didnt see it mentioned anywhere, but abominations do not appear to be weak or immune to any elements

Slaver Mage at the end of the Danzig fight is immune to spirit, does not appear to have a weakness.

Danzig is weak to spirit, no immunities or other weaknesses

I just recently noticed something startling as well; on Nightmare, physical melee weapons suck something fierce compared to elemental  melee weapons.  A physical weapon like Aurvar's Prize (33 physical) does PITIFUL damage against any Warrior type enemy due to armor, and something like Sataareth blows it out of the water (except vs fire immunes of course).  I had it sitting in my bag for a while and decided to see what the damage was like before selling it and buying a better weapon.  It was doing literally 50% more on average.

This should be true of most elemental weapons compared to similar (but higher) physical weapons across the board.  So it wouldn't hurt to simply carry around two weapons.  One that you'll be using most of the time and the other (physical) to go against immunes.  Unless of course you simply want to carry around even more weapons and use those that are really good against specific enemies.
[/quote]

This is really good advice.  Early in the game Nightmare mode is tough because your weapon's physical damage potential just can't eclipse enemy armor enough to do much damage.  I play a vanguard build and at later stages, this doesn't matter as much because my specials put out SO MUCH damage that even halved or quartered the damage output is still overwhelming.  That said, I just started using a spirit-based 2h sword that I can already tell will spill templar blood.

You're also right about chain lightning.  If I rush in and get a crowd of enemies staggered with a few hits, Merrill tosses out chain lightning and just VAPORIZES them, especially if they are weak vs. lightning.  Like spiders.  Who are highly resistant to physical damage in nightmare mode for some reason.  I was fighting three of those nasty poisonous/wasp spiders the other day, which is generally a long fight in nightmare mode, and Merrill evaporated them from 90% health to dead in a single hit after they were staggered.

Anyway, I wonder if there's information out there about resistance to physical damage in nightmare mode for each of these enemy categories.

Have a question. Does an immunity to an element change to a normal resistance on hard, or is there such a thing as a high resistance?

I think the immunities are absolute (either 0 or 1), and exclusive to NM. There is no such thing as high resistance on Hard. Then again, I play only NM, so I may be totally wrong.

Danzig is weak to Fenris, so not really a problem.  Have Fenris in the group when you fight them and he can kill Danzig before the real fight begins.

so there is no half or low resistance in DA2? Basically you either deal your normal dmg, 0 or 2x your dmg correct?

What I would like to know is if elemental weeknesses are turned on in lower-than-Nightmare difficulties.  Does a cold-based staff do any extra damage to a dragon in Normal?

elemental resistance table in picture format for easy printing/reference while you're playing.  I use it to reference for my mages and elemental dmg maximization.

Because I made this in excel and had to export -> pdf -> jpg.  The picture needs to be resized to print. Use print preview and size adjustments to print straight from the webpage... I would recommend copying and using photo software to print- makes it much easier.

Have they changed things in the patch? It seems like a lot more humans than just raiders are immune to nature, and the Varterral is immune to fire.

The Varterral is also vulnerable to nature damage. I'm guessing it has the Dragon subtype or something.

This is all based on the second time you fight the Varterral.

Late edit: figured I'd upload a video to show.

It would be also be usefull to know what kind of damage types enemies does, so could design also corrrect resistances for characters.

As for enemy resistances. If you have electrical and cold weapons, those can be used without immunity to everyting.

Other enemy "weakness" what Cold and Electricity doesn't cover are:

Fire: Kirkwall types and Tevinter
Nature: Merecenary types and (Darkspawn)
Spirit: Mages and (Darkspawn)

Other unique weakness, what other elements doesn't cover are:

Electricity: Raider types, Dalish and Spiders types.
Cold: Carta types, Dragons, Mabari, Rage demon,  Street tugs

I just went through the mini-gauntlet for when you first go to the Wounded Coast, and the mages there were Spirit immune. I was trying to smack them around with the Edge of Night to find that lo! and behold, immune to my attacks. So my initial hunch of Mages being Spirit immune is likely true, meaning the OSG is actually wrong...uh oh...

Noticed that most humanoids are immune to the fire damage dealing bow from the item pack, atleast in act 1, that includes guards, thugs, all the quinari on the wounded coast etc.

Maybe its a bug with the bow..

Certain humanoids, i.e. thugs are immune to fire and weak to cold.  Qunari are immune to both Fire and Electric.  Neither are bugs.

If mercenaries are immune to fire, then there's a problem, but I don't think I've ever seen it happen to me.

Abominations are Shade/Demon types, so they're immune to spirit but weak to electric.

How does physical damage / resistance fit in here? Can it be compared?
Nice chart btw :)
