I liked this thread.

All those little things that annoyed me at the time that i quickly forgot about again, so i couldn't whinge about them, all nicely typed out for me.

I thought my female Hawke walked like the top half was going up and down and the lower half was going left to right ^_^

To add, i thought it was annoying that i couldn't take my companions clothes off like i could in Origins. Just another one of those needless limitations... sure it's juvenile of me, but i want it back :(

Some very valid points actually. I originally laughed at the title of the thread.

Enemy mages are ridiculously overpowered, it was odd that at some times I ran into battle and lost in 3 seconds just to learn the lesson that there is a mage there and my rogue must run straight to them and use assasinate which was pointless. Why aren't my mages that good? It made me feel weak.

7 is valid, sometimes companions like to go for a leisurely stroll in combat, 11 very bad. 20 and 21 also good points.

I also hate how knockbacks cancel orders and I have to stand there giving the order 10 times before Anders finally casts mind blast without getting hit.

I also found the unlimited knockdowns on some enemies annoying because it essentially takes that charecter out of the battle and you have no choice in the matter as they always knock you down before anything can be done about it. Kind of like Ogres in Origins but worse.

To add another point, why in a party based game are you forced to solo a difficult boss in the Aishok. They say that playing on hard or nightmare you have to play all 4 charecters effectively and then take 3 of them away. I despised that battle.

Definately some issues that could be improved but overall I had a very good time playing the game except when these issues were screwing me.

Bow and arrow is effective at taking down single or multiple targets in the same timeframe from a distance.  What exactly makes dual wield any better at avoiding damage? Archer does that by constantly causing knockback and knockdown and felling foes before they can reach him., if not 1-shoting them outright with auto-attack.
We would need to go into statistical anaylasis to prove points, I suppose. It seems to me that damage output in general is higher target per target than bow, and vs. bosses the archer is much weaker as it's primary side effects such as knockback become useless (whilst dual wield still allows for evasive action, higher crits and damage chains).
Darkhour wrote...
The problem is when the mage is not there in the beginning but magically appears out of thin air somewhere across the field (unbeknowst to you) and fires off an AOE while your occupied with other enemies.
Dispel magic immediately stops whatever ability is going on within its area, offensive AOE or staus effects on characters (and at it's second level, even heals party members). Usually there's at least one mage in your party at a time, so it should go more like this (if you've sunk the single necessary skill point into it):

"We're winning, guys!! Press fowar.... Aghhh" (1s)
"Everyones hitpoints are taking a **** dive!!!" (2s)
*PAUSE THE GAME*
"Must be a mage! Cast dispel magic!" (3s)
"- mage is stopped, AOE is gone, effects are gone, party is partially healed (if 2nd level) -" (4s)

I haven't had a problem with mages, only without dispel magic was there any trouble at all (and even then, easy enough to pause and target mages).

You'll typically be dead before then.

Fighting other foes: Health 80%
1sec - Mage casts AOE: Health drops to 50% (WTF moment)
2sec - Pause to see what's going on: Health 30% (mages10%)
3sec - Unpause, Mages die before they can do anything because they have low hps. (Sorry, no Dispell even if I had it)

Best case scenario:
4sec - Melee got out of AOE range but at 10% health and every foe in the encounter focusing solely on them they are ****ed even if they manage to get a potion off befor the other 10 mobs finish them off. And that's assuming that the cheap knockback doesn't prevent them from doing anything so that they could drink a potion.

But I think you miss the point.

If I know to kill the mage and by doing so the fight is rendered easy, Then there was never any difficulty. Just cheapness. I should not need to know what's coming in order to win a fight. A fight should not be simplified into "kill the mage fast = win".

Which reminds me.

#29 Ridiculous knockbacks for enemy auto-attack.

I pick up Sebastian and then destory a blood magic book in the chantry. 6 abominations and a desire demon appear vs Hawke, Sebastian and dog. I beat them, but still... the knockback is utterly ridiculous. Every auto-attack they perfrom makes Hawke stand on his tippy-toes and stumble backward (looks like he's in a DA:O crushing prison), then after that he stumbles back with torso leaning forward as if he got punched in the chest. So that's practically a 5s stun for EVERY auto-attack. Good thing all you have to do is run around to avoid damage.

