So I just finished killing the Demon that possessed Malethari, and then proceeded to wipe out the Dalish Clan. In my journal, it says to return to Merrill's house in the Lowtown Alienage to speak with her. I go there... and there's no event of any sort. She just talks about her house being dirty. Glitch? Anyone know how to fix it? Thanks in advance!

I was able to get that to trigger by going out and completing some other quests and going back later. Although I have seen some other comments saying that she shattered the mirror, but that didn't happen for me. Anyone else have more info on the mirror being shattered?

Beats the hell out of me. Heck, I got the cutscene before I even started the quest. It's one of the buggiest in the game.

Yep. Since the conversation she is supposed to have after "A New Path" actually occurs before you even get the quest, it can be a little confusing.

To the OP, if you've already gotten to that point, then you have gotten as far as you are going to get with it.

I never could get Merrill's questioning beliefs either. It just sat in my active quests. :(

Somehow I've managed to get Merrill to move in with me, while she's at max rivalry. In act 2 I gave her the tool she needed to fix the mirror and she was happy, then later she went all schizo and told me i threw it away so she couldn't fix it.. then the whole romance thing went down and she moved in. So i figured, bit odd, but i'll roll with it. Now at the start of act 3, she smashes the mirror. A little bit in to act three she decides that she still has a mirror to fix (which eventually moves on to elven genocide)? I am confuse.

The Merrill quest triggers seem to be really buggy - I just had a similar experience to Atra Culpa. I had maxed out rivalry with Merrill by having her in the party when destroying the evil tomes (a good way to gain rivalry with Merrill - +10 rivalry for each book), and then refusing to give her the tool she wanted, after the keeper gave it to me.

She was furious, and visiting her at her home, she essentially threw me out. But then she came to appologize at the mansion, I gave her a couple of the romance answers, and suddenly we were in the sack.

I guess that's make-up sex for you. :o

I asked her to move in, and now in the begining of chapter 3, I first visited her at the mansion and she told me she was going to the alienage to check up on some things. I then visited her at the alienage, and.... she was crying and telling me I was right all along, and then smashed the mirror.

This, I gathered from the fact that she mentioned that she could never return to the Dalish, that they'd attack her on sight, was probably out-of-order sequence that should have happened only if I completed the quest where she tries to get the help of the demon, and managed to get out without killing the Dalish tribe.

I don't know how this'll affect the rest of the quests with Merrill. I'll try to reload an earlier save and maybe visit her at the alienage FIRST, to see if that makes a difference.

In my first playthrough, I was friendly with Merrill, and helped her all along, and ended up killing the Dalish tribe - and to my surprcice Merrill didn't really comment about it or seem bothered at all, when we got back to the city, and not at any point in the remaining game.

This is the exact thing that happened to me. First playthrough, just friendly: her quests and dialogue play out in the correct order, except I can't get her last Questioning Beliefs dialogue to trigger.

Second playthrough, romanced her: I get the Questioning Beliefs dialogue, but before I've done the quest that should precede it.

Looks like poor Merrill's messed up no matter what you do.

She shatters it if you fight her every step of the way. Like not giving her the Arulin Holm or basically just maxing her Rival bar. If you are friends with her she just sits there and cries in front of it.

Some people forget that you can romance people even if they are rivals.

But that shouldn't happen BEFORE you do the quest involving her seeking help from a demon, and ending up with the keeper dead. That's the point. This sequence is being triggered out of order.

As has probably been mentioned..

The quest is currently highly bugged. The conversation that should happen afterwards in fact happens before-hand. (And is very likely the option where you leave the Dalish alive because.. well otherwise it wouldn't make sense)

This also makes it impossible for a lot of people to start the quest to begin with and they have to manually (Myself among them) start it through the console (runscript zz_mrl_debug) but the post-quest conversation will never reappear. It's a shame, I'm just glad I did pick the option to 'spare' the Dalish and had it recorded so I could watch it again afterwards...

+1 this is exactly what happened to me too. Had her at mildly friendly, went and got rid of the demon, killed her whole clan, and then her "questioning beliefs" quest just SAT in my active list while Merrill blithered about holes in the roof every time I clicked on her.

Yeah I had the same glitches. I want to know if there is a way to have a happy ending with this quest like were you DON'T end up killing the keeper? at the most current part of the quest (on my 5th play through at the moment) She asked me to go summon the daemon with her and I told her no and she said she may have to go do it herself. So I am tempted to not go back to the dailish and see what happens. Every other play through I have gone back to them and every time keeper dies and I either slaughter the clan or talk them out of the bloody mess.

^ as far as I know, there isn't any way to save the keeper.

The game seems SO intent on having Merrill's story end in a particular way, or one of a narrow set of particular ways, that I'm wondering whether how Merrill's story played out has some major significance in DA3?
