I've been tinkering with this for about this since Dragon Age was released..which was in November.

Here's what I've discovered.

If you have an .mrh, you can change it to a preset easily and it will look almost identical to the original. The way to do so is Export Settings==> then click true

You can also get an .mrh and make it replace NPCs. You do this by Posting to Local.

Now what you can't do is make a .mor only (without an MRH)  and make it into a .mop file. It will look nothing like the original.

In fact, making a preset from an MRH already distorts the face just a tad bit. But making a preset from a .mor (without a MRH) doesn't even make the same face at all.

The best way to test my theory. Make a face and save it. Export it as a .mor file.

Now go and find that .mor file.

Try to make a preset from it without using the MRH..mor only.

It will look nothing like the face you made. It may have the same makeup and things like that..but it's not what you made and to be honest..it will look terrible.

The way to get the presets right is to get your .mrh file and then do the presets that way. I actually had to confirm this with some folks in Bioware and pretty much there is no way to get a .mor only and make it a pure preset. The Mrh is the most important piece of the puzzle.

If I am incorrect, I would like to know the method involved.

ah I see. so he's not going to be able to use this file for a preset. thats too bad, I hate having to disappoint people. I will see if I can get the link for where that mod was listed again, and see if I can request the mrh file for it from the author then. Thanks very much for that information.

Something of a different nature... a project that I'm working on for myself. I have heard that this can be done.... I just cannot for the life of me find the file that controls this. I am working on changing the gender of some of the NPC's. Specifically, some NPC's that came in Improved Party mod. I know that for the change to work correctly, I have to change it so that it uses HM/FM EM/FM DM/DF body values. I just cant find the file I would need to edit for it to do that.

So far, all I've been able to accomplish is to throw a female head on a male body.

TypoWolf- lol we are most definitely not alone in that regard ;)

This is how I did it when the game 1st came out and it worked as far as using a toolset morph in game. I'm not sure how you would take a morph created in the game and then edit it however.

How to use a Head Morph created with the toolset for your character in your game:

This process involves editing a saved game file with the GFF editor provided in the toolset. This process is not sanctioned by BioWare and as always they cannot provide any support if you go further and screw up your save game in some way. Remember the age old mantra ‘Save often and in different save slots.’

It would be a good idea if you test this process out on a test character first to make sure it works to your satisfaction before trying it on an existing save game.

1) Create a new module ‘File’….’Manage Modules’….’New’ give the new module a name and a ‘UID’ (call it anything you like) and open that module.

2) Create your morph with the toolset morph editor.
- Save the morph with a file name that you will remember.
- Post the Morph to ‘local’ in the toolset. (Tools....Export…Post to Local)
- Exit the Toolset.

3) Start up the game.
- Create your character and just choose one of the base head morphs, don’t spend any time customizing it. (However make sure you choose the voice you want and all the other class attributes.)
- As soon as you get into the game save the game remembering what save game name you have created. (Or you can use an existing save game thus skipping the character creation step above.)
- Exit the game.

4) Open up the GFFEditor.exe (C:Program Files\\\\Dragon Age\\\\tools)
- Find your save game file and open it. (File…Open) The file extension of the file you want to open will be “.das”
(My Documents\\\\BioWare\\\\Dragon Age\\\\Characters\\\\”Character Name”\\\\Saves\\\\Slot #)
- Click on the plus sign to the left of SAVEGAME_PLAYERCHAR
- Click on the plus sign to the left of SAVEGAME_PLAYERCHAR_CHAR
- Scroll down and click on the plus sign to the left of SAVEGAME_APPEARANCE
- Enter the name of your morph file in the ‘value’ of SAVEGAME_APPEARANCE_MORPH_NAME
Important! When your morph file is saved in the toolset it attaches a two letter prefix to the front of the file name. It is the same prefix you see in the morph editor when you choose what type of base morph to make. (hf_ for human female, hm_ for human male, ef_ for elven female etc.) Thus if you gave your morph a name of ‘Fred’ after creating a human male, the name you enter will be “hm_fred” (all lowercase.)
- Move the cursor out of the ‘value’ field and click in another field, save the file in the GFF Editor and exit.

5) Start up the game and load up your save game. Your character should now have the toolset morph head that you created. It’s probably a good idea to save the game again right away in case you have to reload due to death.

Because I wanted to change the look of my PC, I actually had to download the updated toolset which took 3 hours, because my GFF editor doesn't allow me to open it either way >.<

This was a great workaround, thanks.

I might have found a work around for the shapeshifting problem in the Fade quest.  I know I can't be the first person to figure this out - it's too simple - but since someone asked...

Basically, all I did was take my .mrh file, save it as EM_CPS_P01.mrh (it was a male elf) then export it as EM
_CPS_P01.mop into the Override folder.  He came up as the preset then on in game character creation.

When I got to the various shifts in the Fade, they looked normal

This only worked with a brand new character, but it did seem to work for me on the one character I've tested so far.

I wrote down a tutorial (mostly for myself so I don't forget what to do :P ) over here if someone wants to look at pictures or the instructions I just laid out were too vauge.  http://whuffie.wordpress.com/2010/04/06/346/

(Edit: Tried all forms)

Thanks TypoWolf for the tutorial to work against that.

I just noticed this problem and was looking for a solution, unfortunately we are forced to have new saves.

Unless there is a way to "fix" this on other way.

I decided it's best to simply don't bother, since the problem is only in this quest.

Yes, it only works with a new character and new saves because you have to work with it from the very beginning. There may be another way around it, I don't know. After I figured out how to do it, then I started my new characters with the .mop files. Maybe someone will figure out a better way at some point. My Toolset knowledge is still limited.

Searched and found this fantastic thread. I've learned much that I had problems figuring out on my own. Thanks, posters :)