#30 Aliies getting in the way of targeting

So on the rare chance that I have a tank character with me and decide to tank with said tank, and the tank has all the enemies surrounding them, it becomes difficult to properly target the center of the crowd for AOE because... well, the tank is at the center and you can't make the area they're in the center. Definitely need that "target envoronment" toggle.

Enemies teleporting into battle was something of an annoyance. I enjoy the challenge that it presents ... I just wish that there was a more realistic way of implementing that. I'd prefer to see enemies materialize in front of doorways or windows painted into the environment than simply from the corner of the room. It's a rather small difference that I think wouldn't take away too much from immersion as we could explain that they were entering through what could actually be used as an entrance. I'm not even opposed to enemies running around corners in the environment as if they were running the ring of steel and the cries of slaughtered comrades.

I agree with a lot of the issues raised here.  DA2 wasn't simply an overhaul of Origins.  It cut out so much content.  Not that I didn't find some enjoyment in DA2 and thought it had a better artstyle (apart from the Darkspawn whose look is set on 'silly').  It feels like there is less content in general than there was in Origins.

Not only are the races cut down for the player, but the classes are too, the weapons are needlessly restricted (to the point that if you don't have Sebastian or aren't a rogue that uses bows then they are useless) and though the wheel may be a nice improvement on the surface there doesn't even seem to be a third of the dialogue we had in Origins.

One thing I would really love would be individual holds for seperate companions. Particularly in fights like the Broodmommy from Origins, Wynne kept charging forward into the slappy arms, and I had to keep pulling her back.

30.There is so much equipment you can't use anymore. Why keep throwing heavy armor and mage robes at a rogue, when all he can do is trash it?

One thing on top of all the others that I agree with is the NPC's (and specifically templar's) complete inability to spot mages. My first time through I played as a Mage Hawke, I was completing the quest to find out what is happening to the templar recruits, I help Cullen in the fight and at the end he doesn't even make mention of the fireballs raining down from the sky or the balls of ice flying around. This isn't even a unique cash, it happens all the time.

It is even in the first act, before Hawke has any kind of "power" to keep the templar's at bay. Every time it happens it completely pulls me out of the game.

There is a few other things I could add to the list but I can't think of them at the moment.

For me, Isabela is fine as a duel weild rogue. She does great 1 vs 1 damage a makes a great dmg tank with her special tree that Hawke doesn't have. Companion trees are better than whatever tree it takes the place of so, no, it's not a fair trade. It's dual wield Hawke who sucks ass

#31 . I wish you could learn companion skills like ME2 (Bioware, if you're going to ME2 the game - ME2 THE GOD DAMNED GAME!!!).

Although his damage is equal, the companions (Sebastian and Varric) have more (*cough better) archery talents in their special tree.

Cullen: Why does your sister wear robes everywhere and have a mage staff?

Hawke: Um, .... *come on, Hawke. Think of something witty to say*

Random guy: Yeah, I knew she was a mage at first sight. I just figured it was none of my business. Maybe she had some kinda Circle day pass.

Random girl: Yal talkin bout that obvious mage girl over there.

Old man: Obvious mage is obvious.

Young Elf: Oh, you mean Bethany the Apostate? That's we call her in the Alienage.

Dwarf merchant: I would have reported her to the templars, but I figured there was no way an apostate mage would so be obvious about it. Wow, so she actually is an apostate? Hiding in plain sight... nice.

Hawke: Oh, ****! A bunch of Shades just showed up!!! Damn it!! Evil bloodmage at 10 o'clock!! Bandits jumping off the roof. Everybody concentrate on them.

Crowd: I don't see any monsters, but go ahead a kill them. We'll just stand around like nothing is happening.

Cullen: Shut up, all of you. Nobody is THAT stupid!! I refuse to believe that an apostate has avoided the circle for this long by being so utterly obvious. It's clearly just a fashion choice. I was just making conversation.

Hawke: ...hehe, yeah... heh, that would be really... stupid hehe.... *sigh*

I agree with the OP on almost everything he said. One thing he didn't mention is the trap situation when you're playing rogue. My rogue yells "trap" one microsecond before she steps in it, whereas in Origins, you at least had time to see them before you set them off.

It might be our roblem that the game doesnt work on PC but hell if it is our problem that we play on PC. If BioWare/EA realease a game on all platforms I sure as hell expect them to work equally well on all platforms.

This.

What're the problems you suffer from on this list, Talladarr?

