I'm not entirely sure but I guess the reason why I like Bethany so much is because a long time ago, before Dragon Age II was officially announced, I was on IMDb and somebody asked me what type of female companion I wanted for the future Dragon Age sequel and I said that I wanted a chick who was a cross between Morrigan and Leliana. And while I seriously doubt that BioWare monitors IMDb message boards, it was nice to see a character who was essentially an Apostate like Morrigan but she grew up in completely different surroundings. And so, she's sort of like Morrigan but she's Morrigan-Lite, meaning she sort of looks like her and she has led a tough life as an Apostate hiding from the Templars, but she has a bit of a warm, kind-hearted, sweet-natured, personality like Leliana. It's a shame that when I finally get to play Dragon Age 2, I'm gonna have to be Garrett Hawke, because I don't really wanna be him.

Because Bethany really is, the perfect blend of Betty and Veronica from Archie comics, but if I'm Garrett Hawke, I'm stuck wasting my affections on some bland looking Pixie chick, and on a pirate **** who reminds me way too much of Jack Sparrow. And I'm not THAT big of a Jack Sparrow fan. (Now I know that Bethany is Hawke's sister because that's been pointed way too many times. But that's the point. Why do I gotta be Hawke?) Can't I go back to being a mute, lifeless looking, Grey Warden? Because I like that a milion times more. It's good to be the King Warden but it sucks Hawke. (As far as his straight heterosexual love life goes.)  And unless Bioware releases some official romantic DLCs involving some new companion women who happen to get integrated into the main story upon downloading, my opinion is never gonna change.

She does seem like a more interesting character than Garret Hawke, or whatever the players name their PC. If DA 3 has to center around a pre-defined singular character, and it has to be a Hawke, let's hope it's Bethany.

Granted, I'm all for getting the player freedoms from Origins back in regards to character creation.

No kidding. It's a bit of a tease really. Somebody's gonna disagree with me, but I don't care because to me Bethany's hotter than Isabela and Merril combined!!

The only thing I didn't like about Bethany is her VO. Too bad, I thought the voice actors in DA2 did a fine job overall, except for Bethany's.

Well, she's not YOUR sister... she's Hawke's sister, so oggle that forbidden fruit to your heart's content.

Funny. I feel the same way about Isabela once I'm able to get past her feminine Jack Sparrow-like face. I liked Mika Simmons "naughty" Isabela voice a hell of a lot more. I definitely wiished they could've done a switch-a-roo, where Mika continued to voice Isabela but Victoria Kruger became the new Anora.

While I stop lusting after Bethany after playing through the game as Hawke because I really enjoy playing the big brother, I'd really like to see her fleshed out more in future installment. Hopefully we'll get a new protagonist in DA3 and will be able to romance Bethany!

I know that's why I'm not looking forward to playing the new game as Hawke. I'd much rather be the original Grey Warden protagonist again and cheat on my Ferelden Queen with a young Apostate beauty from Lothering. But that's just me. I'm probably the only one who likes Bethany not only because her of aesthetic beauty, but because to me she's the perfect blend of Betty and Veronica from Archie Comics.

It really is a shame for me, I really want to romance someone in all playthroughs because it thickens the plot somewhat and a bit more personal interaction between me and the characters, and since I will never play as a female hawke, I am stuck with Isabela and Merril. It won't be a problem if I actually likes the character but I just don't. Isablela is still a **** no matter how you put it, and the elves in this game are just, weird. Bethany really was the only one I "fancy" but she is my sister, ya wonderful.

Wait until you bring Isabella to meet Zevran and watch them go for a "quickie" together.

I was disappointed with 1. Bethany has no personal skill tree and 2. You only get her for 1/3rd of the game and 3. You get no interaction with her for the remaining 2/3rd of the game

That's because BioWare made Garrett Hawke into such a Doom Magnet.

http://tvtropes.org/...Main/DoomMagnet

Anyway I really wish there was a part of Dragon Age 2 where I can kill or betray Isabela because I really don't like her. Maybe they'll come out with a DLC where I can kill the pirate ****, just like they came out with a DLC where you can stab Morrigan....But that's probably just wishful thinking on my part. I don't think Bioware cares about letting the Isabela haters have their virtual murder/betrayal.

That's an understatement, makes wonder if Hawke should have kept the rabbits foot.

I've seen these threads a lot, and something occurred to me. Since Bioware has her facial structure change slightly with your own choices, and we tend to create (more or less) attractive characters for ourselves, maybe the "female version" of what you've created (similar cheek bones etc) has a subconscious appeal? =P

I remember reading that this is compensated for in real life by simply growing up with the person. If I understood correctly, this is supposed to prevent attraction and thus avoid evolutionary backsteps through mutated degenerative DNA =P

Since this has not been implemented in Dragon Age 2, Bethany and I are naming our first child "Sandal". ;)

In a way i was happy for her to leave cause i thought she was the most attractive party member.
i had to remind my self i am hawk not the warden and hawk dont fancy his sister.
i think it would have been great if she was just a child hood sweet heart
because she dose not look like hawk/carver anways
but owell my hawk mind is twisted lol i should of let her die by the taint so i wont be tempted to make a move on her lol

I've never had a sister who looks like Bethany. So, no, I don't have sister issues.

Having a sister as a companion was a bad design choice IMO. It just really struck home how you didn't feel one with Hawke at all. With the Warden, all of the characters you met were new (other than the Origin stories) and so your relationships with them were real. With Bethany, you're not reacting as you naturally would - would you really bring your sister with you into the brothel? I fail to see why Bethany couldn't be a friend who escapes with you from Lothering. That way she could be a LI, etc, etc...

I couldn't agree more.
