So, a friend and I always discuss which of the mythical Dragon Age lands correspond to real world lands, here is a list we've compiled thus far:
1. Orlais - Pretty obvious, France. The main give away is their outrageous accents.
2. Tevinter - We say Rome, mostly because of how they rose and fell, and the magisters resemble the Roman senate in away. While it's not a perfect match, there are quite a few similarities.
3. The Free Marches - the UK. Since we believe that Tevinter is Rome, Kirkwall was a far outpost of Tevinter, it resembles England and with the coalition of Starkhaven and another nation I forget, it resembles England, Wales and Scotland.
4. Fereldan - My friend says it's most like England, but I would argue it's more like Germany.
5. Par Vollen - Japan. I don't know much about this, but the way the Qunari act seems to resemble an Imperial Japanese manner.
What's everyone else's thoughts on the regions, or other places I haven't mentioned?
Which land is which?

Ferelden is very similar to England. I am curious about your reasoning behind the Germany reference.
Also not sure about Tevinter being Rome. As you said, not a perfect match. Interesting notion though, but not for the rising or falling.
Can't forget Antiva by the way. Which is either Italy or Spain.