Okay, so  Iesperience a little more than 2-3, but it's just htat osme I don't consiter problems. I'll go throug hthe entire list.
(I appologize if my spelling isnt the best, for whatever reaso nthe auto-sense incorrect spelling isn't working here for firefox)

1. No second weapon set.
True, I cant set secondary weapons, but I have absolutely no down time, mayne a 1/4 second if I'm unluckyilly trying to change weapons when I started a skill, but I just stop telling it to move, then move again and I'm moving, no problem at all.

2. Companions horrible AOE aim.
I find that setting them as a damager and stickign with the tacktic sets that come with, albeit I add a slot for self healing. I notice that all my AoE characters(Especually Bethany during the first act) have excilent aim with AoEs and they're all dead fairly quickly. It actually made the game TOO easy, I had to up the difficulty.

3. Why no “look at everything” option in merchant window. Why take something out?
I'm sorry? I remember NO "Look at everything" option  in Origins and Awakening, and don't tell me there is, I was just playing Origins earlier today.

4.
Why can’t we assign some stat points and complete the level upgrade
later, instead of all or nothing? Again, why add limitations that we’re
there before?
Umm, for the record, they HAVE improved the leveling system now, you can now add AP(Atribute points) and SP(Skill/spell points) separately, in O/A you had to add them bot hat once or nothgi nat all, I'd cal lthat an improvement.

5. Why can’t I actually make the party HOLD.
Now they just follow at a relatively close distance like creepy stalkers.  Again, why take something out?
That must just be a glitch for the comp or whatever, because the Hold command works perfectly on the PS3 version.

6. During conversations the questioning lines of dialog don’t always go with the dialog that completes the conversation.
Hate to burst your bubble, but that's how it was in Origins, no change there.

7. Cannot equip companions at homes.  Cannot compare weapons with non-present companions at shops.
Okay, THIS I will agree with, I can't stand it and it DOES drive me nuts, but I think the reason is because if you have a main party you always use then you don't need to equip anyone else, the final fight in DA2 is different in that way from DA:O's, the same goes for Awakening

8. Nonsense battles. Why does everyone stop everything to attack Hawke?

Umm, last I checked weren't the battles even MORE random in origins? Like, for example, you randomly run across 3 Blightwolves, a Bareskarn and a Drake. Or the time when you run across all those wolves that magicly don't trip the traps ment for them, but then you trip them? Those seemd pretty random to me.

9. class imbalance.
Umm, last I checked the Dualers had some SERIOUSLY massive damage. Before I even finished act 1 I was doing over 1k while everone else was going ~300-500, so dont' start spouting anythign off about that, and I havn't noticed that same kind of damage on an archer.

10. Journal
ROFL are you seriously saying the one in Origins was better?! I will take DA2's journal over DA:O/A's ANY DAY.

11. Unresponsive combat
I havn't experienced this issue even in the slightest.

12. Enemies triggering combat mode even though they are nowhere near your location.
This is an "ehh" problem, Yes combat mode might be a little annoying, but at least in DA2 you run FASTER in combat than outside it, so what's the big deal?

13. Pointless items (class specific items)
This kinda got on my nearves too. What the hell is all this warrior or rogue armor doing everywhere when I'm a mage and no one else can equip it??? And they HAD junk items in Origins, it was in your "Other" tab.

14. Non-named items could use a little more descriptive names.
I can sympathize, I do miss being able to look at the item without going int omy inventory, but it's not really a big deal o.o

15. Knockback cancelling orders.
Again, never really encountered this either.

16.  Stop with the undead lying on the ground.
Umm, last I checked MOST of the undead in DA2 came OUT OF THE GROUND, ie., NOT laying on the ground. Just sayin'.

17. NPC mages being able to 1-hit everyone in your party.
Okay, I will admit, Leech was a PAIN IN THE ASS on anything higher than Normal, but I havn't noticed any mage teleporting. Sometimes they're on a ledge you can't see up onto, but never any teleporting. And the enemy AoE's arn't THAT powerful, or THAT horribly difficult to get out of. But I will admit, this annoyed me a little.

18. Why is there a cool down timer on the dog.
Okay, I'll agree here, I thought it was just stupid.

19. Necessity of captioning.
Maybe your sound settings are low? I hear everythign just fine, except for some of the stuff dandome people say as yo upass them.

