whats the point in releasing a trailer so late ?
Making a trailer that says "Now available" makes great sense.
I'm sure you guys/gals have your reasons, but they're lost on me. Bioware has released a trailer for ME3 far in advance. Studios release trailers for movies well in advance of the release date. The expectation of a "trailer" is that it's released "in advance" to generate interest for your product. I've seen "now in theaters" trailers, but they're preceded with pre-release trailers.
There are people who are more casual than us board-lurkers and you'd be able to grab their attention rather easily with a short flashy trailer.
[Darth Vader] Search your feelings. You know it to be true. [/Darth Vader]
Buuut I do want to say thanks for at least telling us what's going on.... soooo, Thanks!
Haha! Rocksteady released a GAMEPLAY trailer (Batman Arkham City) for a release date EXACTLY the same as ME3. That's a sign of excitment from the dev team.
All Bioware has done is release a CG teaser, just like Rocksteady did at the same event (VGA awards).
IF ME3 runs off the ME2 engine (slightly updated), the game ONLY needs to be scripted for mission events and voice overs. The alien designs are established, the combat mechanics are done, there is NOTHING else to make for ME3 that could possiblly require more time.
Now, that's not saying I wanted a ME3 gameplay trailer, no. But for a minute, 1 hour expansion DLC to NOT have a 30 second teaser/trailer a mere WEEK before release is odd.
I also find it funny that when a dev posts in a forum topic, everyone starts kissing their boots. I'm glad that Priestly responded to this topic, but it took him a LONG time to do so. Just shows you how often Bioware visits these boards for fan feedback... it makes me feel that all the times I have posted suggestions to this forum are buried and forgotten; never to be read by one of the ME3 dev team.
Why do I bother? Bioware should make the game as they intended, and not listen to "fan" recommendation.
Think about the changes they made between 1 and 2, ALL of the critic reviewers complained about the Mako; it was tossed out. ALL of the reviewers complained about the side missions; it was tossed out. Bioware didn't listen to their fans, they listened to the critics.,

I love how people who don't know how to do my job tell me how to do my job. A trailer IS meant to get you ready to do something. It is to get you ready to buy the product. Whether it comes out today or next week, it accomplishes the same thing.
An advance trailer for everyone posting in this thread is not needed. You all know about Arrival and, as long as you believe it has value and fun for your dollar, you will likely buy it. And to play Devil's Advocate a moment, if you don't like what you see in the trailer or don't see the fun/value, giving it to you today or next week makes no difference.
A trailer released on the day it is available showing how cool it is saying "now available" will drive people who do not frequent these forums or the Mass Effect website to buy it immediately (yes, because it is cool and an excellent DLC that we feel peopel will want to play).
People here are upset because you think someone promised you a trailer today (which we never did) or because you have to wait 7 days. I get that waiting sucks, but thats the way it is. I get you are disappointed, but some of the blame goes to all of you who got your hopes up.
That said, we do have some cool stuff coming between now and next Tuesday, like the live chat we're going to have with Mac Walters talking about Arrival, comic books, other cool Mass Effect discussion. Details of the chat to be sent out soon.

And I'm gonna laugh when Batman Arkham City robs Me3 blind at next years GOTY awards... or when the critics review ME3 and call it a ME 2.5 with a dissappointing ending to a initially promising franchise.

Sadly parts of the community (not all as there are reasonable, respectable people surprisingly enough) have a large chip on their shoulder. For what it's worth I can say in all respects you folks do an amazing job ( I am an accountant and currently pursing a master's degree in upper level management) despite what the naysayers drone on about.

Don't worry Chris, I have no problem with a trailer on release day. I can wait the week for the DLC and this ensures no spoilers.
I don't want "spoilers," but I wouldn't mind an appetizer of what to expect (locations, vague dialogue, action shots).

Yeah, but I felt the same way until I was exposed to almost every location in ME2 by watching all the trailers, making-of, etc. before the game came out. I missed that sense of shock when you are first in a new location that I felt in ME1. But because of the exposure during the ME2 hype, it was more like, "I remember seeing this in that trailer." Don't get me wrong, there was still a sense of atmosphere, but not a pronounced.
"Spoilers" are when the story is spoiled, so I am only extending that to places, shots, music, etc. I was only speaking for myself. Surely people got things to do (life, work, other games currently out, etc.) to keep their mind off the DLC for a week.

Spoiled? Who cares about the damn trailer. Im just angry that BW's PR department has shown how mediocre and stupid it is. Releasing the trailer the same as the DLC? When the DLC comes out I'll download it and see for myself. God'dammed amateurs.
Actually, releasing a trailer on the date of the DLC is not stupid. All you people here want a trailer earlier to satisfy your hunger for ME, but you don't need one, trailer or no trailer pretty much every single person here will undoubtedly purchase Arrival. Thus it's unnecessary.
A trailer on release date on the other hand gives a gentle nudge to those not so in tune with the goings on (there are lots of people like that) to encourage them to buy it. On that front the trailer is better suited for actual date, rather than early because if there's a trailer saying something is available right now people are more inclined to buy it the same day, whereas if there's a trailer stating a date a bit further away people are more likely to forget about it.
So yeh, BW's PR department has shown itself to be really mediocre and stupid...

Yes we all want one but we don't really need one to encourage us to buy it. A release day trailer may encourage a few new people to get it when shown on other sites but will most likely just serve as a nice reminder to fans who don't lurk here that a new dlc is available. A Release day trailer will also allow an easier schedule to the guys making the trailer, hence costing less in time and potentially money. It will also reduce the problem of people seeing a trailer finding the product not available and forgetting about it. meaning less marketing needed when it is available. With a reduced marketing budget as this will have marketing has made the smart choice.
