After purchasing a new Windows 7 pc I've decided to load Mass Effect 1 onto my D drive rather than the default C:\\Program Files (x86). But after trying to start the game I'm getting an error 'A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available'.
I've checked the EA website and they've confirmed that Mass Effect 1 has been tested compatible with Windows 7 so the problem must lie with the location where I've installed the game.
What do I need to do to get the game working on my D drive? I don't want to use my C drive unless there is no other alternative as it is filling up with other games.

Mass Effect 1 will *not* start on Windows 7 unless it is patched. Please ensure you have the 1.02 patch from: http://masseffect.bi...ates/index.html
If there is still a problem, try running MassEffect.exe in Windows XP compatibility mode.
I am fairly certain you can launch ME1 from anywhere, since these days I just copy my installation around and run it as desired.

Patching to 1.02 did the trick. I had originally hoped to do this via the in-game gui but it wouldn't allow me to. Thanks for your help eshrafel.