20. Wasted talents and stamina
Again, must be a computer issue, never had that on PS3. If you got knocked down it just didn't do the spell and didn't take the manna/stamina.

21. It gets
annoying when ranged companions run right up to a melee opponent to
attack even though they have a clear line of sight.
Only had this trouble once, and that was when the enemy was around a corner, and going toward the corner was the shortest distance to get in range.

22. NPCs magically knowing what I’m doing
This annoyed me a little too. I solved the issue by freezing them first, using walking bomb on them, then pummling them untill the suddenly explode and take 20 people down with them =3

23. The camera.
And Idk why this would annoy the PC users, I mean, we can't do that on any other system, and you couldn't do it in Origins or Awakening, so why would you expect it here?

24. Taunt needs to have a 100% chance to draw aggro. With that recast
times in this game a failed taunt is a failed tank. Not that you need a
tank... it's just the principle of the matter.
Umm, well, once yo ugetthe cool down bonus I THINK(don't quote me on this) that Taunt has only a 15sec cooldown, and in most fights in this game, if it's not over in 15 seconds, the fight is either insane, a boss fight, or you're doing it wrong.

At least he noticed it before he set it off.  Probably 60% of the time my rogues never even see the traps, even with 40+ cunning, until long after they've been sprung.

Other than that, and not to flog this horse's corpse too much more, but on the combat side it isn't just the targeting that's a pain, but the overall responsiveness.  Trying to time out anything is a real challenge during combat, and I can't count the number of times I couldn't get a vital spell (cure, paralysis, whatever) off because my mage was too busy twirling his staff over his head like a drum major.  By the time all the flourishes were done and he was settled back into a ready stance somebody was dead.

I found an interesting alternative to the mage/Aoe problem.  Healing rates from the Spirit Healer Healing Aura (OR whatever the name of the base spell for the SH is) were higher than I expected.  Always upgrading the SH tree first, and it quickly got to the point that my party members only perished when they got too far away (8m max distance).  I simply kept it up, and used a staff for the rest, typically electric-based.

True, you can't cast offensive-based spells, but so what?  I went thru all but the very final battles (Orsino and Merideth) with these non healing spells:  Arcane Shield (always active, and upgraded for Elemental resist), Mind Blast, Glyph of Paralysis (later upgraded) and Glyph of Repulsion.
I added Force Mage and one spell from that tree (the Telepathic Explosin one).

I agree with the Hold Command issue.  FAR too short.

I don't know, maybe it was intentional to keep people from stealthing through the dungeon or something?

It's really annoying when your allies walk into those blasted environmental traps. "Hmm, a buzz saw, that looks inviting, Hawke." "No, stay back!" "I...I can't! I just love you too much! *Bzzzt* Oh, god, it hurts, give me your last injury kit!"

9. class imbalance.
Normally this isn’t an issue in a single player game and maybe it isn’t here either depending on your point of view, but duel wield rogue is pointless. Not only does archery do more damage, but it does it at range, has more AOE talents and no close range penalty. When the enemies do close the archery can fight at melee range just as well as a duel wielder.

There is no separate DW vs. Archer rogue class. All rogues can use daggers and bows and can put points into one or the other or both skills, or even skip both trees entirely and focus on other stuff. I'm enjoying the hell out of playing a rogue with points in both DW and Archery.

As a rogue, you have high ranged dps and ranged Assasinate open to you. Also very high melee dps and evasion abilities.

Daggers Assassinate seems to do base damage almost as high or higher than when equipped with a bow, even if the bow has far higher damage. In addition the daggers Assassinate hits twice. I took 80% of the health of the Mature Dragon in Act 2 using daggers Assassinate when one of my mages made him BRITTLE.

The problem I have is that you can't unassign the last point you put in like in Origins. If you hit "B" you remove ALL of the points you put in instead of the last point you assigned. It's a simple change, but annoying to say the least, especially when you have a lot of point and make a mistake, then have to reassign ALL the points again. They really could have improved that or just kept it the way it was in the last game.

This. For Qunari mages there is an obvious sound when they teleport that is a good warning. Haven't noticed this for the other mages.

27. Tab not allowing us to see enemies.

Only way to see what's going on on the battlefield is to physically place the cursor on an enemy. So new foes go unnoticed or hide behind others.

WTF? Tab works perfectly for me in showing healthbars and all interactive objects.
