i was killing them at range

Xenebeck was cake... dunno why Hybris was so much harder... I think it was mainly just with him charging and doing his green fire crap, on top of my party that I didn't see the crushing prison he was putting down.
Really, once I actually micromanaged the AI better about getting out of crushing prison is was way easier.
I was only doing this on hard though, gonna do a NM playthrough soon. I will say though near the end of the game, Hawke becomes way too powerful and everything was really easy on hard.

Hybris is so booring ... he does little damage to aveline but when i tanked him with my mage tank Fenris (100% fire / spirit res ) he does no damage! Over whole fight fenris maybe lost one pool worht of hp and i belive with nature immunity he would do no damage at all.

I have found the best way to deal with the Hybris encounter is bursting his ass hard so you dont have to deal with as many ads.

It's possible that the Hybris fight is easier on Nightmare.
If a melee character has the pride demon's aggro, it will summon that AoE force field around itself and -conveniently for you- trap itself. (To explain a bit more clearly, say you Aveline as a tank. Just run up to the demon and Taunt, then when he casts that big circle around you move away.)
So basically you just fight those rage demons and shades till they stop spawning while the pride demon is just standing there like an idiot trapping itself over and over again. After all the spawns are done you can focus and kill the idiot =)
Also have Merill or Anders "Dispel Magic", so you can dispel the green aoe nature damage thingy it casts on itself. Hope this helps.
Edit: It could be the same way in lower difficulties but I believe I never fought Hybris in any difficulty except nightmare. The reason I believe its easier on nightmare is I think Friendly Fire works both ways? It could be because I kept dispelling his self-buffs as well. Oh well there it is anyway

Ive beat Hybris on hard and nightmare both, and they were both quite easy if you just avoid the AOE's
It was xenenbeck (is that the name) that gave me nightmares until i respecced

I had Anders and Merrill with me, both had Petrify, Crushing Prison and Tempest. Keep big bugger under Petrify lot of the time and cast two Tempest on adds. Fenris was also helpful with adds.
No point messing with Aveline, fight takes way too long that way.

I took Varric as he can DPS the demons solo and Anders for healing.
Aveline can basically tank everyhthing as the aoe spell it does will also damage them:happy:

Dunno what you are doing, but I find hybris extremely easly. Xenebeck I find impossible unless I pull aggro.

Hybris was really tough for me, too. Finally beat it on Nightmare this afternoon! For me, the optimum strategy turned out to be taking out his friends as soon as they appeared. Before I decided to tackle things that way I spent way too much time getting zerged.
It shoudn't be easier on Nightmare, as friendly fire is always on for enemies. The Shades and Rage Demons will get stuck just as easily on Casual as they will on Nightmare.
