The Quest: Fool's Gold centers around three dwarven brothers who follow the Champions map of the Deep Roads in search of a fabled sword: Heartdrinker.
While the champion is crawling around in the Deep Roads Bartrand steals a dwarven Idol, an Idol he later tells us he sold to a woman. Shortly after we see that Knight Commander Meredith is rockin' a shiny new Greatsword, that, mind you, resembles our relic in more than a few ways.
So, I ask you: Is this coincidence or did the Champion's expedition unknowingly uncover Heartdrinker, or a piece of it, at least? Whaddya think Forum?

The idol does have the power to influence people's minds, it's plausible that it instructed Meredith to reforge it into a weapon.

As I imported from Awakening, I never got that quest.

It just occurred to me earlier today and I felt I had to share it. If only for people to tell me I'm not just digging too far into it.

The Heart Drinker was stated to have been a sword created by a smith of that tiage. So i dont believe it is. Although my thoughts are that the red lyrium in that area of the deep roads are corrupted thus why it "sings".

I think the idol is definitly a part of it, because Meredith makes reference to us knowing what it is and mentions how a Dwarf sold it her. The hilt of her sword basically looks like the relic intertwined with something else. I too have pondered if the sword was actually Heartdrinker and thus give an even more reason as to why Meredith gets so corrupted. Also leaves the question of whether the room where it was supposed to be had actually been trashed by Darkspawn or whether a group of Templars at Meredith's bequest had gone in, got the sword and trashed the joint.

You know, this got me thinking.  Yeah, the lyrium idol made Meredith all crazy.  But she didn't know that when she bought it, all she knew was it was a pure lyrium relic.  Either she wanted it for decoration or...  or...  do you think all this started because some templar just wanted to get really wasted?!

Most likely. Probably just thought "Ooh, lyrium!" and ran with it.

I was curious on this here as well. I will have to admit that her sword was cool looking and wouldn't mind  having a sword that looks that cool. Only without it taking over your mind and making you nuts.

I would dare to say the following

Vigilance
The powerfull Sword from Dragon Age awakening, crafted from Greater Warmth Balm, a Grandmaster Flame Rune, a Fresh Dragon Egg, inbounded with pure lyrium by the best smiths in the land.

At the end of the game The sword gets stolen by the Crows, and they all died under mysteriusly circumstances (Possibly the Templar comander found and slayd them.)

It is possible She inbounded the Sword with the Idol,

no, Bartrand sold the idol to meredith, if you do Varric's friendship quest you find that out, then later on you can find a little piece of the idol in another of varric's quests, you have the option to give it to varric or take it, if you give it to varric he gains speed or strength i forgot, but if you keep it you can give it to sandal for him to craft a rune out of it. I hope that answers your question
