I have approached him in several different ways with my talking. I was being just and fair in one way, and a jerk in another playthrough in the cutscene. I just don't get what I have to do.

I read on the wiki that you need to always answer truthfully. Haven't tried it yet (apparently).

Another key is to bring Fenris with you when you first meet him.. He speaks Qunari. And one of the biggest decisions is when you tell the Viscount to tell the truth about the tortured Qunari. Also, admitting to him that Isabella stole the book. I got the achievement without even realizing it.

You have to inform him when you learn his diplomats go missing and then go talk to him after and tell him who did it. When you kill the Qunari trying to take back the Sarebaas in Act 1 you tell him about that to and always pick the peaceful options when talking to him. I got his respect before he even went crazy and tries to take over.

Same here. I read about the Isabella truth option helping, but then I realized I already had the achievment. You just have to please him a set number of times.

Alright, I will take him with me when I do my next playthrough. Thank you. :)

Everytime you are givren a quest to do something regarding the Qunari, and something happens that you believe the Arishok should know about, go to him straight away before anything else. It's as simple as that really.

Think like a Qunari. What would a follower of the Qun do.

Steal all of Kirkwall's cookies and cakes?

For the good of it's slovenly children. Also, train kittens with pieces of string.

How I got the Arishok's respect:

Bring Fenris when you first meet him, use the Fenris dialogue option in the conversation.
Tell him you killed Arvarad
Tell him his delegates have gone missing before finding them
Give him back the bodies of his delegates
Tell him the truth about what happened to them (this is when I got the achievement)
Tell him Isabella stole the relic

What exactly does Fenris say during the end of Act II if you haven't gotten the respect of the Arishok? Does anyone know? I've tried NOT getting his respect and lying to him at every turn, and I can't do it. He still calls me bashalit'an after I fight his honor guards...

Just be honest with everything, even if you're afraid he might disapprove. They're such a strange people.

I got it by:

-Before searching for the missing delegates, go tell the Arishok
-After you deal with Ser Varnell, tell the Viscount not to hide the bodies
-When you confront the Arishok with Aveline, agree that the elves were justified in murdering the guard, then tell the Arishok that Isabela has the relic.

The achievement should unlock after doing those
